I'm a Beasley fan because of an article I read about him from a former NFL player -- really talked him up about being technically sound (not so much against the run) and seeing fundamentals in him that were lacking in ALL the other OLB prospects.

Having said that, if Fowler truly is the better fit I don't think I'd let "attitude" stop us from taking him. Bowles seems to be the type of guy who can be on your side but still hold you accountable (Rex lacked the latter).

Of course I'll never know all the intimate details they discover during the draft process, but unless they find MAJOR red flags, then just go with the best player and don't look back . . .

Really I don't see anyone trading up to 6 if Cooper or White are on the board... Not with how deep this WR class is especially in the first 2 rds.... There are 6-8 WR's that can go in the 1st RD and 5 of them are locks for the 1st rd

Cooper - 1st Rd lock
White - 1st Rd lock
Parker - 1st Rd lock
Perriman - 1st Rd Lock
Strong - 1st rd Lock
DGB - 1st Rd - Likely
Coates - Is rd wild card
Dorsett - 1st Rd wild card

I don't think we can say any are first round locks except cooper and white the rest are going to be based on how the draft falls and team needs.

You think if Cooper and/or White are on the board there are no teams in the NFL, of the 31 other teams, that may want to trade up to acquire one of these 2? You think Mariota is the only sexy pick that goes after #1 ? Really?

I do, it's based on supply and demand more than anything because I'm not a fan of Mariota but believe he holds the best chance of having a team move up, Chip Kelly notwithstanding. Where are the QB's? And it's the most important position. Of course he's the most likely to be traded up for.

I think the Jets choices will come down to ......

DL Leonard Williams, USC
WR Amari Cooper, Alabama
OLB Dante Fowler Jr, Florida
OLB Randy Gregory, Nebraska
OL Brandon Scherff, Iowa

Lots of folks now have Clemson's Vic Beasley moving into the Top 4 likely to Jacksonville.

To be honest..would be happy with any of them after seriously taking trade offers..

If Cooper or White are there at 6 I could see a teams sniffing around the pick potentially for Shelton also...Shelton is a freaking animal in the middle

watch Shelton sepecially play at 1 minute mark when he rolls over and then pushes guard back into QB I think this guy is the most powerful guy in the draft and hes agile

If we go OLB at #6 with Fowler, Beasley, Gregory, Dupree or Ray then say Sammie Coates in round 2 that would be a great start to our draft. I would be thrilled with Cooper if we go WR at #6 also. Heck, anyone would be an improvement! :nudie:

I like your order for #6 , but I'm not feeling Coates at #37 . I'd rather a guy like Dorsett, one of the OTs or RB.

I'm also hearing a lot about Shane Ray that I like and most mocks drafts I've seen have us drafting him. What do you guys think about him?

Still very much hoping for Mariota but the more Tenn. says nothing about him the more I think they want him. I think their silence is an effort to in any way not change Tampa's choice of taking Winston. I think they want Mariota badly.
Thats a great point, NC, and it never even occurred too me.

I think Cleveland would be a prime candidate to trade up for Cooper or White, and 12 might be a good spot to snag Dupree. Gregory probably slides to 12 too now, but I'd take Dupree if both are on the board.

A few things...

1) It was Terry Bradway's doing that the Jets traded two 1st round draft choices in 2003 to move up to the 4th overall pick and select Dewayne Robertson.

2) I would prefer the Jets go OL at #6 if there's value and also assuming Mariota isn't there.

3) Really, any draft scenario must have a QB at some point during the 1st 3 rounds. Jets fan need something to hope for at the QB spot and right now we have ZERO hope of getting the QB position ironed out.

Excellent post.

My only disagreement is that Scherrf is really the only OL candidate rated in the top 7 and I have him behind the two QBS and behind the two WRS and also behind Fowler and Ray

If Mariota is gone at 6, I agree that we will take one of Hundley, Perry, Grayson or Mannion in a later round and he will be part of the competition. I still think Fitzpatrick wins it but, as a Jet fan,.I would love to see Smith become a legit NFL QB, win the job, play mistake free football and lead the Jets into the postseason

I am not enough of a draftnik to know if an OL has value at 6? Maybe we can trade down, accumulate more picks, and still get a top OL in the 1st round? I'm just thinking our OL could still use more of a talent infusion.

On the QB front, if Mariota is not there at #6 , I would love for the Jets to draft Petty. He seems like an interesting athlete. Take it for what it is worth, but I see good instincts with this kid.

I like Petty a lot as well. It seems many think he has the biggest upside in the draft but had a ton of work to do. He definitely has the measurables. I think he would be a great option to sit and learn.

There are so many if's out there and I am not knocking anyone for there input. The draft is getting closer (days still dragging along). We have many needs. OLB, G, QB. I myself have put CB, and OL out there as need positions just to hear other comments. OLB, G, and QB may not seem a alot, but there's also RT, WR and positions of needed depth. So hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will be able to have a draft pick board as there was on JC.

One thing from MAC's quotes yesterday that I don't think is a smoke screen is his feelings about OL..unless the guy is really rated high..they wont go OL early..unless a big name drops...I think that philosophy is also proven by all the free agent OL signings we have made..they have 13 or 14 now I am sure they will take one somewhere but my humble guess is not early..unless a trade down and PEAT is there later...
