The best part of his extension is we will get a top 6 pick for the next 3 years. Surely we can build a nice team in 8-10 years with top 6 picks.
wow didn't realize you are on the inside and can definitively state that Bowles lost the team even though those same players you are talking about have admittedly stated that fans like yourself don't know what is going on behind the scenes in the locker room on the practice field but keep assuming... I am also assuming you haven't been watching the games this year as this team in all three phases have been busting their humps from start to finish... sorry gas., but you are totally wrong, what happened last year was a mutiny from a group of aged veterans that took the wrong path in backing up a guy who only cared about getting paid rather than getting back to work, his production showed on the field...
this team is bought in, a youth development that took shape and proved the media whom are so called experts that our team would not win one game, in fact we were down to the wire in almost every game this season because these players that have quit on this coach never gave up...
if maccagnan is left to his own devices, he will spend every available nickel in FA not to go 5-11 in '18..
look for '15 & '16 all over again..
Boy, you must be really pissed about this? Honestly, I figured this would happen as much as I hoped Woody would do the opposite.
Anyway, I'm not so sure resigning Mac isn't a good thing. 2015 and 2016 are damn nearshit, but the 2017 draft looks pretty good. Maybe not as good as originally thought, but still pretty good. Woody gave him one more year to prove:
1) draft a franchise QB
2) Fix OL
3) get the offense going
if Mac fails to complete any one of those mandates he will be fired.
Todd??? I still have no clue wtf Woody is thinking. Todd is Herm Edwards bad.
you're missing the big picture..Looks like that extension has really fired up Bowles and the teams "no show " in NewEngland

dont criticize herm Edwards. He had us in the playoffs and actually won us a division championship.
Bowles doesn’t do anything right.
... just for the sake of clarity.. in your mind, an NFL HC should not be fired unless some guy/guys on fan forum can name who's an upgrade?? OK.....
MaineJet, first of all - no one here is a Bowles apologist. And those of us who support Bowles are some of the most educated fans you will find anywhere, so on behalf of everyone, I take exception to that statement. Just because we support the decision to retain Bowles doesn't mean that we are uneducated fans. Some of us have actually played the game, in high school, college or in the pros. So save the superiority rap - we're not buying it.
No one here has said Bowles is perfect or doesn't deserve criticism. No one here has said Bowles hasn't made his share of mistakes as a Head Coach. So stop mischaracterizing what we've said to suit your twisted version of the facts. I do not believe this team will be better off without a viable replacement. Find someone better. In my opinion, Bowles has this team headed in the right direction. Find someone better, period. I've also said if you could get Harbaugh or Gruden you've have to consider it. But, I don't believe either is coming here. It looks like Gruden is going to the Raiders, and Harbaugh is going to stay at Michigan. And I doubt Harbaugh would have any interest coming to the Jets, especially the way the organization is structured. The rest of the coordinators are just that coordinators. None of them have a track record.
This team exceeded expectations, and Bowles had a very good year as a head coach. This team competed in almost every game and the players play really hard from him. The younger plays are starting to develop nicely. He earned the opportunity to see his plan through. If it doesn't work out as planned in the next two years, and this team under performs, he'll be gone. And so will Mac in all likelihood. You will either get your wish, or the Jets will be competing in the playoffs to contend for a Super Bowl. So what's the problem?
Last point - this is not a game, finding a viable replacement is essential. That is not dumb reasoning, it's called being strategic. Let me help you understand what that means - it means looking at the problem from all sides, examining the short term tactics, and also most importantly the long term goals. Then weighing the risks, and examining data to make a well considered decision. Hope this helps.
Sorry Elias, you're just going to have to learn how to roll with the punches. Dumping on Herm Edwards and Toilet, Mangenius, Kotite, etc. Brings me great pleasure.
And really I just need an opportunity to vent. Toilets incompetence has been pointed out over and over again by educated fans. I don't think I need to point out the laundry list of things he does poorly. He gets consistently humiliated at the hands of a good HC like Bellichick. He can only muster a .500 record against the average HC's like Gase, Rex, McDermott. The results have NEVER been there even once in 3 seasons.
Most of the toilet apologists in this thread try to say in order to criticize toilet you must point out a replacement. That's dumb reasoning, not that I'm afraid of playing their game. But regardless of whether you have a replacement already in mind, you MUST make the move when you see the team is better off without the HC. How many more times do the sold out toilet believers need to see him lose games in the 2nd half because the opposing HC made an adjustment, stole momentum, and toilet had ZERO adjustments in him to steal momentum back?
Thank you. I played from the time I was 5 through 4 years of college, and have coached at the youth, high school, and prep school (postgrad) levels. I resent the notion that people who don't call Bowles "Toilet" are somehow uneducated and don't know the game.
You also point out the biggest difference I've seen. Those who oppose Bowles hate everything he does, give him no credit for anything. It's an absolutist position. Those who do not oppose Bowles recognize both his attributes and his faults, and have stated them on this board many times. When is the last time you have seen Bowles get any credit from someone who calls him Toilet.
We don't always agree but from day 1 many years ago I have always respected your opinion. I also do not respect the opinion of name calling bullies Here is where I part ways I go by gut feeings and they tell me Bowles is the wrong HC for a young franchise QB and I don't see a SB win in his future.
Think about your own jobs - when did you actually start to get it? It takes two years to become even proficient in most professions, and 5 years before you are seasoned enough to really know your job well.

I can relate to that. But I also recall that during those learning years, there was someone there who would point out what I did wrong, offer suggestions on how to do those things better, and let me learn from that critique. Then I would refine what I had learned and improved my performance.
But in the case of Bowles, there is no one to do that. And if there is, he is not listening to that person(s). He makes the same basic in-game mistakes, clock management, number of players on the field, not making in game adjustments, or adjusting to the other team's adjustments and deviating from his pregame plan when necessary. And he makes them over and over again. His in-game coaching has not improved one iota from his first game. It makes me think he is not capable of learning or understanding the nuances of in-game coaching in the NFL.
OK, I'll give you that he has improved the clubhouse. But that may be it. The locker room discipline has not translated to improved discipline on the field. They still make too many penalties, mental as well as physical.
You don't make the industrial psychologist from your HR staff your Chief Operating Officer or VP of Sales. The positions require different skill sets. And he has not yet demonstrated that in-game coaching is one of his.
Who would be better? I don't know. But I'll admit that evaluating coaching candidates is not one of my skill sets. But during my career as a management consultant, companies paid me to answer the question,"What's wrong with this picture?". And I believe I just did.
Later
