After time to reflect on the would've, could've, should've, and all that crap, I'm keeping it simple. Lee is a Jet and I'll be pulling for him to prove all the naysayers(me) wrong!

Same here, I would have preferred Lynch or Treadwell, but its water under the bridge now, Lee is a Jet and I hope to God he exceeds my expectations. He's here and I'm rooting for him. I want to be wrong.

People here are complaining about his size, but you won't find many 6'4" 260-270lb LB's running a 4.43 40 time. Can't have both most of the time. And you can't teach speed.

But that is what Jets fans want. Get a speed guy, they want a guy with more size. Get a big guy, they want more speed.

What they want is basically a 6'7", 340 pounder running a 4.4.

lets take a look at a few things .

Buchannon plays inside now but started out as a dollar LB under TB so when some say Lee cannot plays inside it may not be true.

He (Bucannon) has added weight this year because some including me thought he might be overpowered at times. On the inside you need that weight. So from 210 to 222 at this point. The Jets need speed so it will be interesting to see what they do with Lees weight. Most guys from college need more muscle so his weight may go up some in that area. Also as he ages the weight may go up.

Good short read....Even our Jet owner said that the one thing we had to improve on going into this draft was improving our speed on defense...Mission accomplished.

Deone Bucannon added weight to play in 2016

As far as Lee I have not seen him play in School so it could be a good pick? Will it be worth a one? Time will tell. I see him as a second or third rounder because of the time I think he will be playing on the field. Lets trust for now!

WE STILL NEED A QB[/QUOTE]

I like it. The speed and instincts are exactly what we need at LB. We finally have a LB who can cover and stay on the field for 3 downs. The NFL has become (is) a passing league with many offenses that spread you out, and if your LBs can't cover you will never have an elite defense. I have read a bunch of reviews on this pick and all have been extremely positive, the only naysayers are from fans on this site. To think two astute football guys would select a player who is a bad fit for their team is absurd. This is exactly the kind of player that will excel in TB's defense, and will only elevate the level of an already stout but slow defense.

let me add...Bowles made it clear after the season that he needed to infuse his roster with more speed. Lee ran a blazing 4.47 40-yard dash with the fastest 10-yard split (1.54 seconds) at the Combine. He has safety cover skills, which immediately makes him an asset for a team that lacks a true three-down linebacker.

He can play the nickel now, and he will grow into a three-down linebacker,’’ Bowles said. “He will make us a lot faster, is a good pressure guy and a good cover guy who runs sideline to sideline. We’re going to use him in a lot of different places. We need a guy that can run around.’’

I am glad Mac and TB made this pick now I don't have to watch LB that look like they are running in quicksand.... and can can probably cover.

VS. downhill run teams he will struggle according to Mayock. Now I'm worried. Wait, there aren't very many downhill run teams. I can breathe again.

I don't know much or anything about this pick but I'm sure Mac and Bowles does, so I'll trust in them. I was hoping they draft Lynch but we all know the Jets need a fast coverage type LB and this pick seems to fit the bill. I'll hold out judgement until I see him on the field for a couple of games. Maybe even a full season. My question is, WHAT THE HELL DO WE DO ABOUT THE QB?

Does this mean that they believe in Petty? Does this mean their trading for Kaepernick or Bradford? Does this mean they will draft Dak Prescott or some other rookie QB? Does this mean they believe Geno has what it takes? Or does this mean they know Fitz is coming back at their price or are willing to give in now to what he wants? I truly hope it's not this because Fitz isn't worth that much money IMO.

Lee is going to be what we wished Lattimore was but isn't ..And what AA was but wasn't.. I think too many fans are stuck thinking about "our scheme", I see it as we get to start "our scheme" now. Lee will be a fan fav in year 2... Please stay healthy kid!#43

for too ling, we've talked about how slow and plodding our LBs are. and now we draft a guy with great athleticism and can play sideline-to-sideline and the arm chair coaches here think they know who is a better fit for bowles' system than bowles. people get too stuck on 3-4/4-3 terms. bowles runs multiple schemes and talks about how the nickle is almost his base defense. we just added a talented and productive fast LBer, and while i too grant he seems slightly undersized, i'm not gonna get hung up on a few pounds and an inch or 2. i'll judge the pick on how he does on the field, and it will be up to bowles and the coaches to put him in position to succeed.

I was one of the posters that complained for so long about our old, slow and huge LBs. So I'm not mad at this pick at all. Don't know much about him but Bowles and Mac believe he fits what we need then I'm all for it. I'm looking forward to seeing him causing havoc on the field in the Jets favor.

One thing to keep in mind is that Macc, and Bowles must have really liked this pick.

it's no secret that Both Dallas, and Denver were trying to trade up to get Lynch. If Macc wasn't in love with Lee it wouldn't have taken much to pick up the phone and make a call.

Lee's level of NFL success might very well be tied to scheme fit and his ability to add more muscle to his frame. His athletic traits and ability to make plays should make him a starter, but he won't unlock his full potential unless he gets strong enough to handle the rigors of an NFL linebacker.

Dane Brugler

Lee is a fantastic athlete with long arms and aggressive hands, but needs to develop his functional strength to consistently stack and shed at the line of scrimmage and keep himself clean. Although he is still young in linebacker years, he is a high character competitor, playing with sky-high confidence and natural football instincts to pick things up quickly. In the mold of Ryan Shazier or Kwon Alexander, Lee is a versatile run-and-hit linebacker with an attacking mind-set that fits today's NFL.

Gil Brandt

Lee (6-0 3/4, 232, 4.47 40) was a high school quarterback who played just two seasons at Ohio State. He is very athletic and can play in space. Some team might draft Lee and try to make him into a safety.

Mike Mayock

A guy that gained a lot of steam over the last month is Darron Lee. He’s a weak outside linebacker. He runs in the 4.4s and everyone is excited about him.

Maybe Macc want's to use him in case Fitz doesn't sign, and Hoyer wants to much. We'll know later today if smith is traded for a bag of rocks. :51:

Agreed 1000 percent. The Jets for years now have seemed to get LBs by whatever means that were big and slow as hell. Couldn't cover and could hardly pass rush. This kids seems to be the exact opposite and exactly what we need. I'm looking forward to seeing Mauldin and this young man causing havoc for many years to come. Keep in mind that we still have rounds 2-7, so the Jets take a flyer on Jaylon Smith or Myles Jack or Reggie Ragland and really strike it rich if either one of these rookies can get fully healthy and play to their full potential.

I'd thought about a combination of Smith and Lee , but I think we need a thumper like Ragland to compliment Lee and vise versa. I just envision that ILB como as a better fit.

Either way works for me, as long as it works of course. I see Mauldin taking a big jump forward this year and probably cracking that 10 sack margin. If he doesn't them maybe that's because he's being doubled a lot which will leave it open for Lee to do damage.

Maccagnan is rebuilding this LB corps. First it was Mauldin, and now Lee. We've got a 32 year old who's going to start declining soon (Harris), and a 30 year old who's one more bender away from a lengthy suspension (Henderson). I really liked what I saw from Mauldin. He can get to the QB. And don't count out Trevor Reilly. That guy just might find his way into the starting lineup, too.
