Kellen Winslow Jr. Challenges Antonio Cromartie to Fight After Twitter Argument

Is there anyone here who really thinks Cro's production (or lack thereof) correlates in any way to his Twitter usage?

I think the Colon thing was WAY bigger since it comes across as knocking a teammate. Even the Mo comments are more detrimental as they have the potential to lead to bad blood.

But I just don't see the big deal in Cro having a little fun. Unless he was tweeting those things during practice, I HIGHLY doubt they have any relevance to the season.

It is still a free country, no?

I think that most of the time, when athletes are "getting into trouble" on social media, it is really just the media blowing things way out of proportion, as they always do. Most comments are innocuous and don't need to be made into the controversy of the day. I think athletes have to walk a very fine line with the media, in that they have to talk to them, they have to be engaging, or the media decides they don't like the player, and then they treat him like shit forever. Can't be boring. But you also can't actually say anything of any note whatsoever, because then it will be A CONTROVERSY!!

As someone who respects and appreciates the NEED of human adults to COMMUNICATE THEIR FEELINGS, as part of defining who they are and making sure that others see them that way, too, I don't fault athletes for expressing themselves. I'm not one of these people who thinks they should just shut up. I actually think that for most people, "just shutting up" isn't even possible, because humans need to express themselves. They just do. It is part of being human. To say to someone "you aren't allowed to express yourself, because you have sports obligations" is really out of line in my opinion. The whole thing just feels like a trap to me, I'm not surprised so many make "mistakes."

PS: It is kinda more fun when they're talking trash, IMO.

Bowles takes the middle road. He's spoken to Cromartie about it, and it's stopped. He doesn't want his players to be robots (his word), but he also expects them to be smarter about what they say in social media. It's not going to be as bad under Bowles, IMO.

That three ring circus under Rex Ryan was much more out of control. Rex let the inmates run wild, and then came out publicly with "I've gotta do a better job of, you know, reeling this stuff in, and stuff like that..." What?

I know you're still sore about Rex getting justly canned, but he's not comparable to Bowles.
