Matz doesn't have to be back by 8/31 to be postseason eligible.

So here is a breakdown of the eligibility rules for playoff rosters.

The first part is easy. Any player who is either
- on the 25 man major league roster, or
- on the disabled list (7, 15, or 60 day DL), or
- on the suspended list, or
- on bereavement leave, or
- on military active duty

as of midnight on August 31st, just before major league rosters expand, is automatically eligible to be on the club’s post season roster.

In addition, a club can replace any player who is injured at the time that playoff rosters are submitted. So, for every injured player, the club can add a player who was not on the major league roster, or any of the above eligibility lists at the end of August.

In order to be eligible to be added in place of an injured player, one need not be on the 25 man roster, nor even the 40 man roster as of August 31. Any player in the organization as of August 31 can be used to replace an injured player, with permission from the commissioner’s office.

For some stupid reason, I was worried about this.

So in September, we can add the two additional pieces of postseason success to the roster, Matz and Duda and be ready for the Dodgers in the NLDS.

Thanks for the eligibility rules. So what that all means is that Matz is certain to take O'Flaherty's spot. If O'Flaherty is still on the active roster in 3 days. Can't help but think the acquired Eric Young for a reason. Maybe they call up Young on the 31st and DFA O Flaherty. Never know when you might need some speed off the bench to win a tight one in the post season.

Mets fans are finally showing up, and people are getting annoyed
By Brett CyrgalisAugust 26, 2015 | 1:33pm

The Mets are in first place, and their loyal fans — invigorated by a scintillating summer pennant race — are all over the place.
Waking up after a long slumber through below-.500 August dog days (or coming out of the woodwork to hitch a ride on the bandwagon), Mets fans have made their boisterous presence felt and heard over the past two weeks with stops in Baltimore, Philadelphia — and even Denver. Herded by the fan group known as “The 7 Line Army,” even the manager is noticing the difference.
“Our fans are incredible,” Terry Collins said Aug. 18 in Baltimore. “The 7 Line was here tonight, they’re unbelievable when they show. You’ve got to like it. If you’re a player, gosh almighty, how can you feel tired or fatigued when you have that atmosphere going? So it’s really cool.”

Wednesday night’s game in Philadelphia will be the third of a four-game set against the rival Phillies, who are in last place in the NL East and are 25th in average attendance with 25,010. That left plenty of room in the stands for an Amtrak-carried influx of blue-and-orange, and they were given something to cheer about as their Mets won 16-7 and 6-5.

After a home run from David Wright and a double by Michael Cuddyer in the second inning on Monday, Phillies radio announcer Larry Andersen said, “I’ll take the Nationals fans over the Mets fans.” When asked why, Andersen answered: “They’re just obnoxious.”

It was also noticed the previous weekend in Denver, where the 7 Line helped to buy up two sections of the outfield at Coors Field and make a ruckus, chanting “Let’s Go Mets!” even before the first pitch was thrown.

“Well, New Yorkers are louder than everybody else,” said Rockies manager Walt Weiss, who is from Tuxedo, NY. “So 100 New Yorkers are the equivalent to about 10,000 Mets fans. And that’s coming from a New Yorker.”

The Mets return home Friday to open a six-game homestand against the Red Sox and Phillies, before embarking on a 10-game road trip through Miami (hello, South Florida transplants!), Washington and Atlanta.
The big test of the Mets’ traveling fan contingent will come during that Sept. 7-9 series in a playoff-like atmosphere against the Nationals in the capital.

You said you are going to the game tonight, right? Atmosphere should be amazing -- probably the best it has ever been at Citi Field. For those of us who can't get to the stadium this season, let us know what it is like.

Should be awesome.

Will try and report in before and during

Thanks. I am taking my daughter up to Milwaukee for the Brewers - Reds game tonight. Stadium will probably be more than half empty as two bottom feeders go at it. I think it will be a bit different in Queens tonight.

Do you think Cespedes is going to amped up for this Red Sox series?

Yoenis Cespedes is also contributing in a big way, batting .361 with six homers and 15 RBI in the past seven contests. He played 51 games for the Red Sox (58-69) last year, batting .269 with five homers and 33 RBI before being dealt to Detroit in the offseason.

Brewers apparently did the ALS ice bucket challenge before the game today. Didn't realize that was still a thing this summer. After they finished they challenged the Mets and "former Brewer Wilmer Flores".

Sorry about not reporting in, but that can happen when a moron leaves smartphone at home

Belated report

WOR and 104.3 had remotes out by the old Apple pregame. Got to see Ron Darling at one and Wayne Randazzo at the other.

Made it to Raos for the pasta

The game

Harvey pitched great and had a 2-0 lead through 6

Unfortunately, Terry plays by the Larussa bible of modern bad baseball managing and he had to be removed at just over 100 pitches despite just having had 10 or 11 days rest

Verrett came in and after a couple of pitches and bombs the Sox led

The Mets tied the game but Clippard could only pitch the 8th and Familia the 9th because of Larusss rule 2, late inning guys can only pitch one inning

So now in came Carlos Torres, who is apparently exempt from the Larussa Rules since he pitched multiple innings yesterday

More gasoline on the fire and the resulting lead by Boston was too much for the Mets last inning rally to overcome

The good news is the Gnats lost dropping the magic # to 29

Tough one, but at least the Gnats lost. Went to Torres one too many times, I think he needed the day off.

The way the bullpen has been working recently, we desperately need a day off. TC should have allowed Harvey to go at least one more inning. Maybe given Familia the 10th as well. These guys arms are going to fall off. I am hoping DeGrom can get to the 8th today.

At least we will have plenty of arms once we get to 9/1.
