I panicked. Had to be up early. so after Familia, I posted that and went to bed thinking the heart of the order would get us the win... I was wrong as usual.
I was right about Harvey having a tough time controlling the strike zone. 103 pitches in 6 innings is too much. He needs to be better at getting quick outs. Too many wasted pitches... he needs to go 8 innings now that we're in pennant chase and get us all the way to Familia for the closeout.
This was a great point made by sg3:
Unfortunately, Terry plays by the Larussa bible of modern bad baseball managing and he had to be removed at just over 100 pitches despite just having had 10 or 11 days rest
Verrett came in and after a couple of pitches and bombs the Sox led
The Mets tied the game but Clippard could only pitch the 8th and Familia the 9th because of Larusss rule 2, late inning guys can only pitch one inning
So now in came Carlos Torres, who is apparently exempt from the Larussa Rules since he pitched multiple innings yesterday
Should have let Harvey go another inning or 2... especially since our middle bullpen needed a night off.

Reed should be a good addition. Former closer with the White Sox and Dbacks. Should be able to handle pressure situations down the stretch. Also saw that Parnell is expected to come of DL this week -- if his arm checks out, that will add depth to the pen.

I think Verrett never goes to Vegas and is back on the active roster on Tuesday 9/1 while O'F gets DFA'd when Matz comes off the DL

Happy with the win, but c'mon Terry. Colon is pitching great. 100 pitches through 8. Let him pitch the 9th. He is so worried about innings limits for starters, but he seems willing to run Familia into the ground.
