I agree that we need to do something to find a bat, but the Matz injury really limits our options. I am pretty sure Upton is FA at the end of this season. As much as we need a bat - unless Matz will be back soon, I don't think Niese for Upton makes us a better team this year.

Without Niese, unless matz is healthy soon, we would then have to go Gee or Logan Verrett as our 5th starter. If we are going to move Niese, I would hope its for someone under contract at least through next year.

Colon as a 5th starter. 4 out of 5 studs is more than any other team in baseball... we need a bat. We need to give a little.... especially for Tulo! Neise, Fulmer and a throw-in for Tulo and that attrocious contract.

No way the Mets are taking on that contract. $100MM over the next five years is not the way this team works. And I have the feeling we would regret it in a couple of years. Tulo is a great player when healthy, but he has had trouble staying on the field.

But, yes, we do need a bat. We need one desperately. If we deal for a bat, though it cannot be a two month rental, has to be someone that will help next year as well.

I'm hearing the same mediocre names over and over. Time for the Wilpons to open the wallet again!

Just because Maddoff played on their greed, doesn't mean we as fans should suffer.
Attendance is up 16% over last year. If they got Tulo, you could easily add an extra 1/4 mil in attendance this yr.
Add to that playoff revenue and season ticket increase next yr and that contract becomes a LOT more digestible.

Maybe a guy like Justin Turner from the Dodgers. Put him at 3rd base assuming Wright is not coming back. Or Carlos Gomez or Jean Segura from the Brewers. Or Upton from the Padres. There are bats out there that could help.
