And what will that cost us in prospects?

Don't know. Up to Sandy to figure that out. As long as we don't deal any of the big 4 (Thor, deGrom, Harvey or Matz) I can live with it. If we include Niese in a deal, I just hope its not a deal for a two month rental. In my view, if we trade Niese in the next two weeks has to be a deal that makes us better next year as well.

You might as well tell Matz to pack his bags for LA with Nimmo.

Be realistic... we're not getting this guy for Gee and a bag of balls. They will want MLB ready talent.

Just looked up Turner's contract. Free Agent after this season. Not willing to part with Niese for a two month rental.

How about Braun? Big contract too.... but very good power #'s. Small market team may want out from that contract.

We're a big market team... Wilpons need to start spending the hundreds of Millions of dollars they are bringing in.

According to a baseball source, the extension pays $105 million from 2016-2020 and includes $10 million signing bonus. Braun will earn $19 million in 2016-18, $18 million in 2019 and $16 million in 2010, and the 2021 mutual option is worth up to $20 million with a $4 million buyout. It includes a no-trade provision, and Braun agreed to defer some salary “to help keep the team competitive.”

I would love to have a guy like Braun in the lineup, but what kind of package do you think you could offer Milwaukee for Braun? The Brewers have not been able to sign most of their FAs over the last few years (Greinke, Gallardo, Fielder) -- Braun is the one guy they were able to keep to build around.

Had we just kept guys like Carlos Gomez and Justin Turner in the past, our lineup would be in much better shape now. I know -- hindsight is 20-20.

Sounds like a great idea to me. Get Conforto up here now:

I'm all for bringing up Conforto but it appears Mets are bringing him along slowly. Might have to wait until September.

You are probably right, Booz. Just shows how desperate we are for a little offense to be counting on a guy who has never played above the Double A level.

I know this is difficult to accept

BUT

this season is about 1) getting Harvey back from TJS 2) adding Thor and Matz to the rote 3) dealing Bart and probably Neise to a team with surplus bats and desperate for arms at the deadline and even 4) getting Wheels back in September

What we are finally seeing is a winning season for the first time since forever and putting the final pieces in what will be the best young pitching rotation in baseball which will lead to a major postseason run in 2016 and for 5 to 10 years afterwards

I know we've all been told to be patient for 15 years but OUR TIME is finally near FOR REAL

Not difficult to accept at all. Just hoping that any moves we might make in the next two weeks will improve us both this season and next. I get being patient, and I don't want to ransom the future, but we are sitting 2 games out of first with 70 games to play. I am not giving up on 2015 yet. I don't want to mortgage the future for a 2 month rental, but I am still not giving up on this season.

Don't think we would get much for Bart at his age and he has not been all that good over the last few weeks, but Niese's value may never be higher than it is now. If we can move Niese and add a bat that will help us this season and make us better next year as well, I think it is a risk worth taking. It would be a lot easier to do if we knew that Matz would be healthy for August and September.

Mets, who have talent to deal, are setting up for something…

July 20th, 2015 5:25 pm
CerroneCircleAvatarMatthew Cerrone: The Mets have enough talent to acquire two position players, such as Ben Zobrist and Justin Upton, while keeping Michael Conforto, Steven Matz and Noah Syndergaard, according to insiders with other teams.

Sandy Alderson is aiming high in his pursuit of an outfield bat, CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman recently said (July 17, 2015). According to multiple reports, the Mets have shown interest in Upton, Brewers OF Carlos Gomez and Reds OF Jay Bruce. Alderson is also looking to acquire someone that can play shortstop and third base, according to NY Post reporter Joel Sherman (July 20, 12:51 pm).

As I wrote this morning, my hunch is the Mets are trying to acquire two players, one more prominent than the other. It could also be they’re setting up for one deal, with a back-up option being lined up as well, but I prefer to think it’s two moves not one. In either case, I’ve heard from multiple sources saying they’ve checked in one a variety of guys, but they clearly have an ideal target.

Personally, I’d LOVE to see them get Zobrist and Upton, which would only increase payroll by $6 million if they include Jon Niese in the deal. I’ve heard the Brewers were recently scouting Double-A Binghamton, so I suppose Gomez is a legit possibility as well, I just like Upton a bit better. More important, I think this can be done by trading from Niese, Rafael Montero and Zack Wheeler, and prospects Brandon Nimmo, Gavin Cecchini, Michael Fulmer and Dilson Herrera.

This is why I feel good about Alderson’s chance to trade for at least one player. If I had to make a guess, I’d go with Zobrist (if an infielder) or Will Venable or Gerardo Parra (if an outfielder).

On the other hand, I’m equally skeptical they’ll get a big hitter, mostly because they’ve been talking about this caliber of a deal for years and never seem to do it. And, until I see them actually pull the trigger, give up the talent and take on the money, it’s hard to believe it’ll happen. I like that I’m hearing they think today is different, for reasons I outlined this morning. But, I’ve got to see it to believe it…

Ruugh game last night. Its awfully tough to watch this team if they fall behind early. And we finally get a well hit ball with runners in scoring position and Michael Taylor makes a great running catch and saves two runs.

I guess the only silver lining to last night's game is how strong Harvey looked after the slow start. Good that the bullpen got a night off (except Torres) after the 18 inning game. May have needed some time to shake off the rust after the All Star Break.

I know this will.sound unbelievable,

But Collins actually pinch hit for Jake after only 6 innings and 82 pitches

And PH Eric Campbell delivered a two run.scoring single to get to a 3 2 lead.

And scored 4 in the top ninth for a 7-2 lead and are still batting

Just another routine night at the ballpark for deGrom. He was dominant except for the one mistake to Ramos. Nice to see him get the win after leaving for Campbell in the 7th.

And 5 for 15 with runners in scoring position. After going 4 for 72 in the previous 8 games. They actually looked like real big league hitters tonight. Fun to watch.
