Bats were starting to come alive last night( great defensive play killed it). Carried over to tonight. Let's hope we can keep the mojo going. Syndergard tomorrow vs. Zimmerman.

Should be a good game.

Looks as if Upton no longer on Mets radar.... price was probably too high. Zobrist seems to be tops on list(but FA next yr.) with 36 year old Uribe and his $3 mil contract also being discussed.

Like you, Rott.... I'd be upset if Niese gets traded for a 1 yr. rental, especially with him pitching so well right now.
He's under control for 3 more years. $7 million in 2015; and $9 million in 2016. The Mets hold options for 2017 at $10 million (with a $500,000 buyout) and $10.5 million for 2018 (with a $500,000 buyout).

His value keeps climbing, as does his salary. Smaller market teams would prefer Matz, Thor or DeGrom for a quality infielder and then some. I hope they are un-touchable!

I'd be willing to wait for Herrera, Conforto, Nimmo and Cecchini(when his defense gets better). Two more years, (barring injury) and this lineup could be stacked with good young hitters. Even Mazilli is stroking it after he got back from suspension.

The Mets have added a new name to their wish list of hitters, as they are reportedly interested in acquiring Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Gerardo Parra.

Parra is a two-time Gold Glove winner and is hitting .313/.348/.500 with nine home runs and 30 RBI in 90 games this season with the Brewers. Parra would be a nice fit for the Mets, who need a big outfield bat in the middle of the lineup, especially with the possibility of Michael Cuddyer going on the disabled list in the next few days. Parra is having a fantastic year in Milwaukee, so demand for the 28-year-old outfielder is heating up as we inch closer to the July 31 trade deadline. Parra wouldn't likely command a king's ransom like some other hitters on the market and the Mets are reportedly more interested in moving former first-round pick Brandon Nimmo or prospects like Gavin Cecchini and Michael Fulmer rather than top prospects Michael Conforto or Amed Rosario.

The Mets are also said to still be interested in acquiring Justin Upton from the Padres. However, they are still firm on their stance that none of their core starting pitchers are available to be traded. Upton is only 27 years old but will be a free agent at the end of the season. He is having a solid season in San Diego, hitting .252/.331/.426 with 15 home runs and 49 RBI in 89 games.

Carlos Gomez is another big name the Mets are still targeting. One of the differences between Gomez and Upton or Parra is that Gomez is more than a half-season rental. The two-time All-Star has one season left on his contract and is owed $9 million next year. Gomez is also a two-time Gold Glove winner who is hitting .268/.329/.440 with eight home runs and 41 RBI. He broke into the majors with the Mets back in 2007 before being dealt that offseason in a trade that brought Johan Santana to New York.

This one really hurt today. Giving up the 2 run lead in the 8th. And now we are going up against Kershaw and Greinke in the next two games at Citi Field.

Yeah. I know he wanted to show confidence in Parnell but he didn't have it today. Should have brought in Familia after the WP

I am wondering if he was slow to get Familia ready in the 8th because of the Tuesday night game. Bringing Familia in to a 7-2 game to pitch the 9th and he threw about 20 pitches.

Either way, I can't stand what has become "push button" managing. Get your closer up to warm up for the 9th and you have to put him in, even with the big lead. Yesterday's game - you have your 7th inning guy, Mejia who throws a great, clean inning. Here is a novel idea. Leave the guy who threw a strong 7th inning in for the 8th. But no manager does that anymore -- not just TC. Mejia is the 7th inning guy. Parnell is the 8th inning guy and Familia gets the 9th. And you can't let the 7th inning guy start the 8th.

From the article linked in the tweet:

Clearly, the Mets are in a run-scoring crisis. “Awful … pathetic” is how one talent evaluator described them this week. It’s a certainty Michael Cuddyer will be placed on the disabled list as early as today. Michael Conforto, the franchise’s best hitting prospect, will be summoned from Class AA.

Mets starting lineup today. Against the best left-handed pticher in the NL:

Colon has the 7th best BA against lefties in the lineup. Colon at .143; Grandy, .121, and Campbell .091.

At least there is some good news on the injury front. Wright cleared to begin baseball activities next week and d'Arnaud cleared to begin rehab stint. Could have used those right handed bats tonight.

Trades have begun. Milwaukee sends Ramirez to Pitt, A's send Kazmir to Astros(that's a nice pickup for them).

Lets see what the Mets do.

Aramis Ramirez is hitting .352 (19-for-54) in July and .333 (28-for-84) since June 19. He can help #Pirates down the stretch. 35m

ARAMIS RAMIREZ TRADED TO PIRATES
Milwaukee dealt the veteran third baseman to NL Central rival Pittsburgh today for minor-league pitcher Yhonathan Barrios. Ramirez, 37, is hitting .247 with 11 HRs and 42 RBIs in 81 games this season.

Ramirez would have been a good, inexpensive bat who happens to play 3rd. Can't ask more than that.

The good Bart is on the mound tonight

Unfortunately the Mets Murderers Row is facing Kershaw

The cleanup hitter is .170 Mayberry Jr and the five hitter is .178 Eric Campbell

Lots a luck

Any chance we are going to be able to overcome this 1 run deficit with Kershaw on the hill. He is looking like he will be awfully tough to touch tonight.

Sure looks that way. Not sure why TC didn't challenge the call at first in the last inning. May have been our only chance to get a baserunner tonight/

With this miserable batting order..

Mayberry, Campbell and Dudu in the 4 5 6 spots,.a no hitter is a good bet every night and with Kershaw on the mound almost a,stone cold lock

The only good news as we watch No No number 2 for this season against the Flushing Flailers is that Greinke is NOT pitching tomorrow night
