Nice

Moves Parnell out of the set up.role and, should they somehow get to October, sets up a solid back end with Mejia not available

Still think Bart or Niese for a bat isa strong possibility

Niese maybe. Not sure they could get much for Bart. Niece is in his 20s, lefty, under contract one more season, and a lefty too. Could be part of a package to bring back a nice outfield bat.

Will be nice to get his bat back. Pawlecki with a yeoman's effort, but TD was ripping it up before his injury.

‘Excited’ d’Arnaud goes 1-for-3 for B-Mets
July 27th, 2015 9:45 pm
Travis d’Arnaud was 1-for-3 with a single and caught seven innings at Double A Binghamton Monday against New Britain.

D’Arnaud told reporter Adam Rubin he expects to catch a full game Tuesday for Binghamton and is on track to the Mets for their series against Washington at Citi Field this weekend.

“I feel great, and I’m excited to get back whenever they feel like I’m ready,” d’Arnaud told Rubin.

D’Arnaud, who went on the DL June 20 after straining his left elbow while tagging the Braves’ A.J. Pierzynski, caught five innings Saturday and DH’d Sunday for Binghamton in Trenton. He is 4-for-11 during this minor-league rehab stint.

Mets Trade Rumors: Rockies intend to deal CarGo, Mets not interested
Latest Update
The Mets are not interested in acquiring Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez, according to Newsday’s Marc Carig (July 28, 9:50 am).

In the wake of dealing Troy Tulowitzki to the Jays, a GM with interest told CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman that the Rockies also plan to deal Gonzalez (July 28, 9:17 am).

Previous Reports & Info.
The Mets, Angels, Royals, Cubs and Orioles have all reportedly been working to acquire a middle-of-the-order outfielder this summer.

Gonzalez, 29, has 10 HR, 23 RBI, a .405 batting average and 1.328 OPS in July. He is due roughly $7-8 million the rest of this season and another $37 million through 2017.

Matthew Cerrone’s Reactions
10:24 am: Ugh! I don’t understand why the Mets wouldn’t be interested in Gonzalez, who would be a terrific addition to Citi Field. I can only hope it’s because they have a line in on someone else, who is equally attainable and productive.

9:40 am: This past winter, all anyone wanted to tell me was how perfect the Mets match up with the Rockies, with the Mets searching for a shortstop and an outfielder with power and the Rockies seeking hard-throwing pitching prospects. The Mets and Rockies reportedly talked recently. I assumed it was about Tulowitzki, with Zack Wheeler‘s name being mentioned. But, maybe those talks were really about CarGo?

The Kansas City Royals have acquired Ben Zobrist from the Oakland Athletics for minor league pitchers Sean Manaea and Aaron Brooks, the team announced Tuesday.

The deal comes on the heels of Kansas City acquiring star pitcher Johnny Cueto from the Cincinnati Reds for three minor-league pitchers on Sunday.

Zobrist is hitting .268/.354/.447 with six home runs in 67 games this season.

EDITOR'S PICKS

Ben Zobrist could turn into a huge addition for Royals
The Royals badly needed an upgrade at second base and they got it by acquiring Ben Zobrist from the A's.
According to ESPN's Stats & Information, only three position players (Miguel Cabrera, Robinson Cano, Adrian Beltre) have accumulated more wins above replacement than Zobrist since 2009.

Zobrist missed a month following arthroscopic left knee surgery in late April for a torn meniscus.

He joins a Royals team that leads the AL Central a season after beating Oakland in the wild-card game on the way to its first World Series in 29 years and a seven-game loss to San Francisco.

Zobrist could fill a void in left field and play some second base. Left fielder Alex Gordon is likely sidelined until at least late September after the All-Star strained his groin tracking a fly ball just before the break. Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando were platooning at the position, but Moore sought an upgrade until Gordon's return.

Having Zobrist available to play so many spots also will give manager Ned Yost an opportunity to rotate players and rest others down the stretch to keep everybody healthy and fresh for what the Royals hope is another World Series run.

Manaea, 23, was selected by Kansas City with the 34th overall pick in the 2013 draft out of Indiana State. His professional debut was delayed by a torn labrum in his hip. Since his debut in 2014, the left-hander has gone 8-9 with a 3.23 ERA in 32 starts.

Brooks, a 25-year-old right-hander, was a ninth-round pick out of Cal State-San Bernadino in 2011. He's 42-32 with a 4.21 ERA in the minor leagues, and has a 20.57 ERA in seven innings with the Royals over the past two seasons.

The Mets couldn't trump that deal? Seem like pretty average players. Sandy better be locking up a serious hitter to let a good hitter like Zobrist get away for chump change.

Sandy Alderson: "There's a tremendous amount of disappointment, to some extent anger, to some extent amazement."

Hopefully he can appeal the findings and at least make it through August!

Mejia being a jackass ( who the Mets should just release and close the books on tomorrow IMO) make the deal for Clippard one brilliant coincidence by Alderson

My guess is he got some early tip from a little birdie at MLB that the jackass had violated the drug policy again

Meanwhile back on the field, Metsies are right in the middle of the division race and it's almost August

yeah, the Mets definitely knew Mejia was going down. Smart move to snag TC. Parnell, Clip, Familia is still pretty solid.

Thor with a gem. These young Bucks are for real!

Sandy said last night that they did not receive word of the Mejia suspension until after the deal with Clippard was done. May have been just dumb luck. Have to think that the A's asking price would have gone up had the Mejia news been public.

Don't ever want to see Mejia in a Met uniform again. And with his contract up at the end of the season, I doubt we will.

Yup. Saw that earlier. Makes you wonder why Wilmer is still in the game. Assuming it is final, I like the deal. Gomez brings a nice blend of speed and power. With Gomez under contract for next year, Lagares can finally get his shoulder taken care of ans will have plenty of time to rehab.

The New York Mets on Wednesday night reached agreement to acquire Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez as the trading deadline approached, sources told Yahoo Sports.

A game behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East and feeling the momentum of their first competitive season in seven years, the Mets have upgraded an offense that has scored the fewest runs in the game.

The cost for Gomez is expected to be 25-year-old right-hander Zack Wheeler, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and 23-year-old infielder Wilmer Flores.

The deal had not been announced as of mid-evening Wednesday, as the teams continued to review medical records.

The Mets acquired Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson from the Atlanta Braves at the end of last week, but still sought an impact hitter. Gomez generally qualifies, though he’s not posted the same numbers this season as he did the two prior. A high-energy player who plays a daring center field, Gomez is batting .266 with a .332 on-base percentage in 73 games for the Brewers.

[Follow the latest MLB news and rumors on Yahoo Sports' trade deadline tracker]

The Brewers sought young controllable pitching. Wheeler, in spite of his current rehabilitation, fits that description. He is 25, had a big fastball before elbow surgery, and should be ready to pitch for the Brewers early next season.

Gomez, 29, was signed by the Mets out of the Dominican Republic 13 years ago. The Mets traded him and three others to the Minnesota Twins for Johan Santana in 2008. The Twins traded him to Milwaukee a year later for J.J. Hardy.

A late bloomer, Gomez became an All-Star in 2013, when he batted .284 with 24 home runs. He was better in 2014, when he improved his on-base percentage to .356.

He can be a free agent after the 2016 season. He is due the remainder of $8 million this season and $9 million next season.

It's a move the Mets had to make on so many levels!

Gomez becomes the leadoff hitter, moving Grandyman down to the 2nd or 3rd hole.
Lagares can finally go get that shoulder operated on and be ready for next season.
We leave intact our Big 4 rotation of Harvey, Matz, Thor and DeGrom!

Nicely done by Sandy... kept his interest out of the media and hopefully will get the deal done tomorrow.
