This would be a very good bat to have in the middle of the lineup, but he's a corner outfielder. I thought we were looking for a CF? Oh, well I'll take Bruce...
Maybe we can get Chapman thrown in for another prospect?

Mets Trade Rumors: Reds are now willing to talk Jay Bruce, Zack Wheeler
Latest Update
The Reds are now willing to discuss a deal involving OF Jay Bruce and RHP Zack Wheeler, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney (July 30, 7:36 p.m.).

There had been reports in June indicating the Reds might consider trading 3B Todd Frazier, but recent talk has instead centered around them keeping him and signing him to an extension (July 17).

Previous Reports and Reaction
The Mets and Reds about discussed a deal for Bruce involving Wheeler last week, but talks did not gain traction (July 25). Nevertheless, the Mets continued to scout Bruce, a source told MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo earlier this week (July 26).

Bruce is due roughly $5-6 million between now and the end of the season. He will earn $12.5 million in 2016. He can earn $13 million in 2017 or be made a free agent with a $1 million buyout.

MLB.com’s Reds reporter Mark Sheldon believes Bruce could be dealt before Friday’s non-waiver trade deadline (July 26), since they’ve been listening to trade offers for him since the start of the month (July 18).

The Angels, Royals and Orioles have also reportedly shown interest in Bruce, according to updates by MLB Trade Rumors (July 30).

We kept Wheeler!! That's big... and we got a good bat.
Nice recovery Sandy.

The Mets will trade for OF Yoenis Céspedes from the Detroit Tigers, according to reporters Ken Rosenthal and Jon Heyman.

Céspedes is hitting .293 with a .323 OBP and .506 SLG over 102 games in 427 plate appearances this season.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson will address the media at Citi Field after the deadline passes at 4 p.m.

Cespedes is due to make $4-5 million between now and the end of this season, after which he will be a free agent. According to how his contract was structured, he is not able to be extended a qualifying offer.

The Mets will send minor league pitchers Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa to the Tigers in the deal, according to Joel Sherman. Fulmer was listed was the Mets No. 7 prospect, and Cessa was the No. 16 prospect, according to MLB.com.

RHP Zack Wheeler is not in the deal, according to Heyman.

Great job

Picked up a real bat and we still have the 2016 5 man rote of Harvey, DeGrom, Syndagard, Matz and Wheeler lined up to dominate all of MLB.

And Wilmer still at 2B.

Bring Wright back when healthy

Wright 3B
Tejada SS
Flores 2B
Murphy or Johnson 1B
Cespedes, Conforto, Granderson OF
D'arnaud C

Pawlecky, Duda, Lagares, new faces ...position subs

5 man rote above

Niese. Spot Starter

Montero, a Torres or two Parnell...front of pen

Familia and Clippard, back of pen

Bring it on

How good does that eff'd up trade with the Brewers look right now. Brilliant, Sandy, brilliant.

The only two RBIs in the biggest game of the season.

Sometimes the best trades are the ones that don't get made

Cespedes, probably a better bat than Gomez + Wheeler+Wilmer for two low level prospects

Could be one of the best ones for the Mets ever

Anyhoo, could have been 4 back, now only 2 with Hair and Thor lined up for the weekend

Looks like that screwed up trade flipped a switch in Flores head. That play at 2nd was outstanding! Fully laid out.

Looks like a different hitter...locked in and focused not the deer in headlights guy in pressure spots like he was b4.

Glad to see the bullpen regrouping and fighting through tough pitches again.
That Werth at bat by Clippard was epic! What a battle and what a pitch on that called 3rd strike!

So this is what pennant race baseball is all about... I'd forgotten.

The hard part is over: Time for Mets to prey on the weak
By Mike PumaAugust 1, 2015 | 12:50am

A month ago we used this space to set a modest goal for the Mets in July: A winning record.
The fact manager Terry Collins’ crew entered Friday night 12-12 for the month with a chance to get that final notch represents success, given the caliber of competition the Mets faced.
In this case, the Mets took punches from the Cardinals and Nationals immediately following the All-Star break, but their success against the Giants and Dodgers was noticeable.
Maybe the best thing that happened to the Mets was the trades that brought Kelly Johnson, Juan Uribe and Tyler Clippard, supplying experience to a team that had over-relied on young players.
For August, the Mets have to devour opponents who are nowhere close to the playoff race. The Mets will play meaningful August games for the first time in seven years, and that’s a start.

First a review of the Mets’ respectable July:
MVP: Curtis Granderson
In a lineup that largely has been overrun by anemic bats, the veteran outfielder has provided a stable presence atop the batting order. Granderson entered Friday with a .785 OPS for the month — good, but not great — and has lately avoided the kind of prolonged slumps that plagued him in his first season-plus with the Mets. Granderson doesn’t lead the team in homers, but he has been the Mets’ most consistent power threat.

LVP: Juan Lagares
The Gold Glove center fielder’s game has regressed to the point the Mets appear ready to move on if they can find a trade that makes sense. Most maddening to Mets officials has been Lagares’ inability to handle right-handed pitching: He entered Friday with a dreadful .579 OPS against righties. Lagares hasn’t been the same player defensively, only leading to speculation his right elbow strain (which could require Tommy John surgery) is affecting his overall game.
Looking ahead
The toughest part of the schedule is behind the Mets, who will spend most of August facing sub-.500 teams. Later in the month, the Mets begin a stretch of 13 straight games against the Rockies, Phillies and Red Sox, all of whom are last in their respective divisions. The Rockies also have a four-game visit to Citi Field before that stretch. Other than the Nationals series this weekend, the Mets will face a potential playoff team when the Pirates come to town for three games.

Toughest managerial decision
The bullpen had been so dependable in the first half of the season, but now appears vulnerable, following Jeurys Familia’s recent struggles and Jenrry Mejia’s second PED suspension of the year. Will manager Terry Collins stick with Familia in the ninth inning or soon look to veteran Tyler Clippard to fill the role? Bobby Parnell’s velocity also has been a concern. Collins has to figure out how the pieces might fit.

5 key stats
3: Homers by Lucas Duda on the road this season. His other 15 came at Citi Field.
5: Scoreless starts of at least 7 2/3 innings this season by Jacob deGrom — the most in the majors.
12.8: The Mets’ defensive WAR, according to Fangraphs, which ranks seventh in the major leagues.
23: Strikeouts in 321 plate appearances for Daniel Murphy, giving him the second-best ratio in the NL (one strikeout in every 14 at-bats.)
88: Days spent on the disabled list this season by Travis d’Arnaud, who returned to the Mets’ lineup on Friday.

Game of the month
Mets 4, Giants 1, July 8

Jacob deGrom fired a two-hitter over eight innings with 10 strikeouts to help the Mets complete their first winning road trip of the season with four victories in six games against Los Angeles and San Francisco. Eric Campbell hit a two-run homer in the ninth to give the Mets a cushion.

Gomez's numbers this season aren't that much better than Flores'.

Cespedes was the bat I wanted, so happy we got him.

Great game last night...Flores has cried his way into Mets lore.

Ya gotta believe!

It would be nice if we could sign him as a FA after this season. Hopefully NYC grows on him.

Conforto down to Vegas to make room for Cespedes. I have no problem with the move, let him go where he will play - especially since we now have something that resembles a major league lineup.

I think it's still a step up for Conforto since he was called up from Double A Binghamton

He will be a factor in 2016 if Cuddyer and Lagares keep stinking up the joint

WOW! What a great game by Duda.

Bullpen again is lights out with Torres, Robles and Familia.

Big game tomorrow... Could be in a statistical tie with a win.
