Clearly the Jets have no confidence in smith. Yet still they are dressing him before Petty.
Fair Point

Its clear Bowles has ZERO confidence in Geno, so its a little unnerving that he is dressing Geno ahead of Petty.

For those who say Petty is not ready and lets not go there yet, IMO that is your best argument.

I thought Fitz was concussed also?
But when he came back and thru 2 pics I was so pissed didn't even put 2 and 2 till now
He may be average at best, and he probably was kookoo
But he is one tough SOB , not that it helps us out , just IMO

I don't think there is anything left to see this year. I believe the JETs will stick with Fitz for the year unless he dies, and then, and only then, put in Geno. We will only see their free agent signings and draft picks (except Petty) and we will see zero growth. The management thinks we have a shot at doing something? Not thinking we are any better off than last year.

It's not for me Ham. I honestly think they have decided to give Petty a Red shirt year. In all honesty Bowles is not in a win now or get fired situation.

If he's a smart guy, he's more concerned what is going to happen next year with Petty. The Jets think they can win with Fitz. I think so to. They can't be playing this level of sloppy, numb headed football, and expect to win. With anybody at QB.

Yes the QB situation is a major concern. What I'm more concerned about is the total lack of positional discipline. They look more like a mob out there. No body's where their supposed to be. That's very concerning to me

Thoughts:

1. Why wasn't Watts double-teamed more often?
2. Why are we the only team without a tight end?
3. How is it possible that Devin Smith can be so bad? It's incredible to me that such a fast human being has so much trouble getting separation.
Of course, he always drops the ball when he does manage to get open.
4. Why can't Kerley get any playing time? He HAS to be a better option than Smith. On the other hand, Kerley is a horrific punt returner. It's either a fair catch or "Let's run to the right sideline."
5. We desperately need outside linebackers. On the inside, Davis is a terrible disappointment.
6. It's too early to play Petty. Once we're eliminated, give him some games to get his feet wet.
7. We must be the slowest team in the NFL.
8. Revis is still good, but not so good anymore that he can always play on an island. Even good cornerbacks need help over the top at times. Mix up our coverages at times.
9. Many of us got carried away by the 4-1 start. We were a 4-win team for a reason last year. Yes, we plugged some holes, but this was more than a one year project. I'm as guilty as anyone in terms of having been overly optimistic.

Perhaps but it is a lot more of doing what they are told to CYA. Right now it appears we have way overrated this management and the team has no direction but down.

I'm not sure what your expectations were, but 5-5 at this point isn't exactly way out of line. I thought they were a 9, maybe 10 win team with the additions they made. I still think they are, as of now, 8, maybe 9.

It looks awful because they have been so atrocious in the past four games or so, and that is understandable. But unless your expectations were of a 12 or 13 win season, this team hasn't exactly underwhelmed.

I know this is a bad football team.

Well, I'm glad I didn't watch this one live! TB needs to really start benching people. Devin Smith should be inactive next week, maybe light a fire under Mr. Stone Hands(for the record, I loved this pick).

Overall no
But going 1-4 the last 5 and not looking good in that one win is extremely poor
Don't know if we can finish out at 8-8 which is kinda what I expected
But very disappointing after a 4-1 start
It all is by perception of the ebb and flow of the season.

Funny you said this
My Mom asked my Dad what would he do if he was coach
Response" send out 11 different players "
And I don't think he was kidding.

Agree

One of the things that happened was that they started very fast, and really changed peoples expectations (myself included). Still, they are playing well below what my original expectations were. They are not playing hungry, or motivated.

What we saw out there today were two mediocre teams that were fighting to stay on the play off fringe.

One of the teams understood the urgency of the situation. The other team played like they were just taking the garbage out.

I still haven't made up my mind completely. (The dust has settled, and my frustration has subsided). During the 4-1 stretch, the Jets looked like a very solid team. During these last five games, including Jacksonville, they've looked more like a non-playoff team. They've got 6 games left. Anything can happen. If they take 4 outta 6 they could make the playoffs in the AFC.

The biggest things IMO are the offense getting Ivory going, and our CB's waking the hell up and playing like they're capable of. I've never seen Revis get abused like that before. Hopkins is an up-and-coming player, though. And Cromartie might need a benching. I want to see what Milliner can do. He needs to be up to speed by now.

This is a 5-5 football team. That's it.

Over the course of a 16-game season, unless you are really good or really bad, you are going to have stretches where you play above your level and stretches where you play below it. It all evens out, generally, in your final record. The Jets started on an upswing, and are now in a downswing.

After the first five games, did anyone think they were really an .800 (13-3 or so) team?

And after these past five games, does anyone think they are really a .200 (3-13 or so) team?

If not, then it all evens out. Sports radio and message boards are perfect venues for the fans who overreact to every micro-event. Every win, and they are headed to the Super Bowl. Every loss, and fire the entire staff and bench everyone. Just listen to guys like Joe Beningo. He has no context, no ability to see the big picture.

Revis has been playing terrible the last few weeks. I know the stats don't show it but the day that Hopkins had today would have been what Sammy Watkins would have had if he held on to the ball or if Taylor threw the ball better. I was at that game and Watkins was running free but Rex was being and stuck with the ground and pound philosophy. Revis has struggled mightily the last few weeks and that is sad.

Revis may prove to be our Al Davis move. I don't think we can blame the horrible contract of Revis on Mac, Woody forced that down his throat. Time will tell, but I was totally against it.

Despite Revis losing a step he's still Revis and will be a solid player. Hopefully the contract isn't crippling though.

The Jets were beaten like a drum today. This was bad. I give them credit for it not being a blowout actually. We could of lost by 20 easily lol. Ugh, so disappointing. We made the Raiders and Texans look like the Pats. I really want to like Bowles, but have been pretty unimpressed. The Texans game plan looked so much better then ours. Smith dropped at td and Marshall dropped a huge gain. Giacomini got abused, and we didn't give him any help until we let Watt blow up a bunch of plays. Ivory has been unimpressive for 4 weeks. Maybe it's the line, maybe he's hurt, or maybe he's overrated. The Jets d let us down against a sub par qb as well. We took 2 really moronic penalties.

What in his practices has he shown you that tells you he's ready?

I haven't seen him in practice, especially since the season started, so I don't know. What have you seen in him? His release? Footwork? Reads? What makes him not just a different option, but a better option?
I honestly can't answer that question and you know that. I haven't seen them or him in practice either. I can only hope that the coaches have seen him progress and he's at least 75% ready to go out there and be not just another option but a better option or at least as good as what we have in Fitz and Geno. If he's not then were in trouble. When I say we're in trouble if he's not ready, I don't mean that I'm expecting him to come in and save our season. What I mean is we want at least get a chance to see him play this year to see if he's a viable option for the future. This team is not going to the playoffs with any QB we have on this roster, so it is what it is and I think they should give Petty a shot if he's at least 75% ready to go.

it seems like our team hasn't played hungry, motivated or understood the urgency of the situation for weeks & that falls at the feet of bolwes..

i'm not asking bowles to pretend to be someone he's not (pitching a fit) because players generally see right through that kind of stuff & then he would lose the respect of his locker room..

i'm with you FL.. i'm becoming a bit concerned as well..
