You guys can stroke each other all the live long day. Im happy Petty played wll also, but i was still hoping the Jets would lose.
The WORST part about this game? We're stuck with toilet Bowles for another season.... so slap each other on the ass and be happy the Jets are surely screwed through 2017.

if "winning" today/winning out helps petty become "the guy," so be it..
it is what it is. We can only watch.
So you hate the head coach so much that you would rather lose for the pick and the coaching change than win and have a potential franchise QB.

The problems with this team start at the top and even you acknowledge that. The problem must be taken out by the root or else it will come back. Todd Bowles and his CS is the root cause of this shit show.

And what exactly were we fighting for today. Just like I do not want to fight a war that lacks a clear military objective, i do not want to win meaningless games.
You can't ask the players to tank games, that's how injuries happen, you play to win the game (end of discussion)!
You want to lose, pull all of the starters and let the backups play. Even then there is no guarantee that you lose and you run the risk of injuring your QB (who may be your franchise QB, only time will tell).
They are evaluating Petty and that's great! I can't expect them to lose and there is no saying that being 1 or 4 draft spots higher will net you a better player, the draft is nothing but a huge gamble! Sometimes pick 15 ends up better then 1.

I agree I wish they had lost, but I will take wins with Petty. It builds on next season.

I'm torn because I have seen a lot that has dismayed me about Bowles and his staff. I also value continuity, and I think back to when Giants fans wanted to run Parcells out on a rail after his first season or two (no, this is not comparing Bowles to Parcells, but rather to a team pulling the plug too quickly).
I get what you're saying, and there is nothing worse than being stuck in mediocrity - not good enough to compete, not bad enough to get the picks to rebuild. But in this case, if Petty shows development toward being a solid answer at QB, it is worth it.
i would suggest doing a pros & cons list with bowles & ask yourself, how many cons do you seeing him fixing with time..
That's a pretty good idea. I recently did list his cons here, in another thread.
It's not the easiest to project who will improve upon their faults, but I see what you're saying. And I know the argument for continuity doesn't hold water if the coach is poor. What good is continuing with a bad coach for continuity's sake?
now that you mention it, i did read it & agreed almost word for word..
personally, i don't ever see bowles becoming a leader of men..
he finally called out his defense for lack of effort in the colts game & one day later he retracts it..
even yesterday, when the refs didn't call a personal foul when petty got hit late going out of bounds right in front of him.. it almost looked like he had to force himself to barely let his feeling be known to the officials.. like he finds a public display of emotions distasteful..
too many really important things that make him a lousy HC aren't/won't be fixed over time.. my thoughts anyway..

Well, I guess it's not as bad as it seems winning yesterday? I think we were currently slated to pick 5th before yesterday's game? Looking at the standings, after the win we are still in the 5th overall. There are only two 4 win teams, that's us and the Rams. We already lost to the Rams so we would pick ahead of them.
So to I illustrate:
Browns 0-13
49ers 1-12
Jacksonville 2-11
Bears 3-10
Jets 4-9
Rams 4-9

Rams are ahead of us because of strength of schedule. Head to Head is not the tie breaker for the draft.
