what you think?
winner at left tackle, loser doesn't deserve starting right tackle.
have a liking for Northern Iowa Trevor Penning from Senior Bowl.
could give us a good to great right tackle next to AVT. dominate right side.
I believe in Mekhi not only coming back full strength but opens the door to let Fant play out his final year as backup. could trade him? can even extend him, and I know they will figure a way to use him in some kind of rotation, be the swing tackle if he does not win the left tackle job.

Loser becomes the backup IMHO. I really like the idea of Penning next to AVT, but where do you draft him, at #10? Imagine how nasty that OL would be if Becton fulfills his enormous potential.

I think they feel good with drafting an OL in the first especially if the mindset is winner is left tackle, loser gets to start at right tackle? I dunno about that. Mekhi Becton wins the job back, opens the door to trade Fant by trade deadline or keep him and he walks in free agency and you know he will get paid, comp pick will come to us for him. I don't like the idea winner gets the left tackle job but the loser also wins gets the starting right tackle job so what makes either of them try to win the job as the loser also wins?

If Ickey is there at 4 you take him. If he is gone then at 10 Jets can take Penning now of course trade down is possible, but with the 4th pick it is someone that wants to come up for Willis. with the 10 pick is someone in the mid teens that want to come up for a certain player, while allowing us still to pick Penning.

That is a tough call. I would say I have more faith in Becton sliding over to RT, albeit temporarily, because I think Fant is a better suited LT. Even though Fant has played RT, I just believe Becton's skill set translates better on the other side.

That said, I don't know if I would necessarily go OT at 4. Maybe later in the draft as a depth piece, then when Fant's contract is up, slide Becton back to LT and plug in the pick at RT.

As much as I wanted Ekwonu at #4. I'd rather go DE and take Jermaine Johnson II. I have serious doubts that Penning will make it to #10. Even though he would bring that type of Nastiness the Jets Offensive line has lacked. I am having serious doubts about Becton (a gut feeling). He seems to lack "TUFF - DUDE. He needs to learn from Trevor Penning and the School of being NASTY.

Based on what was said in both pressers by the GM & HC the Jets should really take an OT in this draft early .

I still can't flush the stark difference in performance by Fant at RT in 2020 and LT in 2021. As much as Joe has tried to cover holes and build the roster - his #1 priority is keeping that QB healthy. Fant is no sure thing at RT. Unless the whole thing is addressed by the end of draft night, there are question marks that shouldn't be by that point. So what is the smartest path? Draft a premium Tackle and deal Fant?

I can't see waiting until camp to pick a winner because to me the problem becomes what to do with the loser? Suppose Fant loses and is worse at RT like 2020? Suppose Becton can't get right-then what?

Gun to my head.........I draft the Tackle.....deal Fant to either net a WR or get a 1st for 2023

i think you can get a first after a LT on another team ruptures an Achilles or something like that happens during TC.
but an experienced WR could be had beforehand.

personally, i thought that the 2020 vintage of Fant was one of if not the best player/s on the team.
i never understood the criticisms over his play.

he is a big strong finesse blocker... on the Left, he reminded me of Brick. on the right, he taught me what Brick would look like on the right.

I gleaned this from the "experts", not my own judgment. They feel he fell down somewhat and ...
it seems Thibodeaux has been leapfrogged again, by Georgia defensive lineman Travon Walker, who recently became the betting favorite to be the No. 2 overall pick ahead of offensive tackles Ikem Ekwonu and Evan Neal, safety Kyle Hamilton and Thibodeaux.
N.Y. Post...4/4/22
Guy could be either Lawrence Taylor or Lawrence Welk . He’s that much of an puzzling option.

TBH, i didn't want to go the Thibs route, and given my preference of trading down, i still do not. However, if we are in a spot to decide between him and another DE, i am starting to lean his way.

It's like the old "Toyota Camry" commercials. every sales person compares the "the this", "the that", and "the other thing" to the Camry as a means to make the sale for their car. Finally, the buyer says... "why not just get a Camry?"

everyone is leaping, everyone is jockeying, everyone is being compared to Kayvon... so "why not just get a Kayvon?"

As much as I recently posted on us taking a Defensive player at #4. My Gut is still hoping we take Ekwonu if he is available. I am not high on Thibs or Walker. I hope they are gone when we pick. I can't see paying Fant big $$$ when we could possibly get a #1 for a 29 yr old LT. Even if Becton can't cut it at LT. We would have the option of paying either Ekwonu, Neal, or Cross (22 yr olds) to play LT for far less $$$.

I feel that with his self confidence, that fact that he "slips" to the Jets at #4 will make him play with an intensity to prove the "experts" were wrong. We could catch lightning in a bottle with him. Or, the lightning could just be a flash in the pan.
I can be easily convinced by both clichés.

Man I want that guy gone before pick 4 . And truth be told I wanna trade out of pick 4 and use 10 to draft either Our edge in round 2

Tackles at the Senior Bowl were saying that Sam Williams "could not be blocked"... if you're not sold on Thibs or Walker, there are choices in round 2, and this draft is so deep at every spot, Sam would be like getting a first rounder.

i think i feel what you're saying. you want him gone at 4 so we don't debate the quandary of drafting him or not to draft him?

I try and pay attention to @gmf1369 postings . He mentioned that certain types fit this wide 9 scheme that we’re moving towards. Guys like Ojabo and Sanders and Luketa might be more suitable. That being the case I could see us going CB early along with WR and attacking the defensive edge on day 2 . I can’t Walt
