do we go the Tyrod Taylor route and try to sign him around 3 years $60 Million?
do we attempt to trade for AJ McCarron (cost would probably our 3rd rounder this year)?

do we roll the dice and draft one or two prospects?

for me personally I would rather trade for McCarron, and re-sign McCown on 1 year deal, wait til next year's QB class and draft Stidham or Fitzgerald...

I think Alex Smith is heavily overpriced even tho for a team like the Browns he would be a good fit...
I think Kirk Cousins is a good option but for us we don't need an average QB that may already hit his shelf... Fans will be irate if we get him and he lays an egg then our future cap is destroyed...
As for Tyrod Taylor he has some good to his play but uneven talent when it comes to consistency... I think he may end up back in Baltimore or possibly land in New Orleans...

This off season is key in this rebuild but they have to be smart not only with the laid out contracts but the talent across the board they try to add this developing roster... McCarron could be the answer entering contract year gives us a test run to see if he can be that guy... Then with bringing back McCown as a fall back option would be acceptable... Like most I think Petty's time has come and gone but think they will try to give Hackenberg another year to either develop or wash out...

James Carpenter is due to make $6.8 million next season, the Jets could recoup $4.7 million of that if Carpenter were to be let go, according to overthecap.com...

Cousins is going to garner a 5 year deal $150 minimal, there will be a signing bonus of $50 M minimal and at least $90 M guaranteed, so HELL TO THE NO!!!

As for Bridgewater he is also going to seek some kind of competitive deal with guaranteed dollars, too risky...

Trading for McCarron makes sense, a one year flyer to see if he could be the guy, at worst we will regain a compensatory pick if we let him leave in FA next off season...

At same time we have at least 5 cap casualty players we are likely to release maybe we can package one or two with a 3rd day 2018 draft pick to acquire him...

Kearse, our 2018 4th is more than enough...

they can have McClendon, Carpenter, Wilkerson, Forte if they want but believe Kearse and that pick is worth enough to trade for McCarron...

The Jets signed LB Micah Awe to a reserve/future contract.​

Awe, a 24-year-old Lagos, Nigeria native, played with the BC Lions in 2017 and was credited with 54 defensive tackles while lining mostly weakside linebacker.​

In four seasons at Texas Tech, the 6’0”, 221-pound Awe collected 266 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and six pass defenses. One of five team captains in 2015, Awe led the Red Raiders with 126 tackles and he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He spent a few days on the Buccaneers’ practice squad and signed with the Lions on March 7, 2017.​

They are considering placing the franchise tag on Kirk Cousins, ESPN reported Sunday morning. By doing so, it would allow the Redskins to trade Cousins instead of him walking away as an unrestricted free agent. That would allow them to recoup something for him, and lessen the blow of dealing talented young cornerback Kendall Fuller and a 2018 third-round pick to the Chiefs for Smith, which can’t become official until the first day of the new league year (March 14).

If the Redskins decide to tag Cousins, it could also turn out to be a huge fiasco, and not just for Washington. Cousins, who has signed the franchise tag offer each of the past two seasons despite wanting a long-term contract, will not be happy. He would be the top free agent on the market, with several motivated suitors, and could sign the richest contract in NFL history.

If he signs off on the franchise tag, he’s guaranteed $34.5 million in 2018, but loses another year in which he could sign a long-term contract. If he wants to, Cousins can balk at signing off on the franchise tag designation.

That’s when things would get messy.

The Redskins would immediately place a $34.5 million hold on their salary cap, essentially frozen cap space until Cousins agrees to the franchise tag. Cousins could let the situation drag out for months, meaning Washington wouldn’t be able to trade him before the 2018 draft and the Redskins could miss out on any other free agent they might want to pursue with that money.


All of the other teams that would be interested in either signing Cousins to a huge contract or trading for him on a one-year, $34.5 million deal would have to consider other options. Teams like the Jets, Broncos, Browns, Dolphins, Cardinals and Bills would have to move on to other options.

Cousins could also agree to the franchise tag, but then make it very difficult for another team to trade for him — either by making exorbitant extensions demands or flat-out saying he won’t play there beyond 2018. Teams aren’t going to give up a high draft pick for one year of Cousins.

Maybe it is just a bluff by the Redskins, but tagging Cousins could end up being one of the biggest stories of the NFL offseason.

Has a way better team in front of him. He also looked awful with a terrible St. Louis team. He is somewhere in the middle. I wouldn't give up any picks for any QB at this point.

I would add OG Andrew Norwell of the Car. Panthers. Not interested in Crowell. If at all possible I would do a in Division trade with Miami for the 6th pick if one of the QB's they are interested in for Laremy Tunsil, possibly Jarvis Landry and there #1. Am I asking for toooo much?

Giants will likely get Norwell with Gettlemen's ties to Norwell looks like a slam dunk... that being said that is where to rumors started that the Jets will make a run for Weston Richburg... it is being said that Norwell will replace Richburg...

Crowell is a little more physical style runner than Powell... This is someone we need... If not Crowell, then Jeremy Hill should be an option... This is why I wanted them to sign off the Raiders practice squad UNC RB Elijah Hood... we have too many dual slashers in the backfield but no bell cow power back... it is not just for short yardage but banging those d linemen and wearing them down so our slashers can skedaddle around them to the second level...

Today February 5 -- The waiver period begins. Basically, this is the waving of the green flag, signaling teams they can start cutting players. The Jets have a handful of veterans on the bubble, led by Muhammad Wilkerson and Matt Forte.

In Wilkerson's case, they don't have to do anything until March 15. If they don't cut him by then, his 2018 salary ($16.75 million) becomes fully guaranteed on the 16th -- and they won't let that happen. The team's intentions became clear near the end of the season, when they turned a one-game disciplinary benching into three games because they didn't want to risk having to pay a massive injury guarantee.

The Jets will incur a $9 million cap hit by releasing Wilkerson, but they will realize an $11 million savings. With Forte, the numbers are $1 million and $3 million, respectively.
