No wonder I couldn't tackle anyone when I played linebacker. I had guys like you blocking me.

What does that mean for the guys we have?are they better suited for this or does it not matter
I remember occasionally having to block schemes like that. Of course, offenses were running a lot of man schemes, and a lot of wing and I.
It means Becton is almost an ideal RT. Works well for Tippmann. AVT, as well. McGovern may be better suited in a zone scheme. Tomlinson, tough to say because I don't know if he'll be the old Niners Tomlinson or who we got last year. Not a great fit for Mitchell.
Long term, you can absolutely count on AVT and Tippmann here for a long time in this scheme. Still need a permanent LT, one guard. And depending on Becton, perhaps a RT.
think it like Becton last year outside his injuries is a big dude and needing to be athletic to move in space or slide protection is not e game.
Becton is a drive blocker someone who is a drive blocker. We seen it his rookie year where out in space he can run but he would drive block people ten twenty thirty yards down the field. This new scheme he should be better fit for but yet to show up. Maybe it is his weight reduction, dunno.
As for the rookie Tippmann this is cup of tea as at Wisconsin he ran a similar scheme.
AVT has run three different schemes two in college then one here with LaFleur. But his first one at USC is the one they are running this year. He is more athletic and is capable of converting speed to power while keeping his footwork underneath him making him able to play in different schemes.
Finding the right mix of 5 is key and guarantee the coaches and JD are searching for that group. We might not have the starting 5 right now but guarantee they have a rotational 7 or 8 heading into the season.
AVT should be the starting LG just because he can help out on the blind side.
We have no legit starting LT, well at least no one who is willing to take the job.
I think both Mitchell & Becton are role players this year. Unless they can convince Becton to play RG.
Tippmann should be starting and with AVT at LG they will be a dynamic duo. Because of MB's run blocking skillset he would be an ideal RG.

I had the same thought about possibly sliding Becton inside to RG, but I think he may be a prototype RT if his knee can hold up to playing it. The problem is moving him in just creates an even larger crater at OT.
I think Tomlinson is done here. Anything out of him is gravy. With Mitchell, he's not an ideal scheme fit and I'm not sure he is 100% comfortable after the blood clots. Turner is a fine depth guy, but cannot be relied upon for anything significant.
Two studs. You don't need five studs. But AVT and Mullet are studs. McGovern, while more a zone fit, can still be a solid enough starter, though I don't know how he would adjust to RG. Brown could be a viable starter, as well, at least short term. Two studs, two viable starters, and some question marks.
Far from ideal, but also not the massive crisis it is made out to be.
So like I said, we have a rod, but only 2 lineman to protect him. This is more discouraging then when we just suck all over

He's a team first guy. I just think he is a better fit short term at C, though Tippmann is the center of the future. As g said, Tippmann and AVT next to each other will be dynamic for a long time.

On some level. I mean, he has done it.
If he has both the mental and physical comfort to play RT, it will go a LONG way to solidifying the OL.
