I still think Flynn or Johnson could be brought back after week 1. I don't really care if they are here with Geno coming back there is no need to have 4 QB's.

Respectfully disagree. Keeping Flynn/Johnson would have been much more of a statement AGAINST Petty, than releasing them supported him.
Keeping 4 QBs is frowned upon because of the impact it has on the rest of your roster. You only do it if you "have to". If they didn't feel Petty could even go in and hand the ball off, that would be a pretty damning statement.
No one here is expecting Fitz to last 16 games. But to assume he'll get hurt in the first 6 quarters of action is pretty assinine too. Reports sound like Geno could be available before the bye, so they're not really taking that much of a risk having Petty #2 until Geno's ready.
If, as you imply, Petty is STILL #2 after Geno is back? Well, then I'm ready to jump on the "Petty in 2015" bandwagon. But for now I don't think releasing those QBs sends the message some of you are interpreting . . .
Ryan Fitzpatrick was healthy for years 2011-2013. He suffered a fractured leg last year. I guess this means we should be concerned about him being injury prone?
No more than anyone else.
Point being, it's a risk going with Fitz for four games with an extremely raw QB coming out of the spread offense in college backing him up. But worrying about Fitz getting injured is not due to some injury prone reputation. He's no more likely to get injured than Ben Roethlisbeger or Tom Brady. However if the worst case scenario does happen, then the Jets had better get used to playing an ultra-conservative offense behind Petty. Personally, I don't think he's ready to start letting it fly against starting defenses. Now THAT is risky, if ya ask me.

I don't care where is on the depth chart. I want QB's on the roster that will be here all season and know the offense. I just don't want him to be a distraction.

I stated in that post if I was correct about the injury history of Fitz. So I wasnt really sure about that. Now as far as to whether or not he will get injured, your right its all the same as Big Ben or Brady getting injured. We really don't know and the chances may be slim but what we do know is its a possibility. It could happen after the first snap or in week three but as long as Geno isnt ready to go then their banking on Petty to be ready to take over.
That is a big sign of endorsement on Petty. Now another poster posted they believe Geno will be ready by week #2 . Now if that is the case then this makes more sense and ofcourse the team would have that info they may not want to share. However; if Geno will actually be out 4 weeks then this is a huge risk. To have a rookie who you feel isnt ready be the #2 . Nah, they must feel confident Petty can do the job if needed or they would have kept at least one of those QBs.

Yup, that was a nightmare to watch. A pure embarrassment to the league, the team, the Jets fans and anyone else dumb enough to watch that entire game.

I assume they meant 2015, or that's a MAJOR slap in the kid's face . . .
It's not about rushing anyone, it's about saying it would be a "big leap of faith" to simply INCLUDE PETTY IN THEIR PLANS. Not guarantee him the starting job, not avoid drafting another QB option -- it's pretty much saying it would be a miracle if the kid was anywhere close to stepping on the field 12 months from now.
So far the kid has done everything asked of him, and I'll give him a chance to show what he can do before assuming the worst . . .
