Pick #103 - Bryce Petty - QB - Baylor

Flynn and Josh Johnson...that is no clearer sign that Geno will come back and slide into the #2 spot behind Fitz. Petty may be even less ready than Geno was as a rookie, so it's right for the Jets not to throw him in there right away. As for next season I see Woody Johnson making a splash at the QB spot, either by trading for a QB everyone won't agree on, or making a move up in the draft.

I thought it may have been but not this season. Flynn, Johnson won't prevent that from happening. And it seems the Jets and Petty supporters don't want to take a chance on him being exposed...do not want to lose that hope.

Sorry Sg, Genowe isn't going anywhere this season
You're probably right, green.

As long as he sits quietly at the end of the bench and isnt out there peeing away games, though, Jets fans will be pleased as PUNCH.

I'll take all bets tho, that he won't be a Jet in 2016

With the way Geno handled the money situation he doesn't deserve to be a Jet. So I get that and agree at this point but I'll see your bet and raise it with the fact your boy Fitz won't be the starter next year. No matter how good or bad he does this year. It will be Petty or a rookie they draft. Hell, Fitz may not even make it through this entire year as the starter.

Some veteran will be on the roster, I'm sure the Jets aren't counting on a 4th round pick to be there QB...history says they be stupid to believe that. Petty has a long way to even backup status and he showed that last night.

+1

Geno might not be here, but Petty has a long way to go.

Hoping they let Petty play the first half this week before mothballing him for the season. Didn't get to see much from him this week because we had a very nice lead and we played the clock. I get why they played conservative football but it is preseason and that really isn't the point of preseason football.

You didn't like his hand offs??? Stop, he wasn't allowed to do much at all. I do think the coaches are going to bury him on the depth chart for the year though (unless we are 0-9).

Petty took a blindside sack he didn't feel at all, that's a rookie error but his accuracy was off, missing wide open receivers..something mentioned in his scouting report. Playing next week would be just for reps as he can prove nothing in that game.

Every QB takes blindside sacks and you or I have no clue if the third string or 4th string wr's ran the correct route. You are overreacting. Winston looked like crap last night, should they cut him? He took 4 sacks.

I'm not overreacting we know Petty is getting shelved because he isn't ready. Just pointing out what I saw. No need to compare Winston to Petty because Winston being the #1 pick will get all the opportunities the 4th round Petty may never get.

And like many late round QB picks (Montana, Brady, Wilson etc) he might get his chance and turn out to be way better than many high first round picks (Russell, Mirer, Carr, Sanchez)

That's not many..and if/when he gets that chance he will right away have to be one of those very few. There are many, many more lower round pick that have never seen the field than the handful that's mentioned every time a QB is drafted in lower rounds.

I don't expect greatness from Petty but he has the potential for it. That's enough for me to sit patiently and see how he develops.

What else can you do but be patient and hopeful? I'm not asking for him to be cut.

One of the biggest adjustments a QB has to make from college to the pros, if not THEE BIGGEST, is adjusting to the speed of the game, including the limited amount of time you have to make a decision and get rid of the football, and that internal clock you develop the more reps you get and the more times defenses let you know; TIMES UP!!

To use an analogy, college is like racing go-carts at the amusement park compared to the NFL, which is like racing the Indy 500 or Formula 1 at warp speed.
