Powell is back

Not true, I was extremely complimentary of the Brandon Marshall trade and congratulated Mac on pulling off the NFL's version of the Lufthansa heist.

What I've been down on is the way free agency has gone thus far, because I know with 50+ million we all expected more, and I'm not gonna pretend that we didn't. The Marshall trade was a great start before free agency kicked off, sadly its been all downhill (so far) since then.

Sorry maybe it's just me but I have not read your posts as being optimistic.

I don't have a pessimistic agenda. I have a realist agenda. When the franchise does something right I'm accused of being an optimist because I have nothing but love for them, but when we're sitting on 40+ million in cap space and the best we can do is James Carpenter and re-signing a third string RB, I'm gonna call a spade a spade, and so far (like last year) this is a major disappointment. I went into this expecting so much more, and I know I'm not the only one.[/QUO

We are from different boards but iMO you have done nothing but post pessimistic posts.

But Nick....Carpenter>Colon and Powell is, at the very least, a solid depth signing. I would submit to you that Powell is potentially better than a 3rd and, if given a shot (something that Rex and MM never really did because of their CJ love) he can hold his own as a legit #2 to Ivory.

Thats okay, I'm not happy right now so I can't blame you for getting that impression. I'm just telling you that when things are going good, I've experienced plenty of the opposite, being accused of being way too optimistic. Like I said, I have no agenda, I just go by what I see and give my opinion. If I'm happy with what the organization is doing, then I'm effusive in my praise. If I'm unhappy with the direction, then I don't pull any punches and can easily be perceived as a pessimist. Depends on the situation. For example, I promise my posts would look a lot different if we signed Julius Thomas. If that happened I would be doing cartwheels.

You have a right to your opinions . We do not have to agree I was just stating how I felt after reading your posts. I hope we are both on the same page soon.

Just a thought, Turbo, but with all of this cap space that no-one seems to want, why didn't we just make a run at DeMarco Murray and let Ivory compliment him?

Then we would have had a one-two punch reminiscent of Freeman McNeil and Johnny Hector.

I think when healthy Ivory is a very good back who's bruising running style can grind down defenses.
Now he is not at Murray's level of athletic ability and pure speed but you can still win with an Ivory type back (see New England RB Blount / Vereen).

I agree we do have the dinero to sign an elite player whether it be RB, CB, or another position.
So I'm patiently waiting to see what the new Administration has up their sleeve regarding free-agency.
If we signed a Murray type RB I wouldn't object but we probably have more pressing needs at other positions (CB, O-line, pass rusher).

Glad to see Bilal back in green and white. He's an excellent all purpose back , who never gets bad press. Obviously , Bowles sees someone worth keeping! Bilal always reminded me of Curtis Martin .

The Jets must have added a different Bilal Powell if he reminds you of Curtis Martin. The only thing close to Curtis Martin that we had was Freeman McNeil.

And Freeman's back-up, Johnny Hector, who could have started for half the teams in the league as a franchise back, but that was before free agency, when the team that drafted you owned your rights for as long as they wanted to keep you, so he was destined to be a #2, but man was that SOB good.

That was a great second round pick and it gave us a deadly 1-2 punch.

Powell has better blitz pickup ability than Spiller does. also durability isnt a concern. I liked this signing

Yeah but he has no speed, no explosiveness, not a great cutback runner, and he's not very powerful either. He's just an okay back who is technically sound, but does nothing exceptional. IMO RB's like Powell are a dime-a-dozen.

Welcome! As for Powell, not sure what's there not to like. I feel like he runs hard and gets a good chunk of yardage every time he touches the ball. He's also a good pass catcher. He'll probably be our #3 next year again since we have shown interest on getting Helu. Good signing in my opinion and it should be non controversial.

I couldn't agree more!

per cimini, they got him for cheap. surprised he got so little and didn't seek more on the market. at this price, i don't think it precludes the jets from looking at other RBs, either in FA or the draft. maybe gurley is in play if he makes it to our 2nd round pick

The Jets locked up one of their free-agent priorities, but it was only a one-year, $2 million contract -- rather curious. Word has it that former Jets coach Rex Ryan wanted him badly in Buffalo, but that Bills' ownership didn't want to cut the popular Fred Jackson to make room for Powell. At any rate, it's a solid, short-term move for the Jets, who now face the prospect of having both backs -- Powell and Chris Ivory -- as unrestricted free agents in 2016.

Yep, certainly a guy to watch for among others. I believe RB will be addressed in this draft. Where's the Spiller buzz lately?
