It's an insult to everyone's intelligence. The Patriots' front office must think everyone else is stupid, and that they can throw out one crazy explanation after another, and people will buy it.
I expect next to hear them admit that they stuck a needle in the footballs and lowered the air pressure, but only to release evil spirits that had snuck into the footballs. They were doing a service to the league, and therefore should be rewarded.

I don't really know what to say that hasn't been said already. The Patriots must really think that most NFL fans are morons. To offer a rebuttal like this is not only absurd, it's an act of desperation. The fact is that their absurd and desperate efforts are only making their image worse.
I have never liked the Patriots, in fact I can't stand them and their smug attitude. Watching them lose gives me great pleasure. But watching this from a far gives me no pleasure whatsoever. The Patriots should be embarrassed. They should take their punishment and move on. The fact they are going to drag this out does nothing but hurt the game and the league. Own up to it, take your medicine and move on. To NFL fans everywhere, this kind of response insults our intelligence.
