Don't be so sure. Petty looked very uninspiring in camp last year. So unless he's progressed leaps and bounds and can handle back up duties if Fitz signs, Smith will be the back up and Petty will be odd man out...
I don't think you watched camp last year.... If Petty was so bad at camp there is no way the FO cuts Flynn and Josh Johnson to have Petty be the backup for the first 3 games of the season last year.... If he was so uninspiring he would have been put on the practice squad last year not the back up while Geno was out and would not have stayed on the roster all year....
Patullo, Gailey, Macc and Bowles all said he made hug strides in camp last year and look forward to seeing his progress this year.
Is it not common sense to read thru all the hyperbole and look at the fact that he was the backup to start the season behind Fitz who was coming off a broken leg himself and say the Jets FO and CS must have been impressed with him to have that kind of trust thru the first 3 games. Uninspiring is almost a laughable comment when you look at the situation.
Everyone in the media world said he needs 2-3 years to sit and learn before he can play in the NFL.
He comes from the spread offense he isn't NFL ready to take a snap from center and read a defense on his own.
Fans say he's a 4th rd pick he is a project.. You say he had an uninspiring camp.
so Let me repeat:
THE Jets Organization Deemed him good enough to be one hit away from playing and starting NFL games over 2 EXPERIENCED VETERANS.
Sorry but that action alone speaks volumes to me about his progress last year and what the organization thinks of Petty...
