Rob Ryan to join Buffalo Bills defensive staff

I'm not sure the ultimatum supposedly given by Pegula, that the Bills go to the playoffs, or both Ryan an Whaley will be fired is true.
Whaley was just given a multi year contract extension. Here's what Pegula had to say.
"We are pleased to announce a multi-year contract extension with our General Manager Doug Whaley," said Owner Terry Pegula. "Doug has demonstrated an excellent eye for talent and has been an asset to the organization on many levels. I look forward to working closely with Doug and Coach Ryan for many years to come."
your missing my point.. this has nothing to do with miami or NE..
we could still be playing right now if we had beaten ryan's bills just once!!
yuck it up if you want to now, because potentially going 0-4 to the guy woody fired won't be funny to him..
marathon not a sprint notwithstanding..
And if the Jets had lost to the Giants, or the Patriots, the Buffalo game would have meant nothing.
Basically, if you put it all on one game, or two games, then you are being a bit too selective. I would have preferred beating the Bills, but that's because they're a divisional opponent. You can't put the emotion of Rex into it.

I get what 13 is saying, and agree. It sure makes it less fun to rag a former coach who has beaten you twice, and one of the beat downs burst your play off bubble. All games are not created equal.

you got the wrong guy.. i've posted here more than a few times it's about winning winnable games not about beating ryan..
but i'll say this.. losing to ryan's bills (again) with our playoff destiny in our hands was crushing!! obviously..
bolwes' approach to games is fine in theory & it's a solid mantra..
but some games simply are more important than others.. hell, division games are mathematically more important..
tell you what.. if i'm bowles & i miss the playoffs again next season, i better not be 0-4 against the bills & they make the playoffs in '16..
try explaining to woody that all games are equally important then.. LOLz i bet i wouldn't want to have that conversation with my boss.. you??

What about the Pats? Top seed on the line, and they lose to the Dolphins who had phoned it in months before?
that's easy.. the jets lost week 17 & missed the playoffs..
the pats* lost week 17 & plummeted all the way to the 2nd seed in the AFC playoff picture.. oh the horror for the defending SB champions..
The Jets loss to Buffalo was basically their sixth straight must-win to make the playoffs. It seems a bit tough to say them going 5-1 in that stretch is awful.

you asked me about the jets & the pats* week 17 loses.. i said the jets were knocked out of the playoffs & the pats* went from the 1st seed in the AFC to the 2nd..

Getting back to your original post, I think the Jets have more bragging rights than the Bills. 10-6 trumps 8-8.
i disagree.. both teams missed the playoffs but the guy the jets fired had more to do with the jets missing the playoffs than anyone..
that said, it feels like we are bickering, not debating at this point, no?? i say let's agree to disagree..

I have no problem agreeing to disagree. To me, the record is what is important. You don't see it that way.
no, i believe making the playoffs is what's important, especially how wide open the AFC is right now..

Oh, they are going to have an outstanding defense, and be quite aggressive.
There also will be no discipline and no accountability, along with a dearth of offense.

Not with the teams being exactly the same as they were the year before..Sparano took a 1-15 Fin team to the playoffs year one 2008 and the Tuna didn't in 1997.. In both cases changes were made.. As far as Rex goes then he took a 9-7 Mangini team with a future HOF QB to 9-7 with a rookie QB and made the AFCCG.. It's easy to play this game..
Guys, I really don't understand all the hate for Rex here. He took us to back to back afccg. Noone else has done that. we normally get to 1 every decade at best. Yeah he stunk after that but so did every other Jet team after also. And the quality of players went downhill each year at no fault of Rex.
Unlike the dirtbag cheaterchick, Rex didn't leave because he wanted to. he was canned at least partially because of Idzik. Rex was actually dumb enough to want to stay with this cursed franchise his entire career. No one else will ever say that.
Now he's on the Bills and of course he wants to beat the team that canned him. i would too. He actually said when interviewed that he had a lot of friends on the Jets and he wanted them to succeed, just not at his expense.
He may be a big mouth dumby and he may or may not be a good coach, who knows but if we are going to focus our hatred on anyone lets collectively focus on someone who deserves it - cheaterchick and his band of cheaters
now if Rex does to us what cheaterchick has done to us for the next 15 years then we can all hate the big loudmouth too
and for the record, I hated losing to the Bills as much as anyone but I don't blame Rex. I blame the Jets or at least the Jets curse

I don't think there's hatred, necessarily. I think he is a very good defensive coach, and his message can be quite refreshing to a team coming off a stint with a disciplinarian. His extreme confidence, constant backing of his guys, and general good guy personality works for a while.
The problem comes with time. Just like some disciplinarians can burn out a team over time, so can a guy like Rex lead to problems. Mainly, those players who are not self-motivated figure out that Rex will always have their backs, so they get complacent, even lazy. As long as the team is winning, the message works. Once the team stops winning, his message falls on deaf ears.
I expected him to have at least 1 or 2 years before problems emerged. I was wrong.
