NBC studio analyst Rodney Harrison doesn't think much of the New York Jets' headline-making offseason. He believes they're doomed to a five-win or six-win season as long as Geno Smith is the quarterback.

Co-hosting NBC's "Under Center" radio show on Friday, Harrison unloaded on the Jets and their third-year quarterback. He might not be the most objective guy in the room, considering he played for the Patriots, but his comments are so strong, they're worth a mention.

“You can say whatever you want about Darrelle Revis -- and I do believe he’s the best cornerback in the league -- but Darrelle Revis has not thrown a touchdown pass," Harrison said. "He’s not your quarterback. Yes, he can shut down a No. 1 receiver, but they need a quarterback. The Jets are, all of a sudden, on a high, thinking they’re going to win a championship. You’re not going to win a championship -- you’re not even going to make the playoffs -- because you don’t have a quarterback.

"If you go into the season and you’re expecting Geno Smith to improve, it’s not going to happen," he added. "He might get a little better, but when times get tough, when adversity hits, guess what he’s going to do? He’s going to fold just like the last couple years. I don’t believe in Geno Smith. I think this is a huge mistake. Hopefully in this draft, they try to address this quarterback situation, because if they go into the season with Geno Smith, they might win five or six games.”

You get the impression he doesn't like the Jets?

Not surprisingly, Harrison supported the Patriots' decision not to re-sign Revis, saying, "Bill [Belichick], he’s not going to sell the farm for Darrelle Revis, because as good as Darrelle is, you know in a year or two maybe Darrelle is not going to be quite the same player he was this past season for the New England Patriots. So I believe that was the right move to make.”

If Harrison is talking about making the playoffs this season then getting a QB in the draft isn't going to make that happen. I'm just hoping for a full recovery from Fitz, I'll take his smarts, maturity, mand experience over Geno or any rookie this season.

Wow, more unbiased evaluation of the NY Jets by someone associated with the Patriots. Can't wait to see what former Giants think of our chances next.

Ok
So this is what some of us have been saying.
He's not slamming the Jets , it's on Geno
I wonder if it's " racially " motivated. :nothingtoadd:
Oh and by the way , he's dead on

I've never heard any ex-Patriot say anything good about the Jets, but bottom line is Harrison is Captain Obvious!!!! Everyone knows Geno is not an NFL QB

The Jets sucked last year, no CB's and according to Harrison, a terrible QB. Last year the "Super Bowl winning" Patriots beat the Jets twice by 3 points combined. If Revis was on the Jets, it might've ben a sweep for the Jets.
Here we have another off season where the rules are changed because of something the Patriots did the season before.
Eligible/ineligible numbers are now defined.
Brady rule, cannot hit a QB at or below the knees. IMO only gets enforced for Brady.
After the Patriots literally manhandled the Colts receivers in the playoffs, the league goes on a pass interference tirade.
I'm sure there will be new procedures for ball inflation/checking this season.
tuck rule, REALLY??
Albeit, all a season too late for the teams it affected the season before.

He may be "captain obvious" but it's amazing how many Jets fans, many of which are on this forum, would rather have us taking a RB or WR or OL in the first 3 rounds instead of drafting a QB.

We have a lot of people in denial that think we're going to be ok with what we have behind center.

I realize that there is no guarantee that drafting someone will pan out and he will become our elusive franchise guy. But I also realize that unless we do draft someone, we damn sure are guaranteed NOT to have a franchise guy. And until we start taking some risks and bringing new guys in, we will never have one.

So, ya, it's a bit maddening when thinking about the idea of going into next year with just Geno and Fitz and absolutely no one to get excited about for the future. We draft Petty and at least that is someone that can give us hope. I think the minimum return we would get on him would be far better than anything we will get with Geno.

Let's all remember that the Patriots cheat at football and have cheated to win all of their championships. Rodney Harrison was also suspended for personal cheating. We'll win one without cheating soon hopefully - I'm not saying Geno will do it, but wouldn't it be great for Geno to be able to tell Harrison that he was good enough to do it without...outside help?

I don't have a problem with Harrison's assessment of Geno. I have a problem with the idea that the Jets will only win 5-6 games next year after remaking the secondary around Revis, and adding Brandon Marshall to Eric Decker as our WR's.

Fitzpatrick is a capable QB who can help the Jets get into the playoffs with this roster. I have no doubt about that.

He comes off as bitter/jealous about Revis leaving, which I will never get because any Pats fanalyst should just have faith in what NE does

...Then again, maybe Harrison just caught the bad end of a PED cycle. Who knows.

No doubt really

Anyone with 20 20 vision living in the world of reality sees that Smith stinks and cannot be run out there again as the Jet QB. He got the previous GM .HC and OC fired, MacBowles and Gailey are too smart to let him do it to them

I am not sure where Rodney Harrison was going with any of his comments, the only clear points made ....were to trash the Jets.

So Harrison thinks that the Jets record will improve next year

Thanks Rodney!

By one or two games. I'd take that bet. I see the Jets at worst 7-9. At best, 10-6. Our defense is a lock to be top 5-6 in the league. And people are seriously underestimating Fitzpatrick. He can succeed with weapons. He's got Marshall, Decker, Amaro, and Kerley. That's nothing to sniff at.
