In '98 Anderson hadn't missed all year and then missed vs Falcons. We should have played the Flacons that year which we had already crushed.

LOL

Why do we do this? I hadn't thought about that in a long time. Like sticking a neddle iin my eye.......Thanks Tebow.

JUST KIDDING. .........YEP

It all depends on how you view the season. If you are only satisfied with a Super Bowl title, then all things equal, you are entering the season with a less than 5% chance of being satisfied, no matter which team you follow. Of course, all things are not equal, but my point is, theoretically, you have a 1/32 chance of being happy at the end of the year. I'll grant you that we are definitely overdue.

If you place it in context, though, you can look toward that ultimate goal and still enjoy accomplishments along the way. For example, some are describing the frustrations of 1998, but I remember the accomplishments, the division title, the bye, the home game. Same with beating the Packers at home to win the division in 2002. Or beating the Bengals in Rex's first season on the final night of the regular season. Or beating the Pats in the playoffs the next season.

I want that ultimate destination as much as anyone else. But I've also learned to enjoy the journey. And this season was a big step forward, not a disappointment. The final game was immensely disappointing, but the season as a whole was not.

Well said.

I used to get all mopey and moody after a small loss, and belligerent after a big one. Now I'm able to see the game for what it is, a 30 week horse race. Enjoy the ride when you can, give yourself 30 seconds to get really upset when they lose, then move on.

Give me a break MJ. Those teams are being labeled similarly. Did you see yesterday's telecast? Poor bengals. The media did not let them forget their past and just piled on.

But they still made the tournament Elias, the Jets are couch potatoes. That is a huge difference.

Got that Elias..

The 8 win Redskins that the Jets trounced and who got thrashed mercilessly by the wildcard Packers are Supermen while the 10 win Jets are couch potatoes.

Makes sense to me.

Bowles was stupid from the start. He should have chosen for the Jets to play in a weaker division, so they could have gotten in with a 10-6 record.

After all, in a world where the 8-8 Rex is great and the 10-6 Bowles sucks, one would also assume that the 9-7 Redskins and Texans are great, and the 10-6 Jets still suck.

I assume when the Patriots went 11-5 and missed the playoffs, they were awful that year, too, for missing the playoffs.

So I guess by that standard, the Jets don't ever have to make the playoffs. They're still leading from behind. Isn't that what democrats are all about? You've set yourself up for ultimate happiness, congratulations.

I don't see why anyone would have to bring their own political views into this.

We have a board for political talk, just so this sort of stuff doesn't pollute the main board.

Good post

Even if the Jets were to win the Super Bowl the warm fuzzy glow only lasts a month or so, then it's on to the angst of defending it the next season. I learned that from being a Rangers' fan, who are another a tortured franchise. They ended the curse in 1994, only to go on another 22 year painful trek. LOL

With the Jets it's only a 16 game season, I look at every game as an individual event. Really happy one week angry the next. LOL

When a season goes like this one, when we start out with joy, fall into the abyss, then just when it looks like this could be the year, BANG, the bottom falls out, the final loss is very painful..

In the end there were 10 weeks that it was a lot of fun, and 7 not so much. Takes a week to recover, then off to the hope of next year.

Doesn't really change my personal life one way or the other. I get emotional highs and lows, but in the end it's entertainment, and a level of excitement.

IMO this season was a success. The end really sucked, but it's off to 2016.

I've suffered with the Rangers, too. The drought isn't as bad as the whole 54 years, the curse, all that stuff, but 1994 seems like both yesterday and eons ago.

Realistically, by all mathematical counts, in the NFL, you should be able to expect a division title every four years or so, a Super Bowl appearance every 16, and the Lombardi Trophy every 32 years. That is if all things are equal.

All things are not equal. So in 49 years, you have teams with a plethora of titles, like the Steelers, Cowboys, 49ers, even the Giants. Other teams cheat the system, like the Pats. And you have teams with droughts worse than the Jets, like the Browns, Lions, etc. The Jets are definitely behind the curve, and are due, on all accounts. Not enough division titles, SB appearances, or Lombardi Trophies.

We're due.

The only problem with building a mathematical model to compute probability of winning a championship is the data for the model becomes contaminated with bad coaching, bad GM's and bad ownership. In other words, it's worthless in sports.

IMO the Jets now have one ingredient that might greatly influence championships. A good GM (I hope) That's what keeps teams like the Ravens in the mix year after year. Not so much this year, but Ozzie will rebuild quickly. One of the reasons the Browns are such a pitiful franchise is they let talent like Ozzie walk

Ultimate happiness would be a Super Bowl win, so no, I don't set myself up for ultimate happiness. What I set myself up for is a life where the outcome of a game (that is not a game of chance) doesn't really alter the course of my days or life. At its core, you have a 1/32 of a chance of bringing home the hardware. When your chances are that low you will be more disappointed than not. Setting yourself up to not be disappointed is considerably different than setting yourself up for ultimate happiness.

There's a reason we don't coach or play professional football. We're not good enough. We don't have the skills or bodies to even compete for a moment. To place your level of expectations on something you cannot, in anyway imaginable, effect the outcome of is a bit of a fool's game. You really have no leg to stand on at all so to mock those of us that simply understand that it's a fu@king game and enjoy it for what it is, shows even more the folly that is your way of thinking.

At least IMO

Why are you not proud of the Jets this season? Did you not feel like they improved? Yes, we are couch potatoes but we finished the season strong and exceeded most expectations.

The Bengals should cut both Burfict and Pacman. They were the reason for that epic meltdown. Both are a cancer for that team. Burfict is immensely talented, but a complete zero between the ears. Loved to see him run down the tunnel when he thought they wrapped up the victory. Oops! Fumble! Steeler ball!

The Vikings game? Ugh! The Seahawks are getting so much love right now around the league, and nobody's telling the truth: they got LUCKY that a good kicker shanked a chip shot. Seattle is lucky to be where they are.

How any Jets fan can't see that this ship is on the right course now is beyond me.
