... and Petty would have scored three TD's in the second half if Sudfeld didn't fumble away a 1st & Goal inside the 10.After watching Petty last night, I was sold. He looks like he's made the necessary leap from year one to this point. He's got some work to do on a few things, but I'm 100% behind him being a backup to Fitz if that's the call.
Geno was uninspiring. Terrible INT. I think he can be a backup somewhere, and wouldn't complain if he stayed on one more season here, but I also wouldn't object to moving on. Petty instilled that much confidence in me.

i like my chances of being on roster week 1 as much as smith's.....If Geno is the #2 or even on the roster week 1, then this coaching staff and front office may not be what I was hoping they were...SMART!!

Just finished watching the game..... So my quick thoughts... We are definitely letting Geno and Petty battling it out... the pass to run ratio, hell it didn't exist we threw the ball 90% of the time with Geno and Bryce.... With that said.. Geno looked like a rookie and Petty looked good.
Geno actually played as if he didn't care
Petty was 16-26 could have easily been 18-26 as 2 passes were perfect and dropped and may have actually should have been 19-26 as he threw a slant in the 4th qtr that I forgot which WR aligator armed it as he was about to get blasted.. But that happens.. He missed some open guys but overall he has shown the improvement that I believe keeps him on the roster and looking like he will be the #2 if things keep going as they are this camp
& petty has.....same here. Petty has improved and has shown some upside. Geno is more of the same. I know both are playing with less than stellar Oline but they have had chances to impress
& petty has.....
I haven't had a chance to watch the game yet, but from all accounts I have read Geno was pretty bad and Petty was impressive. I'm as big a Geno booster as there is here (as I'm sure you've noticed), but if Geno is not going to show progress and take his opportunities to impress, I'm perfectly content with letting Petty seize the #2 role. Petty has got all of the tangibles and intangibles to be a good QB, if he's already started to get it in year two, that is only good for the Jets.
The only thing at this point is evaluating Petty against 1's or 2's. Smoking third stringers must be taken in context. Although I must admit, I loved Petty's pocket awareness and strong arm. The play that really stuck out for me was the play where he avoided a viscous pass rush, and managed to roll left and hit Bostick for 8-10 yards. That was very impressive. He didn't fold under pressure. He made a play out of nothing.
Very encouraging.
