Over exaggerate much... Lol...

Hey he was turned down by the us army for throwing hand grenades in the wrong foxholes.

I just think it is funny how the press runs with it & we on here need to defend the pick a 1000 ways...for all we know Geno takes us to the SB & these guys are playing for the browns in three years:global (33):

One other media member must be mentioned: Gary Myers panned the pick. Why? On the basis that Penn State does not produce good quarterbacks. If a student of mine had ever used this kind of "logic" in an essay, he would have earned an "F." I'd like to give Gary Myers an "F" ... and a "U." I just can't stand this shit. If you don't liker a pick, fine, but do go to these lengths to knock it is disgraceful, even for Myers. What a jerk.
Another criticism I've seen several times is that the pick is "polarizing." TO WHOM?. NOT to his teammates who actually played with him and twice named him captain!!! So to whom exactly was the pick polarizing? To people who had downgraded Hackenberg in their mock drafts!!

You can't make this stuff up. I don't know what college Myers went to, but I guess that I can conclude that the school doesn't produce good columnists. Also, last year we shouldn't have played Fitz because Harvard doesn't produce good quarterbacks!!
outstanding post 12..

I don't want to interrupt your monologue, but there's actually been some pretty enlightening articles/videos posted here that have gone a long way toward changing my mind about the pick.

Doesn't mean he'll pan out, but I don't think anyone is blinding defending the good ol' green and white . . .

But not before 31 other GMs passed on him 3 times, INCLUDING said Hoodie.
You really didn't stop and think this one out, did ya?

So you regularly bash Brady as overrated, yet laud "Hoodie" as being some genius at evaluating QBs? You do know Hoodie has made Brady his starter for, what, about 15 years now?

So just watched Grudens QB Camp with Hackenberg.... Someone said it earlier but clearly Gruden was not happy with the coaching he got after his freshman year.... He has the mental and physical tools but now it will be all about re-learning the fundamentals of a QB's mechanics and grow into the NFL speed of the game. 2 big tasks.. But I'll be putting my trust in Mac and the coaching staff to get this kid up to speed in the proper time... Same as they will do with Petty and i'm excited for the 2017 QB battle.... Hopefully Fitz signs and we continue building a winning team now and for the future

I was surprised to see 26 of the predicted 32 starting QBs this upcoming season played at least a portion of their rookie season. (Now that includes Goff/Wentz as well as Sanchez/Smith, but it's still a higher proportion than I expected.)

Makes you wonder if "starting a kid too early ruins him" or if "starting an inadequate kid simply confirms he's inadequate a little quicker" (if that made any sense!)

If Hack needs time to heal old wounds, so be it. But it seems like he not only had to endure a horrid OL, but also instruction that went against his natural instinct (like footwork). We're not asking him to try something new, just to go back to what worked for him to begin with. . . .
chances are most if not all of us have worked under incompetent management.. based on the crash course i've taken on hackenberg, he was put in a position not to succeed under this franklin guy..

it appears mac believes that as well & we just might have gotten.. wait for it..... our guy??

Some people asked for Mac to get a QB and he has drafted two and now they are unhappy. Sometimes Jet fans are the worst.

I want this pick to work out, but don't think it will. PFF does an adjusted accuracy stat that considers throw always , drops, bad OL play, etc. Hackenberg still had horrible accuracy numbers. Some of the excuses being made for him, would never be made for Geno Smith. College is the easiest place for these prospects to inflate their numbers. All these guys enter the draft with ridiculous stats. Hackenberg is one of the rare top picks to have pedestrian stats. Hope I'm wrong

So are you implying Geno's coaches made him change what came naturally to him? Put him in a different system than he already excelled in, made him change his footwork, etc? That would be news to me.

To my knowledge there is no precedent set for a player like this -- someone who showed great potential but was then stripped of the ability to maximize that potential. I assure you PFF didn't take that into account, because they can't -- they simply put data into a computer and see what spits out.

Most college players don't succeed in the NFL because a) their game "doesn't translate well to the NFL", b) they don't put in the necessary effort to succeed or c) they simply aren't good enough. It could be argued that Hackenberg passes all three tests, just not over the duration of his college career. Only time will tell if those arguments hold water . . .

Converting two DT'S into OLinemen who never played the position in Hackenbergs sophomore season is a very solid and legit excuse why his development dropped from 2013.

Listened to Ross Tucker (ex-NFL OL and Sirius NFL talk show host) yesterday and this is what he had to say about Hackenberg. No.1, he lives in PA and saw a lot of PSU games and that their OL play the last two years was perhaps the worst he has ever seen and Hackenberg barely had a chance to succeed. No. 2, Hack would make some of the most incredible throws and then some of the worst.
I would like to think and I sincerely hope #s 1 and 2 are linked.

They are. You can't get sacked 103 times and probably hit hard a hundred more and not have your footwork, technique and everything you do as a QB affected. Its impossible. Only people who never played a contact sport think that type of physical abuse, to that degree, shouldn't have an accumulated effect on your technique and psychologically. Its not about toughness either. Just the fact that he kept getting up and competing speaks to his physical and mental toughness. But its impossible to get hit as often and as hard as this kid did, often times before he could even complete his drop back and set his feet, and not have it effect your overall game. This level of abuse is what ruined Ken O'Brien and Bert Jones (who would be in the HOF if the Colts had invested in his protection) and many others. Thats actually my biggest concern with Hackenberg, not fixing his mechanics. I just hope he's not already shell-shocked and seeing ghosts.

It nearly ruined Jim Plunkett too, but the Raiders were able to restore his confidence, give his body time to heal, and he bounced back and won them two SB's, after most teams thought he was physically and mentally shot from the years of abuse he took in NE. Thats what I'm hoping we can do with Christian Hackenberg.

Watching the ESPN tape with he and Gruden, it sounds as though he was coached to do things incorrectly e.g., in receiving the snap from the shotgun the proper foot placement is the left foot back and pointed into the ground; the tape showed in the last two years he had it reversed. When Gruden questioned why several times I believe he said he was told to do it that way. It may not sound like a big deal, but footwork is incredibly important to throwing the ball accurately, and when you screw with what a guy has done all of his QBing life you can expect inaccuracy.

Saw that Gruden camp. Hackenberg impresses me because he doesn't make excuses, nor blame the coaching staff that followed Bill O'Brien. That's maturity. Some have suggested that Hackenberg holds the ball too long, resulting in some of the sacks. That's a fair criticism, whether true or not. But there's no way you can find a rhythm as a QB, when you're getting knocked down that much. Hackenberg went through too drastic of a shakeup there to fairly judge his Sophomore and Junior seasons. Like Gruden said, you can see the natural talent this guy has: great size, big arm that can make all the throws, and he's a leader. He has to be re-taught all the fundamentals like footwork over again.

Interesting hearing Gruden say at the end that he'd be shocked if Hackenberg wasn't a first round pick.

What's best about this scenario is we'd be fixing an issue HE NEVER WANTED TO HAVE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

It's one thing to ask someone to change fundamentals they've had since pee-wees. But if the accolades about his freshman year have any validity at all you'd have to think he WANTS to return to that form and just needs some time to get back to doing it instinctually . . .
