Don't get me wrong though, pick was a MAJOR REACH at 2. He would have been there in the 3rd or 4th rounds.
Not a reach if he becomes a starter.

There are two sides to every argument. I'm sure Idzik and his scouts also conducted interviews, private workouts, and reviewed tons of tape. It doesn't make an evaluation infallible. Macc sees something in Hack that he loves and I'm rooting like hell he's right. Huge gamble though, not b/c he took Hack in the 2nd, but b/c he passed on Lynch in the 1st and then took Hack in the 2nd.
"The greatest loss from the NFL's decision to move the draft out of New York is that we didn't get to see the reaction of Jets fans to this year's second-round selection of quarterback Christian Hackenberg. Draft Twitter widely ridiculed the pick, and it's hard to argue; according to our QBASE projection system, Hackenberg has one of the 10 worst projections of any quarterback taken in Rounds 1-3 over the past two decades."

saw his article on the michigan board. leaving the politics out of it, let's just say i'm glad we didn't draft connor cook and have to deal with his father. the NY press would have eaten him (and the jets) alive.
for the record, i don't think this is the reason cook fell. or not solely the reason. but it may explain why there were plenty whispers of him being a giant d-bag and not liked by his teammates. perhaps the apple didn't fall far from the tree on this one...

I didn't want CH. However here's a little bit of my history:
I didn't want Sanchez, I wanted to stay put and draft Josh Freeman
I thought Cam Newton was going to be another Jamarcus Russell
I wanted to draft Freddie Mitchell
I liked the Gholston pick
I liked the Milliner pick
and there's so much more...
In other words, I don't know poop, however, I do I have faith in the new regime. Fingers crossed!

I think it is probably still a reach even if Hack becomes the next Tom Brady. Would you say the Pats would not have been reaching if they drafted Brady in the 2nd round?
Fine. Fans can say it's a reach. I will continue to trust the people that actually know something about football.
It's mostly not fans who are saying it. It's the experts.

well i'd think the "experts" are the ones who make decisions and evaluations for actual nfl teams, not the ones who write on the internet or talk on tv about actual nfl teams.
in any event, not sure which "experts" you are going by, but many had him in the range of being a 2nd round pick
kiper had him at #58 in his final big board

mcshay had him at #49

nfl.com's draft profile said round 2 or 3

cbs sports said round 2 or 3

walter football said round 1-3, and likely to go in round 2 (if not late 1)

now obviously there were others who hated him, including PFF which said he didn't have a draftable grade. but someone who many experts expected to go somewhere in rounds 2 or 3 being drafted towards the end of round 2 isn't really a reach.
ask yourself this RI.. NE grabbed a QB in the 3rd round right?? let's say hackenberg was still on the board & they picked him instead at that spot.. with the NE/o'brien connection, would the "experts" have blasted the pick or romanticized the hell out of it??I'm certainly not saying there are no experts who thought it was a great move. My seat of the pants impression though is that perhaps 90% of the experts thought it was a reach. Personally, I think it was a good pick. But based on the majority view of the experts, it was still a reach. Maybe this time though the Jets will finally get lucky. I hope so.

i know nothing about the kid they drafted.. i don't even remember his name being bounced around.. you??I'd say the Pats pick was more a reach than the Jets pick was.
