if you mean this thread?? OK i will & get back to you..

i will say this though.. the folks here that talk about the "hate" directed at smith rarely do anymore then gloss over or flat out pretend his well documented off field character issues all the way back to his college days don't make him a tough guy to root for, much less like..

I will never argue over his character , I don't know him. I'll let the coaches be the judge

so by that logic, you can't conform a educated opinion on a person unless you know them personally regardless of how much documented information you have on said person??

if that's how you see things who am i to tell you you're wrong..

that said, i don't feel misinformed about my personal feelings about smith, the man..

he seems to be a very unlikable person & the lack of support publicly shown from his teammates & coaching staff was/is damning..

Everyone on this site knows that I lack tact and any sort of eloquence in my posts. You sir, however, nailed it on the head. You made the same identical points I was attempting to make and you still managed to look likeable in the process.

I do not know how to post in the same manner. It's just not in my DNA.

So I refer to you in this argument. It's the litany of incidents/problems/attitude that just turn you off about this guy.

exactly maine..

& honestly i do find it frustrating that some of smith's defenders here act like the things you listed mean nothing or not true or "how do you know, you weren't there" stuff..

BTW we go way back in the JI days & i think you have mellowed a bit.. :)

Have I?

But trust me I meant what I posted. You are a far more engaging poster than I am. That's really the best strategy. When you make your point and not anger anyone in the process. I am the exact opposite. Damned for sure. :)

Well, I hope you realize it's nothing personal? I just differ on our approach to Jets related things. It has nothing to do with me thinking... Well, this Elias guy cut me off in Waterboro the other day and now I am actively stalking him before I get my revenge? :)

But I can also honestly tell you it makes me laugh, the amount of homers you tend to get on a site like this? You must have known this going into such a venture, right?

The real problem is the Jets lack of talent at QB. There wouldn't be an issue if either Geno or Ryan became a very good QB. But they are both marginal at best, and therefore the questions and speculation just keeps coming.

It would be crazy for Bowles to switch the QB's right now. Ryan Fitzpatrick has played better than probably anyone expected. The Jets are firmly entrenched at 2nd place at 3-1, only one season removed from a 4-12 campaign.

So unless Fitz starts throwing 4 picks per game, we have our starter. Fitz is our starter short term. Bryce Patty is our long term. Geno Smith has no term. He'll likely get cut/traded this offseason, something I'm sure a lot of Jets fan would love to see.

thanks maine.. i've been posting on jets forums for over 10 years now & i guess i've mellowed a bit too.. LOLz some here my disagree..

i can be very sarcastic when properly motivated so i try to keep it in check..

that & understanding just because i may completely disagree with a post/poster doesn't mean i right..

that helps keep myself in check as well..

Yeah, that is the issue for our team. We may be slow and over sized at LB but we move then make up for it with a plethora of d-lineman that can rush the passer and d-backs that can cover. Plus our LBs hold their own for the most part. Our o-line has been solid, TE play has been mediocre but our WRs more then make up for it. Our RBs hold their own and Ivory is a monster. Now if only Ivory can stay healthy for a full season??? Our question mark is and always will be QB until we get that guy. Fitz has been a nice stop-gap and hopefully he last throughout this season. If so, the Jets can make some real noise this year, regular season and playoffs. Question is, what happens if Fitz starts to flop or gets hurt?

No one wants to see Geno on the field again but can he help us? If not him then is Petty ready to go at any point this season if needed? Fitz has been serviceable or more then serviceable really but he still is what he is and that is an average QB at best. With the weapons Fitz has around him this year, he can have a really good season if he plays within himself and within the numbers. Just take what the defense gives you and let the offensive weapons do the rest. Don't try anymore out your limits because that would only mean trouble. So there is no need to even consider starting Geno now because he isn't our future anyway, so what's the point? Petty is (HOPEFULLY) and Fitz is doing a fine job, so need in rocking the boat or trying to fix something that ain't broke!

I'm not so sure Geno is done here. He has some physical talent and with the QB position around the league so awful Jets may be inclined to keep him.

Geno wins training camp competitions, but loses in Pads when bullets begin to fly. Fitz loses when he is matched up physically to a younger player in a throwing competition but seems to win games. I know who I prefer.

It is certainly possible that Smith is back next season. It is extremely unlikely he has any trade value. He is still under a fairly cheap rookie contract.

Only reason I see the Jets outright cutting him, would be if Bowles thinks after his behavior in the IK incident, that his presence in the locker room is detrimental to team chemistry.

And I think that is a distinct possibility. It's probably well known within the Jets organization that the Jets players have no use for Geno. They probably hate Geno if given the opportunity to speak their minds.

I just hope and pray Fitz can be our leader and won't need to be replaced anytime soon. If that happens, Geno becomes expendable.

You could have had stopped at your 1st and last sentences, and there would be few if any arguments. However, adding that 'Jets players have no use for Geno' and 'probably hate Geno' is where you go off the tracks. I realize that you are sitting behind a keyboard, but how can you make comments like those with a straight face? I am sure there are those who don't like the guy as is the case in any locker room, but making blanket assumptions about something you have no first hand knowledge of is absurd.

what we do have knowledge of is smith's teammates didn't prevent their starting QB from getting rocked by a marginal player with anger management issues..

we also know smith has had almost no public support from his teammates or coaching staff to this day..

so yes, i also believe smith is not well liked in the jets locker room much less respected..

you may call that an assumption.. i call it reading between the lines..

Almost everything we write about on here is based on assumptions. This one seems to have a lot of evidence supporting it.

The lack of support, or even sympathy for Smith from the players is astonishing. All we're getting is "unfortunate incident, they both acted like children." I can't imagine any team in the league that lost their starting QB in this manner that the locker room wouldn't be out raged.

Whether Smith is back next year depends on how this year goes. Lets "assume" the best case scenario.

Fitz plays all year, and the Jets go to the playoffs.

Next year Fitz will have an opportunity to defend his starting role, and Smith and Petty will compete for #2 .

If another QB is taken early, Smith is out the door IMO

meh.. i say cut bait at years end..

much like sanchez, smith will never get the benefit of the doubt from this fan base ever again & sanchez was/is a likeable guy.. hell, playing QB in NY is tough enough with the fans support!! LOLz smith was booed at the green & white (or whatever it's called) scrimmage after all reports of having a strong training camp..

he's a failed experiment FL.. cut bait..
