There are ZERO teams out there that are going to value Fitz more than we do. One organization already got burned by throwing money at him after one good year. I don't think it's of any concern

It would have to be a team that was ready to win now (so CLE et al are out) but is missing a QB. A team that feels it can win but has an old and/or fragile starter (Dallas, etc.) might WANT him, but he's not going anywhere to be the backup. I don't think Houston would double dip, if it doesn't work out they'll look foolish, and they'll be run out of town. The only team that I can see there being an issue with is... Denver. If they can't get a deal done with Osweiler and don't have the tag because of Miller, Fitz could be a good fit there for a couple of 'win now' years, and that would have to be hard for him to pass up.I wouldn't be so sure of that. Fitzpatrick is one of only a few decent QB's available in FA. Unless you're in love with RG3, which is a big gamble based on his results the last few years. I believe there would be a handful of teams that would line up for Fitzpatrick.

FitzMagic for 2 years/$22M
$12M in 2016 fully guaranteed - $6M signing bonus protects the cap long-term & still gives Fitz some protection of at least a $3M backup slot in 2017.
$10M with some incentives for post-season play and/or honors in 2017.
There are some issues with contracts shorter than 3 years because the CBA states signing bonus money must be pro-rated over no less than 3 years and no more than 5 years - but that might only apply to contracts for longer than 2 years.
HYATT™ hasn't checked and is too lazy to go do so right now.
There are situations in which Fitz could leave, but I think they are in the "very unlikely" category.
If Macc lets Fitz sign elsewhere, the honeymoon will be over.
I hope he's renting
No thanks, pass. Bradford is the starter on a few teams; where else is Fitz a starter? Answer;no where.
Last year mac made a splash signing a bunch of one year deals. When you do that, you know you are going to have to redesign the next year. You can't rebuild a franchise and plan to win now. If you win now you sacrifice being in cap hell.Fitzpatrick would probably be starting in SF and Cleveland. And would definitely give a few other marginal starting QB's a decent competition for their jobs.
Throwing for almost 4,000 yards and 31 TD's is nothing to sniff at. He's been defined by the media, but his performance last season warrants a starting job somewhere.
I don't see how any Jets fan can honestly feel confident about next season minus Fitzpatrick. If you're hoping Petty takes a giant leap forward, you're taking a huge gamble. And wasting the small windows of players like Revis, Marshall, and Mangold.

I think mac builds for the future while keeping enough talent to keep competitive. However, in this league, you go nowhere without a qb, and mac has to sign the best qb for the team then go from there. Fitz gets a3 year deal, first year guaranteed at 13,second year guaranteed 7 worth 14 if healthy, and 14 on year 3 with no guarantees. Essentially a1 year deal with a6 mil cap hit to cut him next year. Worth it if petty is starting for 600,000 next year, when nfl qbs average 18 million per year.
Sprinkle in a signing bonus and you're golden.
This offense dominated when our running game was on. I think mac brings in a real deal rb.

Then we agree. I didn't suggest he's tearing it down. The second to the last sentence of your first paragraph is where I disagree. I believe Maccagnan is trying to rebuild with younger players, while still putting out a respectable, competitive team. He took a chance on Marshall and Fitzpatrick, and it paid off more than he ever could've imagined. He seems to look for bargain veterans to fill voids, while using the draft to build the foundation. It worked pretty well last year.
Taking this approach requires a little luck, but it's better than tearing down the entire team and starting from ground zero, IMO. It's a tough sell to players and fans to say "yes, we'll suck for three years, but just you wait until 2019!!" You're almost guaranteed to get very little interest from good free agents under that scenario.
if team fitzpatrick is planning on using the bradford debacle of a contract as a legitimate measuring stick, we are in trouble..Really what this all boils down to is, does Fitz want to get paid the big bucks or does he want to stick with a good thing? Stick with a team that PROBABLY (if everything goes right during the offseason) will make the playoffs? Does he want those things? Does he want to go to some place he's never been before? Does he want to possibly (albeit a very slim chance) get a ring before it is all said and done? These are the questions a 33 year old QB with a wife and kids needs to ask himself.
Personally, I do not believe, under any circumstances, that Fitz can win a SB.
With that said, he could be a member of the NYJ when they win? He could be our stopgap and Mac will continue to build weapons around him. Even if he gets benched in favor of someone like Bryce Petty or a new young stud QB prospect that Mac drafts, Fitz will have played a role in it. He could probably teach Bryce and whoever else how to get to the top of their game.
So there's the virtue in him staying in NY from an exclusive competitive standpoint. He can make a difference in NY. If he goes some place else for a few more dollars he'll need to find that chemistry that came so easily with Marshall and Decker all over again with new WR's, a new OC, more than likely a LESS talented defense backing him up.
So sure, he probably could get a little more money elsewhere, but is taking that money a WISE decision?
I think not. And hey, it's not like he's not going to get a big fat raise from the NYJ. He'll be a much wealthier man staying in NY than he was last season.

does/should bradford's deal make fitzpatrick more expensive for the jets to re-sign?? of course it does.. that's just the nature of the beast.. but just like before, a realistic deal can be worked out that is fair for both sides..
let's hope denver doesn't come a knockin'.....

Fact of physics, you can't make something out of nothing. There are 2 completely different strategies. Either we use our assets to fill holes and compete this year, or we invest in future depth and cap flexibility. The third option is floating in mediocrity and hoping to get lucky.
But if we are concerned about wasting a window for Revis and Marshall, then we will max out the cap when we are already handcuffed financially. That means in 3 years we are going to be in a bad position.
I think mac didn't come here to win 10 games for 2 years, then be adrift. I would imagine his goal is to set us up to be good for the next 10 years. If that's the focus, then overachieving one season doesn't mean the focus changes, does it? The major moves must make us better long term, the wheeling and dealing is to make us better this year.
Mac is not the hot shot type, he's an architect type.

Cimini just posted a story about Bradford. He and Fitz have the same exact agent, so the idea is that the Bradford deal did not shock Fitz and insiders still put Fitz in the 8-10 mark. We may not like it, but that is what he's worth. The negotiation will be on front loading, back loading, and guaranteed amounts. I'll take it.Good post, Mykcuz. I don't think we're that far off in opinion after all.
