I think Bowles either makes the playoffs next year or he's gone. That's just my opinion but we will see. The team would have to play really well under him in order to stay. I dont care really as long as we get our franchise QB!

I don't know, I watched the Jets all season and I saw a team that consistently competed hard and stayed with opponents who had far more talent on the field; a team that beat three of the playoff teams, and a team that was in a position during fourth quarters to potentially win every game except two (Denver and Raider blowouts). To me, all of that is a credit to the head coach, and I feel far better about Todd Bowles now than I did going into the season. And I thought the defense generally played well until getting worn down. I thought Jenkins and Lee showed great progress this year, which was very encouraging.

Looks Like Bates is the OC

I am ok with this... For a few reasons.. But mainly Bates has the potential to be a great OC..... But more importantly I don't think anyone will come to the Jets for a 1 year deal and risk being let go after a year if the team doesn't improve.... It's a win win in my book... Bates does great, Great.... Bates and the team don't improve the Jets will be an attractive spot in 2019 for all the young rising OC's and DC's

Just about to post this.

I like the continuity, but I have concerns that Bates didn't want the responsibility of being the play caller. I want someone who wants the job.

I guess you can look at Bates as continuity or the possibility the Haley is probably choosing the Browns over the Jets.

The choice between being a head coach or an offensive coordinator, .......................tough choice. The one positive I see is that the team likely won't have to learn a completely new system.

But that report was from Mheta who is now saying that the Jets want to promote Bates.

Great pick. They're promoting an assistant who did such a great job coaching those two young quarterbacks to run the entire offense.
Wait, what?

Not much you can do with either of those two QBs. Petty's failure was mental. He can't play at this level and Hack was over drafted and never more than a project.
I honestly think Bates was chosen more for his input into the playbook this season and his experience in play calling. He was just as instrumental in the design and development of the passing game as Morton according to reports.

Darnold is not worth the picks you suggest giving up for him. He is a project and is way over rated. 4 premium picks for a project with a roster full of holes makes no sense at all.

DeFillipo would be a great hire but has already interviewed for HC positions. He's not coming to the Jets on a demotion.

Mac can't solidify the o line very much in Free Agency as there are not many FA prospects available.

I completely understand, though to be frank, If Darnold, Rosen, Allen and even Baker Mayfield seem to entice Mac, there is no question he needs to move up. He knows as we all do that this may be his final chance to redeem himself on landing a franchise QB. Think of it, i'am more than sure there were countless of Philadelphia Eagle fans hating the fact that their organization traded so much for an unknown Carson Wentz from a division II school. Those same fans are all wearing his jersey.

In the immediate future it may seem horrible, especially if a fan doesn't like how a QB has performed in college. Its understandable to be upset when a team mortgages so much into a player. Though with that being stated, this is a position in which you, I and the rest of this board have been waiting to suplant Joe Namath as a QB we can be enamored with in taking us to the next level.

If Macagnan has his heart set on a top QB this April and he pulls the trigger, then i'am all for it. If he has the guts to place his job on the line for a move as such, then i'll place my subjective views to the side and see how it unravels.

DeFilippo is currently the front runner to land the Cardinals HC job , especially now that Munchak turned down a second interview.

This is why i am still not buying this whole "we're about to promote Bates to OC" just yet. I honestly feel Bowles/Mac are still holding out until next weekend to possibly sign DeFillipo to be their OC. There has to be a reason why its not official on Bates yet. Yes i know Adam Scheffter reported it but its still a rumor until its inked.

AZ job already filled. Therefore signing DeFillipo would in fact be an upgrade within his resume. If the guy can run the O well while grooming a young top pick at the helm, I would not be shocked if Bowles isn't doing a good job if a parallel scenario occurs like what had manifested in Tampa Bay with dumping Lovie Smith in favor of promoting Dirk Koetter as HC just to not lose him to another team with that same title promotion.

And looked how Koetter has turned out as a HC.

I could see Defilippo sliding into Bowles position if the team doesn't improve.
Since Bowles has complete say over the coaching staff, do you think he would factor that in as well in his decision?
