Scouting the Opponent: Baltimore Ravens

The Buzz
:
The Ravens have had an up-and-down start to their season. After opening 3-0, Baltimore has dropped three straight, their latest loss coming against the Giants at MetLife Stadium. Former Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg was was promoted to OC after Week 5 when Marc Trestman was relieved of his duties. Head coach John Harbaugh has been the leader of the Ravens since 2008 and has compiled an 80-51 record including one Super Bowl win in 2012.

Offense
The Staples: QB Joe Flacco has manned the offense since 2008, throwing for 29,911 yards, 167 TDs and 106 INT while completing 61.0% of his passes. This season his numbers are on par as he’s completed 62.0% of his passes and thrown for 1,589 yards, 5 TDs and 4 INT. Flacco is also a rushing threat in the red zone — he’s rushed for two touchdowns this year, one shy of his total from last season, but only averages 1.8 yards per rush.

Flacco’s go-to target is TE Dennis Pitta, who leads the team with 34 receptions and is thirdwith 295 receiving yards while averaging 8.7 yards per catch. The BYU product is still looking to score his first touchdown since 2013. The seventh-year veteran has dealt with a number of injuries, missing the entirety of the 2015 season and only playing in a combined seven games in 2013-2014.

Shakeup In The Backfield: RB Terrance West is the feature back in Baltimore after the release of Justin Forsett. The third-year player has started the past three games, rushing for 295 yards and three TDs. He’s also a receiving option out of the backfield with four catches for 36 yards vs. the Giants.

Defense
The Anchors: The Ravens enter week 7 with the No. 3 ranked defense. Led by Rush OLB Terrell Suggs and DT Timmy Jernigan, the defense is ranked No. 2 in the league against the run. The six-time Pro Bowler Suggs leads the team with five sacks and is tied for the team lead with Jernigan in QB hits and TFL with seven and six, respectively. However, Suggs reportedly sustained a torn biceps against the Giants and and his status for the Jets is unknown. Jernigan, a third-year player out of FSU, has amassed three sacks and two PDs this season as well.

[TWEET]785899547281256449[/TWEET]

Jack of All Trades: ILB C.J. Mosley does it all for the Ravens. The Alabama product has racked up 21 tackles, two TFL, one QB hit, 3 INTs and 4 PDs. He missed the first game of his three-year career last week game due to a hamstring injury he sustained while trying to score on an interception return. For his career he's totaled 279 tackles, 19 PDs and seven sacks.

Notable: Justin Tucker is one of the league’s premier kickers, making all 15 of his FG attempts, including three from over 50 yards.

With Fitz the Jets lose 24-6. With Geno the Jets still lose but the game might be interesting, 20-17. With Petty the Jets just might have won but he's still injured so I guess they have no choice. As long as that horrid fitzgarbage isn't playing I'm good.

I don't believe there's any way the Jets can win this game. I know that sounds very negative, but with how this season has gone thus far, why would anyone have optimism that the Jets can beat a .500 team when they are 1-5 and so dysfunctional all around?

What's even worse (if that's possible) is that Geno is starting. IMO, that gives the Jets even less of a chance at winning than Fitz does. I think Jets fans are going to have to see for themselves so they can ultimately believe - Fitz has always been and will always be a better QB than Geno. Not that that is saying much, but the Jets season will go even farther down the tubes with Geno starting.

Toilet Bowles needs to stop making every bad choice for this team. He is starting to resemble Rick Kotite he is such a horrible HC. Eventually, it may dawn on Todd Bowles that what he should have done was skip right over Geno Smith and gone straight to Bryce Petty.

As the season goes, the Jets are almost right where I thought they would be coming into this season. I figured they would go 0-7 before they won their first game at the Browns. In this case, the Jets are actually mildly better than what was apparent.

Real change is absolutely necessary with this team. This has gotten very old very quickly. Jets fans need something to look forward to. That starts when Mac opts to make a change at HC. How terrible do Jets fans feel that thought this team was a playoff team? I can only wonder, but I feel for them........

Dennis Byrd's Memory to Be Honored Sunday

Dennis Byrd's Memory to Be Honored Sunday

Jets' Inspirational D-Lineman Will Be Remembered in Video Tribute, at Coin Toss Before Kickoff

[fbv]1781060115508043[/fbv]

The untimely passing of inspirational former Jets defensive lineman Dennis Byrd last weekend hit the Green & White family and the NFL hard. The tributes poured in on ESPN during the Jets-Cardinals Monday night telecast and elsewhere and will continue at MetLife Stadium on Sunday as the team honors the memory of No. 90 before the Jets and the Baltimore Ravens kick off.

After the player introductions, a video tribute will be displayed on the stadium videoboards telling the story of Byrd's short four-year career and capturing his inspirational battle back from his paralyzing on-field injury in 1992. The video will be followed by a moment of silence prior to the National Anthem.

For the opening coin toss, members of Byrd's immediate family will serve as honorary captains and will walk with the Jets' gameday captains to the middle of the field.

Also joining the Byrd family for the coin toss and the Jets family for the game will be three of Byrd's closest teammates, Scott Mersereau, Paul Frase and Marvin Washington. And as they did for the game against the Cards, the Jets will wear a No. 90 decal on their helmets.

Better draft pick then. This season is 100% over. Petty will start in 2-3 weeks max and then Geno might even be cut. Geno is just keep the seat warm and then will be discarded. Petty needs more reps after the injury.

Yeah, that's about the only silver lining to Geno starting. But neither Geno or Fitz should be starting in Sunday. The right person to start on Sunday is Bryce Petty.

I'm not sure how healthy Petty is right now. Maybe in 2 weeks.

Blasphemous I know, but I'm real curious to see how our defense looks without one of the top 3 DLmen. Assumes of course that Mo doesn't play. I think if we go back to the 3-4 as the base, at least for this game, we will see a better pass rush. If Mo is hurt, why play him anyway in what is shaping up to be another playoff-less season. Let McLendon and Simon rotate at the nose with Williams and Richarson at the DEs, with Jenkins subbing in as needed. I also want to see what Mauldin and Jenkins have at OLB in the 3-4. Both miscast as 4-3 OLBs. The remainder of the season is all about the future and developing as best as we can the younger guys in a system that is sustainable and suitable to the personnel that we have. The development for the future is just as much about the defense as it is about the ever important QB position. Hopefully Bowles is confident enough in his job security to seriously consider the above as a priority.

TB did mention but didn't clarify on what changes they made to the game plan on defensive side, so will be interesting to see what they came up with... Regardless of Mo playing hope they are going to continue with the aggressive style they tried against AZ on Monday...

Agree, did like the aggressive nature. Looked like he was calling the plays. Is that a recent change or haven't I been paying attention?

so what you are saying is Geno with throw to Brandon Marshall on the right side and the ball will end up in Charone Peake's hands on the left side of the field? because we all know OC Chan Gailey won't simply run the ball, he is all about the pass... :global (30):

The Jets can't beat playoff teams. Let's see if they can beat a very beatable Ravens team.

If the Jets lose this one at home, this season is 100% done.

The season has been lost for at least two weeks now. You seem to forget that even when the Jets play losing teams, they normally beat those teams, but sometimes inexplicably lose to a team that there is no excuse for losing to.

This team is a 5 or 6 win team at very best and recently they have looked so putrid it looks more like 4 wins or less............

I'am sure many as i have written off Geno.

But as soon as that game starts tomorrow afternoon, no matter who is the QB...i'am giving him 100% backing and support. Hopefully this team finds a spark on both sides of the ball and we can begin to win games. The next 4 games are very winnable if we can get some sort of confidence rolling our way.

5-5 by the break!!

Lets go Geno!
