When will Geno Smith be cut?

I honestly thought he would be cut already. Kind of surprised by them holding on to him. It must be because they haven't found his replacement yet. So a fun little timeline, WHEN do you think he gets cut. I'm also pretty sure everyone would enjoy such a thread. Besides, Johnnysd I do not know anyone that still supports him on this board. So give the thread your timeline. Is he traded or he outright cut from the team. Humor is always welcome also.

waiver period doesn't start until after the Super Bowl...

new calendar year starts March 15, majority of teams players roster bonuses kick in then...

As for what they will do with Geno, who has a roster bonus of $400 K and prorated bonus of $500 K, so expect the move done quickly rather be trade or simple waive...

I don't get the feeling he has any trade value. Who knows maybe coach likes his attitude in practice and he was learning. You aren't going to get a very good backup with our cap space.

If his contract is cheaper than a Hasselbeck type backup, he gets the advantage of being a known entity, younger, and he knows the offense already.

But if the staff can't stand him, maybe they land the haymaker before paying a bonus.

I doubt if he's cut, anyone else signs him.

everyone has a trade value regardless if the Jets trade him for a conditional pick in 2017 where the conditions are fair for us to receive that late compensation... but if we want to trade him somewhere taking the control out of his hands just to spite him the conditions could be unreachable, so basically even though there is a conditional pick we won't see it...

Actually one huge reason....

He stinks

no he is immature...

in the right system he could flourish, but he needs a QB guru to teach him how to read and recognize defenses and he could be a potentially good scrambling QB...

he prides himself as a pocket passer with running ability, unfortunately he hasn't developed to where he needs to be that this level of his young career...

people keep forgetting the type of offense he was in at college, dink and dunk short passes... letting the receivers catch and gain yards after the catch which made his numbers deceiving enter the NFL... he was drafted too early for his skill set and oddly enough he was taken after having a conniption fit that he was selected in the 1st round - depending if he was promised he would be or he thought he was worthy of it... signs or it was written on the wall then that he would be a distraction and sure enough last off season he got what was coming to him, maybe cruel but is the truth...

and

no way in form am I a Geno supporter... I had him a mid to late 3rd round selection after Ryan Nassib of Syracuse who I wanted the Jets to draft... knew it was a ticking time bomb when they drafted him...

So you think someone will want him? and if so, do you think he will be successful someday? just curious

I do think he has suitors, depending on who takes over in SF, even Cleveland they will be looking to sign a veteran or trade a late round pick or future conditional pick to acquire one...

Can he be successful depends can he get out of his own way and ego then yes... But what we know about him, he has a long way to go to do so...

As a jet fan most see the negative dont care or dont give a shit to realize he does have potential and when he did play at the top of his game he was quite effective... He just fell into the circumstance of being drafted by the last regime here giving him a harder ladder to climb with a new regime that has no ties to him...

This new regime made him the starter, before he stiffed a teammate and proved his douchery. I guarantee you, there was a large cheer that moment he was punched.

I read a recent article the other day. I think this season has humbled Geno. He is working harder than ever. Not saying he will improve on the field but it's a good sign that he didn't take this benching as a moment to sulk.

this regime named him the starter just because he was the starter prior to them coming here... demoting him when they arrived would of alienated him and they didn't want to fracture the locker room... were they happy that he got into an altercation that they were able to replace him, most definitely...

Todd Bowles is a team manager, from coaches to players and is the type of person you earn it, it is yours type person... So, even if Geno Smith didn't get knocked out because he was earning his job on the practice field not so much preseason games he would of been our starter...

Well you know what? I think that's great. Maybe the asshole will actually start to grow up? But IMO the damage here has already been done. It is my opinion that Geno would have been cut right after the incident with IK if they had known Fitz would have done as well as he did. At that time, the QB spot was rather unsteady/undecided. The best thing for everyone involved in this, players, coaches, Geno, fans, teammates, is to cut Geno and allow him to find another team. He got his chance with the Jets and he was terrible. Then, to top it all off, as if he wasn't already on shaky ground, he gets into an altercation with a teammate over a measly $600. I'm sorry but when something like that happens, people need to pay their penance. Geno has not yet paid his.

I also fully believe that cutting him would literally be therapeutic for the players. In fact, I work for the Dept. of Defense. It's common for me to go on the road for long periods while I work on projects. I was in San Diego in September of 2013 through about March of 2014. While I was out there I used to frequent a place called Henry's in downtown San Diego. It was a Jets bar and I could always go there and see the game, eat breakfast, etc.. There was a woman there that was the Aunt of Brian Winters. She told me a lot about the kid and how he was such a nice kid. She also told me that he liked everyone on the team except for one person and apparently it was common amongst his teammates. They all hated GENO SMITH. Player to player in a private conversation, they spoke endlessly about how incredibly annoying, arrogant, and just an overall punk Geno was. Mind you, that was his rookie year. So the players have known for a long time that they did not like him.

The more annoying a person is, the more obvious it is if/when he does a 180 and becomes a team player. I guarantee the team would embrace a humbled, focused GS, even if he never turns out to be anything.

I have no problem getting rid of Geno, but I'll let the FO make that decision. If they keep him, he's either showing them something or they're totally incompetent -- you can figure out which one I'd be rooting for . . .

As much as I dislike smith, he won't be out right cut. IMO the Jets will take a 6th for him, and be happy. As soon as some one comes up with a 6th or better he'll be gone. Probably shortly after the draft.

There is a scenario that he returns, but it's to painful to think about.

Like I posted though, you are probably right the team embracing a humbled Geno. But that's only assuming the CS feels he has talent yet unexplored. In Geno's case it is quite the opposite. He was the starter for almost two full seasons and he was beyond terrible. Statistically, the very worst QB in the NFL two years running. He even got a shot in the Raiders game when Fitz went down with torn ligaments in his thumb. And once again, his play was horrid.

So a proven humbled Geno might work for another team, but with the Jets he already got his chance. The only option with Geno is for him to go. JMO.
