So a couple of things to think of. As far as I’m concerned, this game was needed. We played from Q2 on like hot garbage and we still only lost by 5 points (2 missed FG and the pick-6 callback thanks to JFM boneheadedness and we still win this game).
Zach showed flashes of what he can do, and he showed how quickly he can give away a game. The INTs weren’t bad, that were outright horrific! That being said, what happens next is the most important thing in his development. We cannot handcuff him, he has to learn from this. He learned today that continually trying to extend plays is a horrible idea. He also overran his coverage and bailed on the coverage too quickly at times.
The bootleg where Uzomah perfectly picked up his block and bought Zach tons of time, instead of staying behind the block and panning the field for an open man, Zach ran his ass all the way to the sideline (eliminating half of the field all by himself), then threw a stupid INT (if he stayed behind the block he could have thrown anywhere on the field, but from the sideline he only has that half of the field for a makeable throw).
Hopefully he figured out some of his limitations and issues today, gets back to work tomorrow and finds way to start limiting this issues. 2 of his 3 INTs were trying to extend plays, trying to do too much, and not knowing when to bail on the play and throw it away. He did some really stupid things, but he also made some really good throws.
Our ST looked like shit. Our Defense couldn’t get a stop on 3rd down, our offense gave the ball away 3 times! And we still lost by 5!
-Garret Wilson is a #1 Stud
-Mims played a helluva game and made a crazy catch on a ball that should have been caught but was misplaced a bit outside
-Conklin played a man’s game and was an animal out there!
We have some good, and some very bad

How we rebound from this, is what’s the most important. Time for the coaches to earn their keep
