Guys - Johnson couldn't fire Mac before the draft, that would have been a mess. Even if he was considering it, he had to wait. People get fired all the time. I'm not surprised by this, nor am I disappointed necessarily. If it was working out with Mac and Gase, then it wasn't. And Mac and Bowles didn't work either. So if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. I credit Mac for doing some good things, and he got us a franchise QB, which is huge. I think he did a decent job that didn't translate to wins on the field. So, time for a change. To me this is no big deal, it's not amateur hour or dysfunction. It's just time for a change. The key to any good organization is having a good leadership team that is on the same page about the strategy and direction of the company or in this case, the team. I'm sure Christopher Johnson recognized that.
Gase deserves to work with a GM that understands what he wants. Apparently, Mac didn't, so they moved on. I'm fine with it.
I would add that this adds a lot of pressure onto Gates to perform well. You can't make this kind of move without expecting results - the Jets need to make the playoffs either this year or next and contend for a Super Bowl in 2021.
I agree he should have been fired sooner but at this point I think they should have given him the year. why let him draft/hire players that Gase does not want (if true) this is pure crazy..
