I don't see how you could possibly say the OL is a weaker unit than QB . . .

OK QB is weaker..but has more potential..the OL is what it is..mediocre at best...and the point is..when the QB looks bad..it works hand in hand with the OL

It's three lousy days in June that mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Come September when the bullets fly for real, no one on the Jets (incuding management) will recollect his absence from "Mini-Camp".
Yet Devin will always remember the best day of his life.

I personally feel fathers always remember "THAT day" especially being there with the love of their life. That is truly the turning point of their life. Yet, unless its a dead beat dad.

Maybe just maybe..although it shouldn't be needed, maybe the birth of his child will motivate him to heights unseen !!

OL is indeed mediocre at best, but fortunately, with Mangold there, and with a slowing but still decent Ferguson at LT, it's also probably mediocre at worst.

Ham, With all due respect, i honestly think your really underestimating the birth of a child.

Three days my man that you can have back in the 20 -25 plus days of training camp, not to mention the rest of the season practice sessions. He can never have back the great Bond that all three of them share the moment life comes into this world.

He's a 2nd rounder, he aint getting cut. He can ill afford to miss three measly days. The birth of his child wont define him as a football player, but more so as a father figure who places family first, above all things...ALL THINGS.

PLUS in all honesty..there are certain times in management where you have to treat everyone equally..if Eric Decker was in same position..no one would say anything..but in grand scheme of things and especially with that situation..there is nothing different that Decker or Smith's newborn..neither one is "more important" they both are. I actually think Bowles would let a late round or UDFA go...of course its at there own risk with the knowledge they have a lot of studying..potential extra waork to do

What makes you feel this way?

If we're going to look at Geno through green-colored glasses, why not the OL?

Carpenter CAN be a good find -- he just has to stay healthy.

Harrison might end up a gem -- he just has to care enough about the game.

Brick might end up having a better year if he doesn't have to compensate so much for weak guard play.

Oday might step up now that he's in his 3rd year.

Colon might commit less penalties now that he's part of a Porsche.

The entire unit may produce better under a scheme that (supposedly) gets rid of the ball quicker.

Personally I'll be SHOCKED if QB isn't our weakest link. If we get competent play there, I don't see any other unit holding us back . . .

Gates was also a return man -- not that it matters now. Owusu should be in the mix for the 5th or 6th WR spot and I would not necessarily count out Walter Powell just yet. I think he is the only guy on our roster who has experience as both a KR and PR. He did both in college and he returned kicks and punts last season. Owusu has only returned kicks, not punts. And Powell did open some eyes yesterday beating Revis for a TD.

Id love to keep both, but I get your point. Likely only 1. Can't wait to see them return kicks, punts, and see what they do with Petty.

As any good Qb will tell you, a QB with more time to pass will make an average QB look good and a good QB look great. QBs with time to throw are better QBs, that's a fact, regardless of how good they are.

However, QBs without an oline has to make quick throws, allowing defenses to cheat off deep routes, causing eventual turnovers...that's also fact. QBs can only hide bad oline so much, but olines can hide mediocre QB play.

I say this regardless of name of the QB. Colin Kapernick is the best example if you want to see a name, as the oline and run game gets worse and worse, you're quickly seeing he is an average QB. With a good oline and run game, he can be a good QB. I dont think people look at him as "great" in the mold of Brady, Rodgers, Brees, or old Manning...

In 7 on 7, Geno Smith throws a 50-yard strike to Chris Owusu for a TD. Great ball. Ryan Fitzpatrick couldn't make that throw. #nyj

Seth Walder ✔ @SethWalderNYDN
After that beautiful pass to Owusu, Geno has followed up with two overthrown deep balls.
