Not to rain on your parade but I'd seriously pump the breaks on this kid. He has almost the exact concerns around him as another 2nd round physical freak Stephen Hill? Far from a finished NFL product and just as much to prove. In fact if you look at the scouting reports in terms of strengths and weaknesses, you could switch their names they read so much alike, not to mention Hill had a 4.28 40 time much better than Smith and that didn't seem to help him in the NFL.
Our resident chowd troll wants us to pump the "breaks"

LS from Navy, huge reach in the second, no problem of course, FULL THROTTLE ahead on those

Oh, you want to compare stat lines to make your point without actually making a point...

One is a natural football player and one is a natural soccer player...

Smith would be the best WR on your roster today...lets see if you have anything to say as he runs past your secondary with his eyes closed.
You're not a troll because you arent putting him in the HOF, you're a troll because you come on here saying stupid things like Williams is the next Gholston and Smith is the next Hill when there is zero correlation except you hate the jets...and they are on the Jets...the rest of your points and post do not make sense...at all...and lack football IQ. I am blaming the lack of football IQ on being a troll...I'd go with it if I was you and see if the Pats fans want to deal with your shenanigans on their board. Stop trolling ours.

Oh I get it, I accidently criticized your binky, sorry, maybe he will run past the Pats secondary with his eyes closed, but then again I Hill couldn't do it and he had a heck of a lot better 40 time than Smith. For you accusing me of being a troll you sure throw out a lot of insults rather than actually talking about the topic at hand, but that's ok, you clearly have Smith as rookie of the year, so great for you.

Could be huge problems but I'm not putting them in the hall of fame just yet, unlike your buddy that can't stand anyone questioning the blind acceptance of what on the surface of it looks like a Stephen Hill clone.

Sure Smith had a little more production in college than Hill which is certainly in his favor, but you're kidding yourself if you think they are that much different at the point they both entered the NFL.

Hill's last season in college, 28 receptions, 820 yards 5 tds.

Smiths final season in college, 33 receptions, 931 yards 12 tds.

Sorry just because I'm not going to put the kid in the Hall of Fame doesn't make me a Troll, and just because you refuse to see the similarities between the two doesn't mean they don't exist. For god sake scouting reports for both of them call them "one trick ponies" in college. Now we know what happened to Hill, and I'm not saying that is what Smith will be but to ignore the very real similarities and concerns is flat out foolish.

Funny thing is, I really don't think you realize you're trolling.

Only quoting each player's final year is VERY misleading, because for Hill it was better than his previous two years COMBINED, whereas for Smith it was an accurate representation of what he'd done since he got there.

You know they come from different programs, you know they have different backgrounds, and you know they have different expectations coming in.

Yet they run similar 40s, so that's enough to assume same destinies?

Feel free to say Smith won't pan out -- that's entirely possible. But your connection to Hill is ignorant at best, and MUCH more likely trollish by nature . . .

That's just it, I never said that he wouldn't work out, never came close to that, what I said is that both Smith and Hill came into the NFL with very similar questions about there abilities and what they have to change to compete at an NFL level. Now that's a fact, and that's been well documented through countless scouting reports. Smith is a deep threat and has shown limitations in his game at the college level to do more than go routes. Again that's a fact, so sitting here and ignoring that it's a topic worthy of discussion is flat out stupid.

Just read Supermans posts, he's the one that started this, making claims of things I never said.

I have to give credit to the chowd troll for his efforts to twist and skew and bend Smiths stats at The Ohio State in order to post a comparison to Hill on a Jet message board.

This probably works with his pals, the frontrunning ignoramuses who post at Patsfans. com but not so well with the more erudite posters here, many of whom didn't flunk out of fifth grade of grammar school

PENN STATE!

Beware of the mods on this board that went to Virgin's Community College and played flag football that have smart things to say about us! ;)

I was unaware that you played football at PSU. Did you get drafted?

1. That doesn't really answer his question.

2. I thought you didn't have a problem with anyone but me. I thought I started all the trouble, and you were just a victim. So much for that argument.

So........... we're comparing our new draft pick to a wr who couldn't....... catch. Not sure I see the comparison. If Stephen Hill could actually track a football in the air and catch it, he'd still be here. devin Smith doesn't have that problem.

Also, Grogan, you keep reporting all these posts as if you're in third grade. You're on a NY Jets message board, and you come here to stir the pot. If you want to continue down that path, expect the reactions you're currently getting and stop trying to play the victim card. 55 refuted your posts with actual football information. He debunked your theory. Deal with it.

still don't see the words hall of fame. that's just a straw man argument

You know very well that it was an expression Hobson. Let me say this, many professional scouts, as well as off the street football fans have stated the similarities between Smith and Hill, both in physical skills as well as an overall NFL prospects. Are they exactly the same? No, I even stated I believe Smith is a more polished prospect an thus should have a better chance of making the transition to the NFL then Hill did. That said there are those here that are clearly viewing him as a sure fire prospect no matter what and just so I'm clear, I think that view point is stupid and short sighted. That's really all I have to say on the matter, yet you get guys like 55 and Sg3 that try and twist it around because 1. They can't stand the thought of another Stephen Hill "rightfully so, and 2. Believe a Patriot fan is attacking one of their binky's.
