The New England Patriots and New York Jets have competition for the services of Darrelle Revis.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Cleveland Browns are set to make a run at the All-Pro cornerback when he reaches the open market on Tuesday. Rapoport also named the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs as candidates to battle for the All-Pro cornerback.

The Patriots are not picking up Revis' $20 million option for 2015, but they continue to talk with the cover man about a new contract, per Rapoport. Revis will be free to speak with additional suitors come Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET

The Browns are linked to Revis through coach Mike Pettine, who worked with the cornerback for four seasons during their time together with Jets. Chiefs coordinator Bob Sutton also worked closely with Revis in the Big Apple.

It's the second consecutive year the Browns have chased Revis after making a run at the defender last offseason. Revis, of course, chose the Patriots, won a Super Bowl and remains likely to stay in New England or return home to Gotham. All the rest must be seen as a distant contenders for his services.

This will probably run Revis price way up. If the Jets are holding their breath on Revis in the FA market, it's a mistake

I read where the Vikings are showing interest in Culliver now that House was signed.

Revis has to like where this is heading.

So this is what its come too, bringing back the CB we kicked to the curb a year ago, because he spent all of 2013 getting torched up and down the field?

Ah, good times.

Source: Jets won't overspend on Darrelle Revis

Darelle Revis could be headed back to the New York Jets but the team isn't prepared to “break open the piggy bank for him,” said one source close to the situation.

Arguably the biggest name left on the free agent market, Revis is the lockdown cornerback that the Jets crave for new head coach Todd Bowles' blitz-heavy scheme. And it doesn't hurt that Revis, traded by the Jets in 2013, is a legend despite his frequent contract holdouts and general air of discontent. But while his parting from New York two years ago was less than harmonious via a trade to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Revis is “open and willing to consider a return to the Jets.”

“Darrelle would be open to the Jets. He never wanted to leave. And the team is planning accordingly,” the source said.

The source spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not allowed to comment publicly on contract talks.

“But while a reunion is possible, don't expect [the Jets] to overpay," the source said. "Revis has value on and off the field; he's a perfect fit for this defense. But he's 29 [years old] and while still an impact player, is he 'Revis Island'? He's still close to that, don't get me wrong. He will get paid like a top corner but this won't be a bidding war.

“They will be disciplined but they won't be trigger shy. He will be among the top paid defensive players in the league but [the Jets] won't break open the piggy back for him.”

As a lockdown corner, Revis would take the pressure off of safety Calvin Pryor, set to enter his second year in the league after some ups and downs a season ago. He would also be a good mentor for Dee Milliner, whose two years in the league have been anything but smooth since the Jets made him a first round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

“The interest is strong in Revis,” the source said of the Jets. “If he can be brought back at market value without overspending, they will do it.”

The source said that owner Woody Johnson will be “highly involved” with the recruiting of Revis back to the team. Last week, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported that Johnson has “been involved with serious internal discussions” with regards to bringing back Revis.

Stay objective, G. He had a hip injury in 2013 and looked much better last season. He's not the only piece we should be going after. We need 2 new CBs anyway. Or would you rather we keep Kyle Wilson around instead?

From @PSchrags and me: LB LaMarr Woodley expected to sign with the Cardinals. Put down the pitchforks here. He was released. It's allowed.

well bowles coached him and watched him play last year, so i'd tend to give the coach a little bit of the benefit of the doubt on that. cro was banged up in 2013, but responded well last year. i wouldn't overpay for him, especially in years, but if bowles signs off on it, who am i to disagree? he has the more recent report on cro than the 2013 injured version we saw

LOL

How much is Cro asking for? I was thinking 1 year deal for 4-5 million. If he's looking for 8-10 we'll be able to sign him when he sobers up in June

Fair enough, I don't love the move, but Bowles has the right to bring in one of his guys.

You can't consider it a "miss" on a player who returns to his own team before free agency starts especially when you're willing to pay more.

2) Philly's other miss: Devin McCourty. Source says Eagles were one of 3 teams willing to beat the $9.5M/year the safety got in New England.
