well then you might want to hope for the best.. maccagnan didn't pay fitzpatrick 12 million guaranteed this season to fight for the job with smith.....
That's what I will always do with Fitz. I hate that he is our best option.

for what it's worth, these guys seem pretty OK with it.....
I'm fine with it if and that's a big if he can get us to playoffs. Otherwise I will be just as fine letting walk next year.

Agree. It also allows for MM/TB to slowly and I might add correctly incorporate the young QBs into the mix at their own pace. Hopefully gone are the days where we are ruining potential key elements (young QBs) by putting them into the breach before they're ready. Petty and Hackenburg need another red-shirt year. If we have an emergency, then Geno can play.
Lets get it. This team is built to win...and win now. I couldnt care less that the schedule is "TOUGH". Hell every Jets fan knows it, once we start beating these "Tough" teams, the media will come out and be negative and say something like, the Jets are lucky to beat these teams because these other teams arent the same as last year.
"F" that! As a die hard Jets fan just like you guys i say... BRING IT!! Cause i know for a fact, these Jets will Bring the Fire to every game against these fools.

Okay, can we please keep this in perspective. Here is where Fitz's 31/15 season placed him statistically among QBs in the league (from an article on cbssports.com, url is below):
Fitzpatrick kept the starting job and, over the course of the year, accumulated an 88.0 passer rating, finishing as the 24th best passer in the league by that metric. It was a really strong season by Jet QBing standards, but nothing special objectively speaking. And to me, that is his ceiling.
I know this sentiment will not be popular, but I would not be surprised to see Geno Smith yet play an important and successful role for the Jets before this coming season is done. I don't believe that Fitzpatrick will be able to duplicate last year's success, although I obviously hope I am wrong.

I understand your interpretation of those stats, but td and int are the most important behind wins. The other stats show where you can improve, if you're on the field too long etc. But ints are momentum killers, and scoring is the whole point.

from a selfish perspective, I want my team to have a chance at a good season - check
I also want to develop the young QBs - I am convinced that throwing them prematurely into the fire is not the best way for them to develop - check
I would like them to have a veteran QB to learn from - preferably someone smart, who has succeeded more with football IQ than pure ability, someone who has played in a variety of systems, someone who knows well the current system - check and check
I would like to avoid a long term big $$ commitment to a QB who may not be our choice in the out years - check

glad the deal got done. i personally had no interest in seeing geno as our starting QB and wanted fitz back because (i) he gives us the best chance to win this year and (ii) will be able to tutor petty and hack. the money seems reasonable and obviously being a short-term deal means no cap consequences if we move on next year. the flip side of course is if he does as well or better than last year, we have to deal with this again next year (but i guess that's a "good" problem to have)

That also doesn't include the TD's he rushed for but also i don't see the fumbles he lost either.
