As much as I like Mo and all he contributes to the team, the failed regimes of Tannenbaum (i.e., the 2012 draft) and Idzik (everything he touched) leave no choice but to trade him for picks. There are just too many holes and not enough youth (or cap space) for sustainable success. A second and a fourth is a start. The draft then looks like....
1st: Reggie Ragland, ILB
You may get more bang for your buck with an OLB or OT but the drop-off at ILB after Ragland is huge. If he's there at 20, you take him and say goodbye to David Harris after this season and I think Macc is hoping he's there.
2nd: Kamalei Correa, OLB
Would make a nice bookend with Mauldin.
2nd: Taylor Decker, OT
Starts at RT for a year and saves Mac $14mm next season at LT.
3rd: Will Redmond, CB
Fills a need in the secondary and plays special teams. There's no future #1 CB on this roster and Redmond could be the guy.
4th: Kenny Lawler, WR
Good size wide-out who can make spectacular catches (and drops).
4th: Jonathan Williams, RB
Would be the first Razorback drafted if not for his injury. Gotta take a RB early in the draft.
5th: Graham Glasgow, C
Finally a professional backup center to eventually replace Thor!
I would love to see new young, fast blood at LB and CB with the rest of the talent on defense. This draft sets the team up to replace the legacy guys still on the team with cheaper youngsters. Of course Mac has to hit on virtually all of these picks or we start again. It potentially saves over $30mm on the 2017 cap hit by replacing only 4 starters. That leaves a lot of resources next year to find replacements for Brandon, Decker, Revis and Gilchrist. And a QB. If none of Idzik's rejects (Dozier, Winters, Qvale) become a viable RT or RG, those holes will be plugged next year as well.
