yeah, bowles is a bull spit artist with the media/fans..

why is anyone's guess.. i know i can't get my head around around it..

That's just Bowles playing his cards close to the vest. It's only common sense that there is a 2nd string QB competition going on. He's not going to admit that he is actively trying to coach Petty to the point where he's ready to take on the backup job. That would also be admitting he is trying to rid the team of Geno Smith. It wouldn't be the politically correct thing to say.

Bowles hasn't changed a thing he's said about smith from the beginning.

Before Fitz was signed when asked he say, "Geno Smith is the starting QB.............Right now"

When asked the other day about is there a QB competition Bowles said "Geno smith is the back up..............Right now"

i remember you pointed that out FL..

still, that seems intentionally misleading for the sake of it..

What has changed for sure is, ifthe Jets were hoping to slide Petty through waivers when he was practicing poorly, not a chance now.

They will either have to carry 4 QB's into opening day. (IMO still the most likely)

When Petty looked like he was dead man walking, and just came off that very bad 0-7 practice, he faced the media, who were asking him things like "do you think you'll be cut"? he maned up and said "that's out of my control, I'm just going to relax, do the Favre thing, and throw the ball upfield."

That's what he's done since, and it seems to be working. Think HC's notice when a player man's up, or punks out. You turn chicken in front of a bunch of reporters, half of whom are females, how are you going to act when a 320 pound guy is coming down on ya? Actually I think we've already seen how he acts.

One track mind. Did you notice that Geno also had a superb practice today? No, of course you didn't. You guys are kind of hilarious as you try to interpret everything as though it confirms your pre-conceived notions.

Think about it, if the Jets are really trying to make a determination as to whether or not to keep 4 QBs, of course they are going to give Petty a lot more reps. They already know that Geno can win NFL games and that he has greatly improved his grasp of the offense, his command of the huddle, his poise, and his communication. What they need to know is whether Petty has demonstrated enough progress to justify keeping four QBs. It is becoming increasingly clear that he has, and for me as for you, that is very exciting. I love the reports on his accuracy and his leadership. But it is clear that Geno has also been really sharp, and as Jet fans you should be excited that BOTH guys are looking good.
