Jets Looking to Move on From Geno

I dont agree with this being a bad thing for the Jets...it doesnt matter if someone does something wrong, if you care about them you still follow up. You may not agree with their behavior, but you want to make sure they are now in the right mindset and ready to move on. You dont think some players have checked in on Aaron Hernandez? You dont think Brandon Spikes checks in on Hernandez as a teammate at Florida and New England? Just because he checks on him doesnt mean he agrees with Hernandez shooting people...

Dumb subject/article.

IK Enemkpali: Many Jets players called to ‘check’ how I was doing

By Bart HubbuchAugust 15, 2015 | 3:12am

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Geno Smith nemesis IK Enemkpali wouldn’t answer questions about The Punch Heard ’Round the NFL on Friday night, but what little he did say was revealing nonetheless.

Fresh off his debut with Rex Ryan’s Bills, Enemkpali said a host of former Jets teammates — including the entire 2014 rookie class with which he came in — called to cheer him up after Enemkpali fractured Smith’s jaw with a punch Tuesday morning.

If you’re wondering how much backing Smith still has in the Jets’ locker room, the outpouring for the guy who sidelined the Gang Green quarterback for 6-to-10 weeks — and relative silence for Smith — appeared to speak volumes.

“They called to see how I’m doing and called to check on me,” Enemkpali said of his former Jets mates after the Bills’ 25-24 loss to the Panthers in the preseason opener for both teams at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
A source close to Enemkpali said one of the first Jets to call him after the shocking locker-room fracas Tuesday morning that got Enemkpali immediately released was linebacker Demario Davis, who also works out with him in the offseason.

Because Enemkpali still faces the possibility of criminal charges in Florham Park for the incident, the Bills would not allow him to answer questions about the incident with Smith that reportedly started over an unpaid $600 airplane ticket and taunting from the quarterback.

When asked if he planned to apologize to Smith — something that was noticeably absent from Enemkpali’s first statement as a Bill on Thursday — a Buffalo public relations staffer stepped in and waved him off.

“It was just a blessing [to get a second chance with the Bills],” Enemkpali said. “A true blessing.”

Ryan, who caused a stir by claiming Enempkali on waivers, didn’t waste any time getting him on the field. Despite not practicing with the Bills, he played much of the second and third quarter and finished with three tackles, a tackle for lost yardage, a quarterback hurry and an offsides penalty.

“Rex talked to me before the game, and it was kind of the same calls we were running in New York,” said Enemkpali, who played one season under Ryan with the Jets. “I was real familiar with it and just brushed up on it.”
After a roller coaster of a week that he called “a whirlwind for me,” Enemkpali was never more eager to get back on the field.

“It was good getting out there and just clearing my mind and just going out there and playing,” he said. “It felt good.”

Enemkpali didn’t know what kind of reception to expect from his new Buffalo teammates. What he got was overwhelming.

“Everybody was welcoming,” Enemkpali said. “Everybody talked to me and treated me like I’ve been here. Even on the sideline, they were talking to me and we were having fun. It wasn’t tough at all. The way everyone made me feel welcome, you can’t even ask for a better place to be at.”

Don't know if it's symbolic of anything, but every one has been wondering where the team leaders were during the altercation.

Demario Davis is one of the more vocal young leaders of the Jets. As the article points out Davis and IK were friends.

55 I can't remember to many of the Pats players saying they had called Hernandez to offer support once the facts of the case came out. if it happened I sure missed it. I saw articles saying certain team mates were appalled by it.

Well now that all the facts are coming out about Geno past and present, it's time for all Jet fans to unite in wishing him a fond good bye and good riddance

I know people are going to make this into something by reading between the lines and they may be right but if you take the story for what it is, it could just mean that IK has friends and was popular in the locker room.

I'm sure people have checked on Geno too. Just don't like how the Jets/Geno are handling this. You can't be too silent on an issue, then the press/people turn on you. Just like jetkwondo said this is only adding to the growing fire.

Yeah everybody likes Fitzpatrick now, when character trumps talent, but when the games start to count and the offense is limited due to his lack of arm strength, so DB's don't even have to worry about the deep out, basically they don't have to cover the whole field, therefore the offense is going to suck and the defense will be under immense pressure to pitch a perfect game every week, then we'll see how much they love Ryan Fitzpatrick.

This team doesn't need a gunslinger. The team needs a game manager. It needs someone who will be smart with the ball, and will help guide the team. The defense is phenomenal, and the running game is one of the best in the league.

I would argue that it's not the Jets and Geno who are fanning the flames, but the media (mostly NYJ beat guys) who are spinning this story into what they want. IK pulls his "aw shucks, people still care" quotes, and Geno gets portrayed as being the loner recluse who the Jets will move on from now. This story is being manipulated by the media. Again, speculation is being accepted as reality. And Geno's detractors are eating it all up.

Now that you bring it up I remember the idiot Pouncey brothers and the hat thing. Wouldn't be at all surprised if sometime down the road they join Hernandez as guests of the state.

The player reaction to Aaron Hernandez has been scarce, yet very mixed. Retired Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light came out and said he didn’t believe in what the tight end stood for. Former Patriots wide receiver Deion Branch called Hernandez a great friend and good person.

But a recent report by Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald suggests that Hernandez was a lone wolf in the Pats locker room.

Players say that Hernandez didn’t spend time away from Foxboro with teammates, but rather with old friends from his native Bristol, Conn.

“Out of 53 guys, surely there’s someone you could find to hang out with,” one player told Howe. “Instead, he chose to revert to his network from his hometown.”

Players had an idea of the crowd he hung out with, but never had a true perception of who he really was or what he was involved in. Many players seemed to be in the same situation as fans -- the Aaron Hernandez they knew wasn’t the real Aaron Hernandez.

“No one hung out with him,” said a player. “No one.”

Bullshit. "Game managers" never win shit. They just keep you mediocre and in the neverending cycle of losing and winning just enough to never fix the QB position. A winning team has a QB that makes plays. ALL of them. Trotting a retread loser like Fitz out there gives us NO chance this year. We likely have little chance with Geno too but at least he has upside and potential. Staying pat with Fitz and expecting anything other than the mediocre results he has always posted is just ridiculous. I would much rather they trade for Glennon, or even start Petty than just accept another crappy season under Fitznomagic.

Exactly. There is no story here. Before the incident there were reports about how the team was 100% behind Geno and that it was not even close. The media needs an angle and now that angle is that Geno is somehow at fault here.

If we have a game manager in 09 or 10 instead of turnover machine Sanchez, we win it all. Our team is built in that same exact fashion. Deadly defense. The offense just can't put them in a hole.

Thank you for that rational insight.

You'd rather have a guy with a big arm who turns it over all the time. Not me. I think a guy like healthy Chad Pennington would be perfect for this team.

But that's "bullshit," and game managers "never win shit."

Yes I agree. It's the media that's adding fire to this story. What I meant by my blame on Geno and The Jets was they are allowing it to happen without releasing any information or their side of the story. All we have now is IK's side of the story from Ryan Clark that the media ran with. When in a crisis, you're supposed to come out ahead of the story and be proactive not reactive.

Had Pennington stayed healthy a few more years, it could have happened with him on the 2010 team.

Agreed. Give me a game manager that knows how to win with the team than a guy that has erratic production and you do not know what you are going to get day in and out.

Yea, or if Favre decided to stay! He wasn't a game manager but he would have won us a ring that year behind Rex's defense.

I do not agree. Game managers do not win you games. And if they are not winning you games they are losing you games. It is a great way to stay mediocre,
