We should all acknowledge that the QB debate has changed significantly, post draft. We now know that Geno, Fitz and Petty are the guys we're going to have this year. There is no more speculation about Mariota or Winston. So it changes the discussion. We now have to choose between those players for this year. Personally, I don't like Geno at all, but given his age and position, and the fact that we chose not to draft a first round QB, it makes sense that the team should be looking at him as a potential option. As we've all discussed, if somehow, he works out, it's a long term solution and by far the best thing for the health and future of the Jets.
We all know what happened last year, and no one thinks that what we got out of the QB position last season was enough. Everyone is on the same page about that. We disagree about the causes of the poor play. Some people think that the deck was stacked against Geno in a number of ways, and that's why he didn't succeed (or at least, the removal of those obstacles gives him a better chance to succeed going forward), and some of us believe that he himself was the cause of many of our problems. But good coaches find a way to elevate mediocre QBs, and good QBs find a way to elevate mediocre coaches. Neither thing happened for us this year. Oh well.
At this point, no one is wrong about anything. There are too many factors in play to definitively say what "caused" our poor play last season. It was a combination of many things. Now, we're arguing over the future: what is GOING to happen? But no one can tell the future, it remains to be seen. So this argument is just going to continue indefinitely until some actual football happens. But nothing worthwhile is being said at this point.
