How do I explain Marty? Without spelling it out, lets trace his background:

OC of Packers in 95-96 - head coach at the time, Mike Holmgren. QB - Favre
OC of the 49ers in 97-00 - head coach at the time, Siefert, QB Steve Young
OC of the Eagles in 03-12 - head coach at the time, Andy Reid, QB McNabb and Vick

wonder how he had such a good track record before coming here...then he gets here and doesnt have a offensive HC or established QB and flops...wonder where else that happened; oh yeah, Detroit...

Whew -- for a second I thought it was because we had an incompetent QB.

Thankfully you've helped me see yet ANOTHER instance of where Geno is being unfairly criticized (by my count I believe the excuses have hit double digits)

But that's OK -- now I'm TOTALLY pumped for Geno's inevitable meteoric rise to stardom!! SB here we come!!!!!

Lol. Do you remember reading all those articles and how sharp he looked? Not just Geno but the offense. We heard that Marty was going to open the playbook and have his real playbook on display. Even the years before with Tebow where Rex didn't showcase any of the plays they had drawn up for Tebow.

I hate these fluff stories and I won't fall for it again.

I'm going to see their camp this year when I have free time and I'll make my own judgment lol.

Marty did open up his playbook. The problem is his playbook just isn't that good. The only time it has been good is when he was using Reid's playbook.

Just out of curiosity, were you saying this when we hired him?

All I remember was people saying how "we finally have a real OC" after getting rid of Schotty.

Unless things take a MAJOR turn for the better, people who are praising Gailey now will be ripping him in the future, and saying how "he wasn't all that good anyway" and "there's a reason he was unemployed for two years" . . .

No, but at least Chan has proven that he can make at least one guy look decent and he happens to be on our roster. I thought Marty would be better, but he proved Reid was the brains. Anyone that can turn Kordell Stewart into anything at all must know what he is doing.

That's how I feel. Is Geno the next Rodgers (also from a spread offense)? No. But if he can make Tyler Thigpen, Fitzpatrick, and Kordell a winner, well, that isn't exactly working with Favre, Young, and McNabb...

Its all you can do at this point. Its whats on the roster. I learned a long time ago that my opinion doesn't change the roster at all. I will cheer for whoever is playing QB. This CS deserves to pick who they feel will fit their system best. They have zero ties to Geno and if they feel he is best then thats who I will cheer for. If Geno ends up being horrible then he can just join a long list of garbage Jet QB's.

Well, the entire board was behind Gaily until yesterday...now its about 50%...kind of sad. I agree, you root for the jersey. I believed in Gaily before yesterday and I'll at least give him half a season to bash him. Hell, I gave Idzik 2 entire offseasons, I can give Gaily 8 games...man, this place is brutal sometimes.

Are you saying people were as upset about Sparano as they were Schotty? You've been a Jet fan for how long?

Sparano was a non-entity. When Marty came, people were DEFINITELY comparing him to Schotty.

But I'm learning you have a very warped sense of reality, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised . . .

I listened to Gailey and to Bowles yesterday

They announced Geno Smith was the starter for now, for OTAs, for mini camp and the beginning of TC

Congrats, Geno and you adoring fan club of 4 here at JetsFansUnited

hahahaha, didnt take long for this tune to change.

Within 24-hours this here poster said, this regime, Mac, Bowles, and Gaily know better than to play Geno. He will be cut before September.

Now, with his tail squarely between his legs, he calls out posters for his, as usual, inaccurate remarks...love it!

Save your halfwitted attacks for someone who cares

Yes, dimbulb, your beloved worst QB in the NFL has been annointed "starter for OTAS and start of TC"

Whoopee

All we need is jetman 83 to come back and this place will be just like a teen cat fight.

This season can't start soon enough.

We should all acknowledge that the QB debate has changed significantly, post draft. We now know that Geno, Fitz and Petty are the guys we're going to have this year. There is no more speculation about Mariota or Winston. So it changes the discussion. We now have to choose between those players for this year. Personally, I don't like Geno at all, but given his age and position, and the fact that we chose not to draft a first round QB, it makes sense that the team should be looking at him as a potential option. As we've all discussed, if somehow, he works out, it's a long term solution and by far the best thing for the health and future of the Jets.

We all know what happened last year, and no one thinks that what we got out of the QB position last season was enough. Everyone is on the same page about that. We disagree about the causes of the poor play. Some people think that the deck was stacked against Geno in a number of ways, and that's why he didn't succeed (or at least, the removal of those obstacles gives him a better chance to succeed going forward), and some of us believe that he himself was the cause of many of our problems. But good coaches find a way to elevate mediocre QBs, and good QBs find a way to elevate mediocre coaches. Neither thing happened for us this year. Oh well.

At this point, no one is wrong about anything. There are too many factors in play to definitively say what "caused" our poor play last season. It was a combination of many things. Now, we're arguing over the future: what is GOING to happen? But no one can tell the future, it remains to be seen. So this argument is just going to continue indefinitely until some actual football happens. But nothing worthwhile is being said at this point.

everyone is reading way to much into this you really think if geno throws 2 td's 10 int's during preseason he starts week 1?

he is named the starter for now because of two reasons

1. they don't know if fitzpatrick will be ready
2. if geno grasps gaileys offense as good as fitzpatrick then obv you play the younger more talented QB.

the key is will he pick up the offense he hasn't always shown he can do that, but then again he was handcuffed to one of the worst coaching staffs in the league.

While this may make sense, you must admit it's not what they said.

In your scenario, there should still be a competition to make sure Geno truly has grown into the starting role. By saying "there's no competition"(not just "for now") they're pretty much giving him a free pass into week 1.

Now, 2 TDs and 10 INTs could change the future of pretty much any QB, but as of now, it's not just Geno's job to lose -- it's Geno's job period . . .

coach's are always evaluating players in their minds and at practices without ever saying they are.

what they tell to the media and what they say to the players are not always the same

I listened to Gailey's presser twice and didn't hear that ringing cast in stone endorsement

He said Geno is the starting QB for NOW and we expect that to continue

Not quite a Geno's our guy no matter what statement IMHO.
