As with any of these deadline deals, it all depends on what you have to give up, but at least Gomez has another year under contract -- pretty sure Upton is Free Agent after this season.

Looks like they picked up right where they started before the West Coast trip.

Great starting pitching, bad defense, no timely hitting. Very little offense at all. Putting nor pressure on the pitcher or the defense.

Frustrating game to watch last night. The old fat man will be on the hill tonight. We might need a gem from him.

From mlbtraderumors.com:

If third baseman David Wright doesn’t look like himself when he comes back or if he doesn’t come back at all in 2015, the Mets will give some thoughts to trading him for a pair of hitters. One of those players, Cafardo writes, would likely be a shortstop. There’s currently a feeling in the organization that the Mets will make a move for a hitter in the coming days with pitcher Jonathan Niese being the outgoing asset.

Not sure what we could get for Wright, coming off of the injury shortened season. He will be 33 at the start of next season and this will be the 3rd season in the last 5 where he misses a significant portion of the season.

On the possibility of moving Niese, I would hope that means Matz will not be out too long. The way Colon is pitching, Niese will be hard to replace in the rotation.

Any word on when Montero may be back -- heard that he was throwing again earlier this month.

0 for 15 now. I cannot believe that I have spent my entire Sunday afternoon watching 12 innings of this pathetic offense. And maybe more.

As much as I hate giving up pitching, we must flip Niese for some sort of bat.... even if it's an aging Upton.

As much as I'd like to have Tulo, I would not move Matz, Thor, Harvey or DeGrom for him. Neise and the kid from Double A, Michael Fulmer. That's it....! That salary of his would be enough of a gamble as is.

I agree that we need to do something to find a bat, but the Matz injury really limits our options. I am pretty sure Upton is FA at the end of this season. As much as we need a bat - unless Matz will be back soon, I don't think Niese for Upton makes us a better team this year.

Without Niese, unless matz is healthy soon, we would then have to go Gee or Logan Verrett as our 5th starter. If we are going to move Niese, I would hope its for someone under contract at least through next year.

Will this frigging game ever end

Glad to see that you didn't stay away.

And I think this one might hit 20. Only way we win it is if Thor, deGrom or Harvey pinch hits and knocks in the winner in the 23rd.

Harvey is probably in DC

I'd rather have Thor or Hair batting than Dudu.

And we go to the 15th....

Card fans are supposed to be great savvy baseball fans

Somehow they missed the 14th inning stretch.

The only thing worse than watching 9 innings of this offense is watching them over the course of 15+ innings. But at this point in the game, its like watching a train wreck -- I know I will be horrified, but I just can't look away.

I'm a Yankee fan, but I see the Mets as being "this close" to having a dominant 5+ Years run. Their young starting pitching is the envy of baseball. Harvey, Syndergard, DeGrom and Matz, wholly chit, we could be looking at a run like the Braves had in the 90's. All the Mets need to do is add another bat or two and they are going to be lethal.

I agree with you about the future. But you have to understand my frame of mind right now. I have been sitting on the couch for the last 5 hours, watching 15 innings of baseball in which the Mets are 1-21 with runners in scoring position. I am not sure how they even scored a run today. Its been painful to watch.

No doubt their offense is putrid, that has to be a major point of emphasis in the off season, but if they can fix that and just become an average offensive team, WATCH OUT because this young pitching staff is reminiscent of what the Braves built in the 90's, and they can dominate the NL to the same degree, they just need some run support, then they will run through the NL like a hot knife through butter.

Sean Gilmartin leads off the 16th with his first major league hit. Has to be a good omen, right?

Golden, not to beat a dead horse, but when I look at the Mets starting pitching, and all of these guys (Harvey, Noah, DeGrom and Matz) are young, they are all coming into their prime at the same time, I see the makings of a DYNASTY.

Yes they have to add offense, but thats the easy part, you can always add offense if you're willing to spend in free agency, but this kind of young pitching staff is extremely rare, and it gives you a good chance to have a dynasty.

Inning over

21 Mets left on base

1 for 23 with RISP

Pathetic waste of terrific pitching

They have the nucleus of what could be something special. Which in one reason I don't want them to do anything crazy at the trade deadline. This team is more than one bat away. I just have no faith that Sandy Alderson will be able to build that offense. His two big acquisitions of position players have been Granderson, a one dimensional fly ball hitter who was a bad fit for Citi Field from day one. And then Cuddyer who is 35+ and coming off an injury plagued season. And its not like they have developed any solid major league htters in the last few years.

I am really excited about the young pitching staff, but I would be more excited if we had someone other than Alderson trying to rebuild the offense.
