Bullpen has been lights out the last two games -- after gacking up that game against SD. 2nd straight strong outing for Familia. Thor on the hill tomorrow with 1st place within our grasp.

Even though he didn't get a hit tonight, Cespedes presence in the lineup changed the 8th inning. Williams pitching around Cespedes to get to Duda -- as hot as he is with the go ahead run in scoring position. Nice to have some hitters that teams are afraid of.

You could see the confidence in the Mets players all night. Down 2 runs they kept have good at bats and solid contact. Duda putting the team on his back right now and Flores just missed a HR tonight.
Can't wait for tomorrow!

And to think Cespedes hasn't even found his groove yet. Maybe being around more Cubans for the next week will help.

Colon going tonight worries the heck out of me. Every game counts from here on out. Duda better bring his Citi field bat where he is scorching hot. Not so much on the road.

Duda's production has been largely absent on the road this season, however, and he's routinely struggled against Miami's Tom Koehler. Duda is batting .194 with three homers and nine RBI on the road compared to .296, 18 and 41 at home. He's homered once in his last 12 games at Miami -- none in the past seven.

He's also 3 for 22 (.136) with two doubles against Koehler. Only Duda's .087 average against Aaron Harang is worse for a pitcher he's faced at least 22 times.

Agree about Bartolo. The guy is done. Seems to have one good start out of every 4. Hopefully the bats can help him out tonight. With the upgrades to the lineup, we should be able to win games where we give up 4 or 5 runs. Tonight may be one of those games.

Niese, on the other hand, has been terrific over his last 6 or 7 starts. Only bad outing was on the night his wife was giving birth - when he probably should not have been out there in the first place. Was his only bad outing since the beginning of June. I love the top 4 of this rotation right now.

Mets have the easier schedule with only the Yankees and Pirates as top teams to play along with the Nats

The Nats have the Cardinals. Giants and Dodgers in their way along with the Mets

My forecast assuming rosters are not devastated by injuries

Steven Matz impressed over his first two starts in the majors before going down with a partial tear of his lat muscle, but he’s starting to ramp things up in preparation for his return.

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Matz threw today for the first time since landing on the disabled list. It wasn’t much, as he threw off flat ground at 60 feet, but it’s good news. The thought is that he’ll need at least two minor league rehab starts, so he’s unlikely to rejoin the Mets until September. Still, his presence would be valuable as the Mets attempt to manage the innings of their other young starters while also making a postseason push.

Matz won each of his first two starts in the majors while allowing two runs in 13 2/3 innings to go along with a 14/5 K/BB ratio. He also had three hits in six at-bats and drove in five runs.
