That's because the new coaching staff went and look at the film and decided that it wasn't all Geno's fault and two he is the most talented and ready QB currently healthy on the roster.

Good to know that's the bar we're setting to qualify as starting QB of the NY Jets . . .

The roster has a 2nd round QB, a 4th round QB and 3 undrafted guys i believe...what do you want?

Well, he still has a job (apparently a starting one), so yeah -- I'd say he's been given MORE than the benefit of the doubt . . .

He was as Kerley's TD was called back that beat the Packers but then didnt? Was he as Amaro dropped pass after pass, one of which ended a 4th quarter drive in Foxboro and ultimately the blocked FG that cost us the game?

I dont agree. The fans dont give him the benefit of the doubt. But the coaches, who are with him in the classroom and on the practice field do...you do have that part correct.

LOL -- tell yourself whatever you need to.

You can't provide one piece of statistical evidence to say Geno has "earned" any type of special consideration. All you have are the same tired excuses fans gave for Sanchez. (Fans had excuses for Idzik, too, but I guess you're the final arbiter of which excuses are acceptable and which aren't).

As I've said as nauseam, I'll gladly root for the kid from day one, but there's no way I'm going to BELIEVE in him until he gives me reason to do so . . .

I think this is most of the Geno haters point of view. I want Geno to be the starter for the same reasons that Superman gave but I do not blame anyone for not having faith in the kid. He has been ranked the worst QB in the last two years.

Good thing is this year we have Gailey who has shown to bring out the best out of his QBs and we have a stacked roster with an offense that will be suited for Genos skill set.

I'm not offended by the moniker, but I honestly don't consider myself a "Geno-hater". I'm a "Jet-lover" and if I think a player isn't in the team's best interests, I'm going to comment accordingly. Once he proves himself to be an asset to the team I'll accept him with open arms.

I'll NEVER put a specific player above the team (Revis, Mo, etc.) The day I do is likely the day I choose another team to root for . . .

Yea I'm the same way. A jet fan firs before any player or coach. Sorry to characterize you as one. It's not as black and white. I'm not a geno lover I just think for the benefit of the team (long term) we should give him another shot and hope he improves since he's young.

But the fact that we are built to win now makes this wait for geno to develop hard.

This is a healthy perspective.

Its funny people make excuses for Petty but then rub Geno's nose in it for the same mistake. They then hide behind words like "special considerations" and "earned" to defend their point and dont even realize they are contradicting themselves, and in their explanation of why, contradicting themselves again.

Hahahahaha, you gotta laugh at someone who says, "I have excuses for Petty, but Geno wasnt aloud to make the same mistake at the same point in his career." Then you say, why are you making excuses one way and not the other way?" And their only response is, "stop making excuses for Geno!"

hence, the QB discussions being a drag as posters talking out of both sides of their mouth.

You've had some wacky rationalizations recently, but how exactly am I supposed to look at Petty and Geno the same way, when Geno has two years of experience under his belt and Petty has two days?

With that logic, Geno is already doomed to failure because of all the similarities he has with good ol' #6 . . .

Two years of facing NFL defenses...Petty has yet to face a defense playing in the Big 12.

Which is why Geno is the KNOWN quantity (worst QB in NFL last two years) and Petty is the UNKNOWN quantity (future to be determined).

If Geno can turn it around, great -- but IMO he has more going against him than Petty does, simply because Petty hasn't been given a chance yet . . .

and we Jet fans love the unknown quantity..until it's known...sort of like many were when Clemens was picked and praised by Jaws.and recent history shows Petty future is pretty much determined...unless it's the Jets turn to land the next Tom Brady...I also don't believe Petty will be given much of a chance...certaintly not two years...low round picks don't get that kind of patience..

Petty is a developmental prospect. He has all the tools. With his rock solid brain, great mechanics, and coachability (though Gaily has already pointed out how cocky he is, which is strange for a QB that has only been here 4 practices and already thrown 3 picks and 2 pick 6s, but it is what it is; again, if Geno was cocky, the sky would be falling, but a rookie from a flashcard system...no problem).

I dont understand the fans trying to rush a young QB prospect. Even as a Petty supporter, it is in his and our best interest to let him sit a year. I guess I haven't seen a good post that explains why he should platy in 2015. Highlight films showing plays where he was told before the snap who to throw to doesn't help anyone make a determination if he's ready or not.

The greatest spread QB of all time sat on a bench for 2005, -06, and -07, 3 full seasons, before stepping on the field and showing what he had. Why not let Petty sit 1 year? Everyone but that 1 referenced above, has pretty much flopped in the NFL...and he had 3 years to learn. If you're trying to create the next Aaron Rodgers...why not follow a similar blue print rather than pronouncing him the next Aaron Rodgers but follow the Alex Smith blue print for developing him?

almost like the Alabama QB who came out recently and was way too cocky based on his college success. Petty has all the things that every other 4th rounder and lower had coming out...nothing more nothing less. The problem with a lower round QB sitting is when the team finds itself in need of QB they go looking in round 1.

so should we cut the guy?

not sure what you are getting at here in bashing petty. should we only pick QBs in the 1st round? should we have drafted a QB at 6? if so, who? do you think it's a waste of a pick to take a non-1st round QB? should the jets not even have drafted a QB and just go with geno, fitz and simms?

very few here are calling petty the savior. but it seems you are writing him off before he even enters his 1st training camp. yes, the odds aren't great that a 4th round pick turns into a franchise QB. maybe if we took petty in the 2nd instead of the 4th he would have a better chance to succeed...

Yes we should only pick QB's in round 1...that is exactly what I'm saying....unless you can give me a circumstance where drafting one later helps. I'm not holding out hope for the next Tom Brady anymore than I'm holding out hope to hit the powerball

you may not remember but we had this sort of discussion last year when Boyd was drafted and I called that a wasted pick as well...

Clemens was picked in round 2, and Geno has this year to prove himself, another 2nd rounder
