Why isn't this done yet... I hear the Vikes backup waterboy is very good at what he does... We need a starting waterboy....
between these QB injuries (romo, bridgewater) and the denver competition shaking out the way it did, i'm glad we were able to get fitz to sign before camp. imagine where the jets would be if it was geno smith being penciled in as the starter, as some impatient fans wanted as the fitz saga played out.
as to trade value, i'm not really sure why any GM would give up something for geno when you can get just as mediocre of a QB on the street. but if macc can get anything of value for him, all the power to him

Just looking over the Vikings depth chart, trying to see where they have excess that fits one of our needs for Geno?
I would ask them for OT Andre Smith or OT TJ Clemmings whom they drafted in the 4th RD last year.
Smith is a former TOP 10 Pick of the Bengals whom they signed to play RT as a free agent.
That makes Clemmings expendable. Clemmings was a projected late 1 or early 2 last year, but he slid due to a stress fracture in his foot, which was fine because he proceeded to start all 16 Games for them at RT as a rookie.
So I'll take either one, Clemmings or Smith, whichever one is NOT starting for them at RT this year, thus expendable.
If we have to throw in Qvale or Ijalana to give them back a backup OT, I have no problem with that.
Geno and Qvale or Ijalana (their choice) for Smith or Clemmings (their choice).

Nobody is trading for Geno!! There are plenty of shitty QB's on the street and all have a better attitude than Geno.

Listening to NFL radio today, the guys on Movin' the Chains contended that there are no decent QB's to be acquired for those team that are QB needy. They went through a list of 2nd string QB's and teams that had extra QB's. Geno Smith wasn't even on the list. In other words, they don't even consider Geno Smith an option.......
Listen to them everyday... Talked exhaustively yesterday about Geno to the Vikes... Actually talking about the Jets and Chiefs QB situation........ Schefter feels the Jets need to keep Geno as a veteran backup......And try to sneak Petty to the PS.... I don't see that happening... but hey what the hell do I know.
You know a lot more than that blockhead.
If we are dumb enough to cut Bryce Petty, I'll kiss Adam Schefter's ass in Macy's window if he clears waivers.
In a QB driven league with so many QB's going down, there's no chance in hell Petty goes un-claimed.

I listened to their show on the way home today and no mention of Geno as being an available QB or suitable option for a QB needy team.
But yes, they did discuss Geno yesterday at length. But what did they say??
They say Geno's problem is not his athleticism, it's his lack of leadership skills. Now I ask you if you're looking at a QB that has terrible numbers and people that have been former coaches say he's not a leader.......... Isn't that the curse of death for Geno? WHO would want him knowing that???
well, if we've learned anything about this regime, the media doesn't have any better of a read on what the jets are thinking than JFU does..
cutting petty to rent smith for a year is laughable at this point.....
the jets aren't giving petty away for the damn sake of it.. because that's what trying to sneak him past waivers would be..

Basically Pat Kirwan talked about the formula the Vikes have for winning and it's QB that doesn't turn over the ball... Also Bill Polian discusses this later on NFL radio on Late Hits.... Both excluded Sanchez, yet reports today were the Vikes were targeting Sanchez, and Geno because they are prone to the turnover more than the Vikes would like

The bottom line is can Mac get anything out of Geno? I honestly have to say I am not sure. There are some very QB needy teams, but most of those have to be looking and thinking Mac will cut Geno because they are not going to carry 4. So IMO, even getting a 7th for Geno is probably a stretch..........ANY team that wants him and is willing to wait will inevitably get him off waivers.......
Matt Barkley got a 6th rd pick last year... So I'm sure something can be had for Geno
This is what sticks out like a sore thumb. The two QB's that Mike Maccagnan drafted have those qualities. Teammates actually want to be around Bryce and Christian. When was the last time you saw a current Jet take a photo with Geno Smith?
Smith won't be playing because the Jets brass already know that he will not make the team (IMHO) hence he wont play tonight. The Jets organization "need their guys" the opportunity to develop and gain some game time experience, even if its the 4rth preseason game.
Geno sees the writing on the wall, he isn't stupid as many might suspect. The coaching staff gave him ever opportunity this off season to hold onto the back up role and i'am sure it was discussed:
"If Bryce plays better than you then he will go into the season as the back up."
All it took was that tremendous day of practice a couple of weeks ago and the Redskins game to quite honestly convince Todd and Mac that he's ready to take on that role.
