This is the season we find out re: Geno

I can respect several views on Geno Smith, both pro and con. What I cannot accept is the view that he's complete garbage and hasn't shown anything in two years with the exception of one game. To me, that's using revisionist history to bolster a specific stance on a player. I also refuse to be painted with a broad brush as a "Geno lover" or "Idzik apologist" or any other weak attempt at trying to define me, simply because I defend one of them from excessive criticism. Disagreeing with a poster gets you branded by him as the complete opposite extreme. It's a fallacy.

Sometimes, things aren't so black and white.
It seems if you want to give Geno a shot this year and you understanding that his first two years of failures weren't strictly on him, then your a Geno supporter. When all you really are is a person thats willing to look at the full picture, realize Geno has talent and believe he will or should be better under better circumstances. I'm assuming your like most of us who still think positively of Geno that this is his last year to prove himself and if he screws it up, then he won't live up to his potential and he will lose our support also. This garbage of Geno only having one good game against Miami last year is bogus and stupid as hell for anyone to think that way.

But it is what it is and why argue or debate it anymore? Geno has displayed better then that one game in both years but it pointless to continue with the back and forth. It all will get settled on the field this year. Geno has already been named the starter and I wished it didn't go down that way. I wanted him to be in a open competition with Fitz, Petty etc. so when he won straight up, there would have been nothing left to say as to who the starter should have been. Geno now has to show he is worthy of the starters role in OTA's, training camp, pre-season and in the regular season. If he can do that then we will be a playoff team. if he can't, then he will get benched and we move onto Fitz or Petty. Simple as that!

Geno is probably the most ready QB we have on this roster. He has played and sucked for two years. Lets look at the main reasons why. He was thrust into the starting role his rookie year, but was hurt for most of TC. He has had some of the worst offensive talent in the league for two years with a below average aging OL. Last year they brought in a decent WR who will be in his proper spot as a second option after Marshall. They drafted a fast WR to take the top of the defense. The OL will probably be marginally better. The biggest reason for Geno failing is the coaching staff was beyond awful from the top down. A young player needs a CS that can teach a QB decision making and hold him accountable when he doesn't make progress. The CS must also tailor the offense to the QB's strengths. And they must surround him with talent. The RB's are better this year. The OL might be better. The WR's are much better. More importantly the CS is better.

I personally don't care who the QB is. I just want a guy who can cut down on TO's and let this defense win games. We haven't had that in many years since Chad. If we had Chad with this defense, then we might when a SB this year. I'm trusting that Chan who has turned Kordell Stewart and Ryan Fitzpatrick into a QB. They had way less potential than Geno. This CS is so much better for a young QB. Hopefully Petty turns into something in a year or two, but I'm still rooting for Geno as long as he is starting QB of the Jets. I will say I will cringe every time he drops back until he proves to have a grasp of being a consistent starting QB.
I can definitely respect this post.

Some people prefer labels. Whatever. I can call the Geno detractors "the lynch mob" and other derogatory phrases, but why bother? I find it's better to acknowledge good points people make and stay away from categorizing people with inflammatory labels.

I think we've seen enough of Geno Smith to know what he is: a career backup type player (Jason Campbell type) that can flash but will be exposed if he sees too much playing time.
I can definitely respect this post

Personally, I've seen enough of Geno to last me a lifetime. I don't want him to start even one game.

As soon as he throws his first stupid interception, that feeling of dread will return: 'Oh, no..we STILL suck.'

It'll be like a nightmare you can't wake up from.

With all of the changes we've made, I want it to feel like a totally different endevour - I want to close the door on yesterday.

Please, God, don't make it feel like last year...

You are just too damn funny, LOL!!! I wonder if your really a human being or are you some computer chip that's installed on this site just to f%ck with people? If you are human, are you a grown mature man and are you 12 years old? You just won't let up and keep digging and digging and digging. I guess the fact that I entertain your foolishness makes me about 13 years old, so I guess I need to stop as well.

Seems to me that Bowles and Macc want to make absolutely sure that Geno does not really have what it takes: they don't want to shortchange the team if the kid is good but has been criminally mishandled up til now. So, they say the right things to encourage him and to let the fans know that they are trying to find the best choice.

And I'm sure the last thing they want is to let him go and have him land with another team who finds the key to his success with relative ease. That would look bad, real bad.

I say this as someone who would prefer to see him go, but I'm giving the coach and gm the benefit of the doubt going forward...

Please stop. It's annoying to read and childish. People on this board dosagree all the time but not at this level. I'm urging you guys to stop and act civil toward each other for the benefit of everyone on this board.

Agreed. if these posts were made by a fan of another team, the word troll would be getting thrown around. It's not hard to have a debate without resorting to childish tactics and insults.

+ 1000... this regime is not Rex and company. If you think about the way they have approached everything
then this is par for the course. In other words, doing their due diligence. None of us know what kind of lease he is on so let the games begin and see where the chips fall... My only caveat, is 'if" he falters, I hope that they do not wait to long to make a change to Fitz.

Discussed this in pod http://wp.me/p4ulgP-73L but Smith announcement is also vote of confidence in Fitzpatrick in a way because...

...they know he knows system, will continue to work/prepare and be ready to play immediately with Smith on a quick hook #Jets

Again, most professionals don't go into sleep/standby mode like Vick did starting last May, when he admittedly stopped working

Isn't it just as likely that the reason he was named starter was because Fitzpatrick may not be ready in time for camp? Why mess with Geno's fragile psyche if he is going to have to start one way or the other. Mperhaps he responds, if not, you have a few weeks extra to get Fitz ready, healthy and up to speed
