Great pick by the Dolphins. Jets get best defensive player in draft. Bad night for the Rex and the Bills.

There have been picks I haven't liked, either. But in this case, it's not a need, but damn, he was without a doubt a steal at #6 .

I am not questioning that he was a steal at #6 . He was. How are we going to use him in a 3-4. I can see if we go to a 4-3. We are loaded at the DL position. It would have been like taking a DB if it was the BPA. He will probably turn into another Sheldon Richardson. I hope. We will see.

And if the Jets don't take him, they get second-guessed for passing on the obvious BPA, a guy who could be a stud. If they pass and go based on need, passing up on a stud, they would get destroyed by some of the same fans who bash them now for picking BPA over need.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet · 2h 2 hours ago The #Jets pick is in. No trade. It’s Leonard Williams. Todd Bowles may smile just a bit.

I’ve never seen #Jets fans happy like that. So, that’s something.

#Jets GM Mike Maccagnan told me last month he hoped to sit at 6 and simply take the best player available. Can’t imagine he saw this coming.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- A few quick thoughts on the New York Jets' first-round draft pick:

The pick: Leonard Williams, DT, USC

My take: Wow, the Jets have a scary defensive line. Obviously, they didn't need a defensive lineman -- it's their strongest unit -- but they couldn't pass on Williams, who unexpectedly tumbled to the sixth pick. He's regarded by many teams as the No. 1 prospect in the draft. New general manager Mike Maccagnan preaches the best-player-available credo, and he backed it up by grabbing Williams instead of reaching for a need. Remarkably, the Jets have used their last seven first-round picks on defensive players, including four linemen -- Muhammad Wilkerson, Quinton Coples, Sheldon Richardson and Williams.

Overcrowded line: The obvious question is, what happens to Wilkerson? He could become a trade chip. Several teams expressed interest in him before the draft, and that interest figures to intensify, given the Jets' surplus of defensive linemen. Wilkerson is entering the final year of his contract and is looking to become one of the highest-paid linemen in the league. He's unhappy with the pace of negotiations and is sitting out the voluntary workouts. It would be a shame to trade arguably one of their top two players, but you can't pay everybody in a salary-cap era. Maccagnan said, "We're not actively trying to shop Muhammad," but that's just semantics. Know this: They're listening. Something has to give.

Lucky Jets: Williams was rated among the top three players on their draft board, according to Maccagnan. He wouldn't reveal the other two, but it's believed linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. and wide receiver Amari Cooper were the others. Despite intense speculation, the Jets had no interest in quarterback Marcus Mariota. How often do the Jets, with their sad drafting history, experience this kind of good fortune? Almost never. Williams (6-foot-5, 302 pounds) is a Pro Bowl-caliber talent. He's still not a finished product, but he has tremendous size and physical skill. In 39 games at USC, he recorded 21 sacks and 36.5 tackles for loss. He had arthroscopic shoulder surgery after the 2013 season, which reportedly concerned some teams. Said one NFC scout: "I'm not saying he's Reggie White, but this kid comes to play. He's 295-plus and he can move. He can be a great one." Coach Todd Bowles said he's not changing his plans; he'll play a 3-4 scheme, which means Wilkerson, Richardson, Williams and nose tackle Damon Harrison will be in a rotation -- if they keep 'em all.

We're already way past the point of getting a 1st RD Pick high enough to justify trading Wilkerson, that ships done sailed.
I am not saying it will or I want it to happen but he can still be moved for a 2016 1st round pick along with a latter round pick this year

2016 1st to get a qb?
If it happened it would have to be after the 2015 season, because we have to KNOW that we are getting a high enough 1 to help us get a blue-chip QB, even if we have to package it with our own 1, it can't be a late 1, it has to be closer to the TOP 10, if not in the TOP 10, because we're gonna be pretty good this year and we have a weak schedule.

If anyone still hasn't watched this, WATCH IT, this kid is a friggin' monster and he's only 20 Y.O., he's still a puppy.

Its scary to think how dominant this kid is going to be when his body fully matures.

I cannot believe the Raiders passed on this kid with the crap they have on the D-line. Thats why they are one of the most poorly run franchises in all of football, and I love Cooper, but you can't pass on this monster when your D-line is a joke.

Ham, did you see the Costello tweets I posted?
Yep, and those tweets are close to the truth. I don't know if he's Reggie White, thats a tall order, IMO White is arguably the greatest D-lineman ever, but the point he's trying to make is that this kid is a straight-up monster, ALREADY, at 20 Y.O., he's not even close to a finished product, he's gonna get bigger and stronger as his body naturally matures and as he takes advantage of NFL training. So when you look at what he is now, it is scary to think about what he might become.

I also would have liked White but let's face it WR is not a pressing need either (Marshall, Decker and Kurley). I just don't see how you argue with picking the best defensive or even the best player in the draft. Didn't the Giants pick defensive lineman during their Super bowl runs even though it wasn't a need. The Jets will have the best defensive line in football with a coach that will know how to exploit it. Right up Brady's mug. He hates pressure from the middle much more than the outside. SACK EXCHANGE II

Only eight players left for our pick in round two. looks who left!!!!!

Plenty of great stuff left in WR - Strong, Devin Smith, Beckham OL - Clemmings , Kann, JAckson RB - Johnson, Coleman, Abdullah... SAFETY - Collins

Rejoice..

Williams, Richardson, Snacks and Wilkerson. (Williams and Richardson on stunts - wow)

Pace Harris Coples

Ain't no one gonna run on this unit and btw we have Revis and Cro right behind us. Give it a try and good luck....
