Aaron Rodgers, Sam Darnold or a different QB?

It depends on Travis's fitness, which we don't know. If Travis is good to go then he is a better PROSPECT than any QB in the current draft. In which case why would you draft another QB and have the problem of hiding Travis and new guy from other teams looking to poach them?

OTOH if Travis is not fit after all this time then perhaps we have to cut bait, in which case we should draft the best guy we can.
Surely he will be healed by training camp.

I'm beginning to think, with the limited info on JT, that He is not going to be an option going forward. Without knowing JT's status it's hard to speculate on future moves. I included Him because HE is a personal favorite of mine and I begged JD to draft the guy.
Dart? He has all the skills but is raw imo. He needs to sit and learn for a bit. By no means should Dart be considered "Pro Ready" but I feel He could be an NFL QB.

I feel really bad for Sam Darnold. The Cinderella slippers have finally come off. He had everything he needed with the Vikings and when they needed him the most the past weeks, he turns back into what we always thought he was. With the Jets he had nothing and they crushed him but this was his bounce back opportunity. The chance for him to prove he’s that guy and get the bag and that’s dead now. He just proved tonight that he’s not capable of being a franchise QB. Damn Darnold, I was rooting for you but you came up severely short!

Sam is a backup QB in this league. He had his Nick Foles type run and it was fun while it lasted but it came to an end.
Maybe He can parlay this Season into a big payday from some QB needy team(Raiders?).
Maybe He can't.
I wish Him luck.
He survived being drafted by the Jets.
Not many can say that sentence.

He displayed the same traits that cost him his job as a Jet...................holding onto the ball when he should at least throw it away when he can't find an open receiver. Most of those 9 sacks could have easily been avoided that way. His brain apparently doesn't work during big games or works too slow to be successful. I watched this game because I had a hunch that he would self destruct in a high pressure game. I was hoping he would come through but not surprised when he didn't. Too bad. I like Sam and had high hopes for him but these last two games probably hurt his chances of getting a job as a starter anywhere in 2025.

I was one of Sam’s biggest supporters and absolutely estactic when they drafted him. He didn’t have the necessary talent around him to have truly been successful but his mishaps hurt him regardless. It’s exactly everything that you pointed out in your thread.

He could have shown signs with the Jets of being a quality QB at the least, if not a franchise QB by avoiding the mistakes he has made his entire career. This year with the Vikings was a prime example of that because he didn’t need to do any of it.

He had everything he needed there, excellent defense, strong oline, offensive top-notch talent everywhere and a coaching staff that is on point. What more could you ask for and he still couldn’t pull it off.

He won 14 games and took a Vikings team that was expected to win maybe 6-7 games and won 14. Played poorly in 2 games. OL was pitiful almost Jet like in last two games. It's not like he was the only reason. That "great" defense set the tone by letting the Rams drive down the field on the first drive and give momentum to a team that had a state to play for. There are two QB's that have failed to live up to playoff expectations that were drafted after him. I hope the kid continues to get better. He has improved a ton since the Jets ruined him. I will still root for him in the future.

You are absolutely right. He didn't fail alone. His "O" line didn't protect him very well and the defense was not up to snuff, but.......he could have negated much of the problem with better and certainly quicker decision making. If he could improve in this area he would be a sought after QB but he hasn't been able to shed this fault during his tenure with 3 different teams. The successful QBs get the ball out quickly. It's that simple. Actually Rogers is a prime example. When he gets the ball out quickly he has success and when he holds the ball he gets sacked. I believe that someone said that this seasons sacks made him the most sacked QB in the league. Often times it's failed pass protection but holding on to the ball way too long is on the QB.

You see, there you go with all the excuses for Darnold because you like and are rooting for the kid. But let it be some Jet that you don’t like and there’s no explanation or excuse. Robert Saleh (garbage), Joe Douglas (garbage), Zach Wilson (garbage), Geno Smith (garbage), Breece Hall (garbage), Sauce Gardner (garbage), Garrett Wilson (garbage) and the list continues and continues.

It’s so hypocritical and annoying to be honest. Extremely freaking annoying! Darnold is not the guy, let’s just all face that fact and whether he was ever a Jet or not, that makes no difference. He proved that this year with this loaded Vikings team. He was blatantly missing open playmakers. Getting sacked when he could have ran the ball or thrown it away. What was his excuse for that??? Other than he was seeing ghost again!

Any other real franchise QB would have won that game yesterday. Or at least made it competitive! Baker Mayfield who I’m still on the fence as to whether or not he’s a franchise guy would have taken that game to the wire. Maybe even have help win it!

Darnold is a game manager.....he has the tools to execute ideal conditions......but lacks the mental aptitude to read his progressions faster and elevate his play when conditions aren't ideal.

it's like the Yankees lineup......plenty of bad pitching to feast on during the regular season, but come postseason and better qualirty of opponents - the holes are exploited.
