What are your thoughts on him? I missed the game last night but I did read that he played with the third stringers. That's never a good sign. Looks like Enunwa has the TE position wrapped up. He was great yesterday.

Kinda curious about that as well, particularly as much positive stuff we were reading about his camp so far. Who played with the 1's not named Enunwa? Hopefully not Davis.

unless Amaro drops 30 pounds to convert to WR he is worthless to us, he may be a willing blocker but is no where close to be an able complete tight end...

Am I the only one who was encouraged by what he saw from Amaro Thursday night?

He looked trimmer and faster, twice he had a step on the defender deep and was slightly overthrown, otherwise those are explosion plays from the TE/H-Back position. Get the timing down and those plays will connect.

I think he's gonna have a breakout year.

I was hoping for him or Milliner to be the comeback player of camp, establishing something that merits his draft selection.

There are so many skill guys stepping up, it may make it tough on him. Can he be a true TE? Will Enunwa take his spot, or will Enunwa play more H-back and WR?

Tough read on him right now.

Amaro up the sideline has zero value. Make a clutch catch and take the hit. Otherwise we have better options at wr

He just lumbers around IMO. Not fluid.
Would we be saying that if Petty didn't overthrow him deep, twice?

I doubt it. If those passes connected, I think we're singing a different tune about Amaro today.

Sometimes the results are misleading. A little more accuracy on those passes and Amaro has a big night.

Or maybe Amaro is not athletic enough to get there.
He was athletic enough and fast enough to get a step on the defender down the field, twice.

Thats not easy. When was the last time you saw a Jets TE running away from defenders down the field like that?

Enunwa doesn't count, he's a WR by trade, even if he's a hybrid H-Back.

Thanks for putting the argument in perspective. Apples and oranges - Amaro and Enunwa.

That's the point of what I saw. Yes, ham is correct that Amaro did get open deep on two occasions. The one, IMO wasn't really an over throw. Thought Petty dropped the ball in very nicely between two defenders. The deep S was coming back toward Amaro, and Amaro seemed to pull up a bit, and didn't extend for the ball at all. He would have taken a big hit if he made the play. The ball was catchable. if he had made that play, we would be talking a lot different about him today. But he didn't. Getting open is half the battle, you also have to go after the ball.

Not going to judge him on that one play, it would have taken a lot of chops to extend for that ball, but isn't that what TE's do? He also didn't stand up very well in blocking. Neither did Zack Sudfeld for what it's worth.

All in all I was disappointed in his performance after the nice week of practice he had. It's only week one so certainly things can change, but Thursday night Amaro played as an H-back. IMO Enunwa is the clear #1 as an H-back right now.

Like I said it's only week 1, lets see what happens. he's going to have to get a bit tougher to take the starting job IMO

It's also important to come out of this game healthy. No need to risk decapitation. But when you're fighting for a job you'd expect it to show through.

i guess my question is, was it smart not to get himself walloped (preseason game) or should he have tried to impress a regime that didn't draft him by going balls to the wall in a glorified scrimmage??

I think you have to go balls to the wall. Coaches aren't happy because you made a business decision. They want to see effort from every player except the QB. Catching the ball is most important. Being able to get open and not make an effort is not going to help him. I don't care if he makes the team or not. He is not that important to this team.

not sure if it's as cut & dried as that..

if amaro goes for it there, yes, he would have impressed his employer..

but what if hurts himself badly on that play (again, in a preseason game) & needs to be placed on IR.. but instead, the jets decide to cut him & part ways..

how happy would you imagine amaro would be with that business decision??

I like Amaro. As much as people lump him in with Enunwa, my hope is that they play two different positions and get on the field together in some situations. Move them around, both sometimes taking the hback role, and sometimes their listed position. Hopefully Amaro splits reps at the te/hback hybrid position, while Enunwa is playing the slot/hback hybrid role. Along with Marshall and Decker you have 4 big fast receivers, along with either Forte and Powell, also both good receivers. If the line holds up, we should be good.

I think Amaro is in the dog house because enunwa shows him up with his tenacity and work ethic.
Odd thing is Amaro is probably better suited as a wr.
